Jack Martingale
"Oh yeah, life goes on, long after the thrill of living is gone, now walk on." -- John Mellencamp
Overview
Mask: Jack's solidly built, and a little under 5' 9" with short dark hair that's usually neatly coiffed. He's most often in some variety of black clothing, ranging from worn jeans and a faded tee to dress pants and a buttondown, depending on what sort of work he's taken that day. In his off time, he'll put on a little eyeliner and a drapey tank, or something of the sort. He's got a few tattoos, and minimal facial hair.
Mien: Someone sketched his outline in charcoal, and didn't bother staying in the lines for the rest of him. Like a hand-drawn animation before it's cleaned up, if the artist kept changing his mind and didn't have a good eraser to get rid of the mistakes.
Mantle: The clean smell of an oncoming spring rainstorm, undercut by the metallic tang of blood.
Personality: He can turn on the charm when he wants, when he needs to negotiate or make connections or smooth a situation over. Give him a few drinks and he warms even more, and if you're lucky he might even spill an industry secret or two. Privately he's more withdrawn, and watches what he says. In any case, he's much more comfortable listening to other people talk about themselves than he is with the attention on him.
Public History:
- Parents died in 2008: Got sent to live with his and Jane's Aunt Marshia and Uncle Joe
- Graduated in high school in 2013, joined the Army
- Back home by the end of 2014, and fell into theater work
- Disappeared for a couple weeks in the autumn of 2017, and when he came back he threw himself into his work. Still up for a party, but he's always got work in the morning.
- Joined the Spring Court in early 2018, waiting nearly the entire allotted time before choosing.
RP Hooks
- Another Openin', Another Show - He's got his fingers in a lot of theater pies, and knows the scene here. Need work? Need to get the attention of some producer or other? Wanna join the union? Jack knows a guy. He's also the tech guy for the Stardust Jazz Club on Friday and Saturday nights.
- Music of the Night - Jack's a night owl, even when he's not working. Find him at his local dive bar - or the gay bar a few blocks down. Or even just wandering the city at night. He's not looking for trouble, promise.
- It's Better With a Union Man - He's an up and coming member, and pretty damn vocal. Not afraid to show up to a strike in solidarity, or make a scene, or call you on your breach of contract.
Contacts
- Jane Martingale: Something about being around his sibling makes all Jack's composure disappear. Maybe it has to do with the secrets he's keeping from them. And the ones they're probably keeping from him. But they haven't talked, really talked, in years, so is it even worth telling them anything?
- The Other Jack: Once you get over that fact that he's got a hell of a lot more power than is maybe safe for one of the Lost to have, he's a decent guy. Gives good advice, seems to have his head on straight.
- Chelle: A willing ear and a shoulder to cry on, she doesn't need Jack to make her sound good. But he's her sound guy, it's his job.

Quotes
"This is an example quote. You can leave a quote here, showing how your character would speak of Jack behind his back." - Your Name Here
"If facebook hadn't made 'it's complicated' the sort of thing you say about friends with benefits or dating three people at the same time, that'd be how I'd describe what's going on. We're talking again, at least. He's given me some good advice. It just feels like I'm always the one opening myself up to him, lately, and that's not comfy." - Jane
