Henrietta is her proper name, but she goes by Hetty, Etta, Rhetta, or any other of half a dozen nicknames depending on how people met her. She grew up on Philadelphia as a kid until she was ten when her father died and her mother made her move rather abruptly. As a kid, she was homeschooled and mostly self-motivated. While she had access to a curriculum materials and her mom did her best, Henrietta was always precociously smart and it didn't take long to outstrip her mother's basic education level.
She didn't stop moving until escaped her paranoid mother's control and ran off to Cornell for college. Staying in one place and having a single set of friends that she didn't promptly abandon was a new and exciting experience, and she did exceptionally well in school. After graduation she came back to Philadelphia and got a job with the city as a network architect. She wanted to reconnect with the place she grew up, and while her mother was extremely opposed to the idea, here she is!
Hetty has automated much of her actual job, and (more or less) has access to a lot of the city's very interesting datasets, cameras, and sometimes confidential information. Not that she wants to abuse the trust, but it's interesting. She loves playing with large datasets, and running pattern analyses. It keeps her mind engaged, and the discrepancies she's run across sometimes merit a closer look...
The Jumper: The video clip is a wide angle view of an intersection, nothing out of the ordinary. Then, on a far corner of the feed, what appears to be a torso and legs, probably a man’s based on proportions, arcs over the side street. His face never appears on the screen, and it’s an almost blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment, as if the body is jumping or flying from side of the street to the other. There are other brief clips of the Jumper in action, leaping through the dark elsewhere in the city and always with a similar frustrating lack of detail, but then you can't expect too much from the traffic cameras.
Panopticon Algorithms - Have you done something a bit obviously supernatural when you thought no one was looking? Did you miss that traffic camera at the light, or security camera up on the telephone pole? Have you covered up magical shenanigans by manipulating digital footage? You may not have gotten away with it as cleanly as you thought! Hetty is a genius and tends to get bored easily. It doesn't help that she's automated large swathes of her day job, and spends a lot of her work hours digging into data sets that might be wiser to leave untouched.
Supernatural Safari - Hetty tends to jump into mysteries with both feet. She enjoys conspiracy theories for their entertainment value and debunks UFO sightings and 'magic' in her spare time, but she still believes that the Truth is Out There. Just because she's a firm believer that hearing hoofbeats indicates horses, but that doesn't mean that Zebras don't exist. If strange things happen, Hetty's likely to play the tourist and go see what's up.
Username Not Found - Hetty has an active online life covering a wide range of topics, sites, and usernames. She has more friends online than off to be honest. She's a programmer, computer engineer, electronics hobbyist, drone pilot, conspiracy theorist/debunker, cosplayer, and fanfic author. You may very well know her!
Etta has dark brown hair, hazel eyes, and olive skin. While she's got a few more curves than she'd prefer, it comes with the territory of spending a lot of time sitting at a computer and loving good food. Hetty is pretty average in looks over all, with the tendency to not pay too much attention to what she's wearing or what her hair is up to. She isn't a slob, but she's not a fashionista and only puts in the minimum effort required for any given social situation.
