Maddy's Wafflehouse

Log

Anneliese Kiel: Sometimes a girl just needs waffles, especially after what has been a long month. Which is why Annie's sitting in a booth at Maddy's, leaning against the side of it with her feet tucked underneath her, sipping at a glass of water as she waits for the waffles in question to arrive. Wearing a light green crop top and pair of jean cutoffs, because it's too damn hot for anything else.

Polly Romantic: Another 90 degree day in Philly. Sun and clouds and no hope of rain. Polly appears through the portal having switched her yellow hair out for lime green this time. She's wearing a sundress of a nearly matching color that has little watermelon slices on it rather like polka dots. She removes her sun hat and leaves it at the coat rack, then heads on into the diner, aiming for Annie's booth. "Makes me glad I'm not an ice elemental, right? Fuck me, this heat."

Anneliese Kiel: "I know, right?" Annie grins at Polly. "I like the new hair, by the way. Very bold choice." There's a gesture towards the other side of the booth, then, as if to confirm that the rainbow is welcome to join the mermaid.

Polly Romantic: Smooches first. Polly leans down and deposits one (1) smooch on Annie's cheek, then on her lips, and finally Polly hunkers down opposite Annie in the booth, setting her backpack down beside herself with a gusty sigh. Then she's fanning herself with a menu. Because it's damn hot. "Why are we not just inside in front of a fan blowing over ice with the air conditioner set to ice age?"

Anneliese Kiel: "Because we need to eat and do not want to have to cook for ourselves?" Annie offers, a wry note peeking through the slight detachment in her tone. "We should bug Maddy to install some, though. Or maybe just magic the place to always be at a comfortable temperature."

Polly Romantic: "And then everyone would argue about what a comfortable temperature is," Polly observes with a chuckle, "that would be a rather interesting exercise in subjective reality, I suppose. Anyway. I'm here. Might as well eat some waffles. How are you doing, by the way? Feeling alright? You were a touch off your game last we spoke."

Anneliese Kiel: Annie shrugs one shoulder. "More or less? I had a conversation with Ziv that helped, but I think the off-ness was severe enough to take more than one of those to heal fully."

Strum: Speaking of Ice Elementals...

The door to Maddy's swings upon, and a giant ducks through the portal from Philadelphia to avoid banging her horns on the frame. She rights herself at nearly 7' tall (easily higher if you include the height if her horns) and skulks over towards the bar. She's hangs up her apron behind the counter, and procures a styrofoam to-go cup of coffee for herself before laying her head on the bar with a groan.

Jeremiah Hamilton: Not long after Strum's arrival Jeremiah passed through the portal, dressed casually in jeans and a grey Stanford t-shirt. While he initially started to head towards the counter to see if the mistress of the house was in he paused upon spotting Polly, a look of pleasant surprise on his face. "Hey...fancy seeing you here."

Polly Romantic: "I can try to help, if you like? I don't usually like prying in other people's business, but. Well. I care about you, and I'd rather you feel your best, you know?" Polly perks up when Sturm arrives, then looks concerned all over again. "Do you want a cookie?" Polly unzips her backpack and pulls out a cookie tin, which she proceeds to pop open. "There's peanut butter, chocolate chip, shortbread, and snickerdoodles." Polly gives Annie and 'excuse me' smile and slips out of her booth, carrying the tin over Sturmwards. "Here. You'll thank me."

Petra Fichette: Petra's tiny 4'5" self could easily go unnoticed behind the Winter giant, but her mantle went before her like a Spring storm. It was the scent of fresh turned earth, budding flowers, and warm rain that melted away the last piles of snow. She bounded over to the gathering, and flashed a grin. "Hey guys!" she said excitedly.

Anneliese Kiel: "Help would be appreciated, honestly," Annie replies to Polly. "I am not too proud to turn it down, especially when it comes to something like this." Not least because it's both of their literal jobs. Sturm gets a glance and a slight wave, before she turns her attention to Jeremiah. And then Petra's bouncy arrival. "Hey yourself," she says, sounding... well, less detached than the last time Jeremiah saw her, but more than the last time Petra did.

Strum: Sturm grumbles, rolling her forehead along the cool countertop until she can look up at Polly with red, sunken eyes. There's a brief scowl somewhere along the likes of 'how dare you interrupt my migraine by caring about me' but her sweet tooth wins out in the end, and she reaches for a snickerdoodle.

"Thanks," she grumbles, cramming it into her mouth - stopping mid-bite to wince at Petra's animated arrival. "Hey, Petra."

Polly Romantic: "Mind if I touch you and help you with that headache?" Polly puts the lid back on the medicinal cookie tin for now, still watching Sturm with that same look of concern. She does pause to give Petra a wave and a quick smile, then points at Sturm and makes a shushing gesture. Not so much chiding Petra as pointing out the ouchy-brain in the room at the moment. Her focus on her erstwhile patient distracts her from the fact that her boyfriend just showed up here of all places. She does a double-take, "Jay?" Blink blink.

Jeremiah Hamilton: Jeremiah gave Petra a quick salute and Annie a nod, glad to see the Nymph looking somewhat better, but kept his focus on Polly for the moment a small smile on his face. "Last I checked."

Petra Fichette: Petra gave Polly a thumbs up for helping Sturm out, and then gave Annie a tight hug and squished into the booth next to her.

Anneliese Kiel: "How have you been?" Annie asks her motleymate, returning the hug warmly. "It feels like a long time since we have seen each other." Her voice is quiet so as not to disturb Sturm before Polly can heal the jotun. Which she's not about to interfere in, considering the loophole for Warm Breath has been met.

Strum: "Fine, fine." Sturm's voice is a rumbling growl. "Just fuck me up, I guess." Oh hey, Sturm's nocturnal for a reason. Turns out those odd eyes of hers are probably really light sensitive. Y'know or maybe that's the withdrawal. Who can keep track at this point.

Oh hey! Good news is if you were hot before, Polly, you probably aren't now. Sturm is cold as hell to touch, and her mantle is bracing! It's like it's Fall already. :P

Petra Fichette: "I'm doing great," she said quietly, and took a moment to flash a welcoming smile to Jeremiah. "Hey there! It's been a good week. Accomplished a lot, and Guy asked if he could have a token of mine." She sighed happily. "He can be so romantic. So I'm planning something fancy that will last instead of just a lock of hair or whatever."

Polly Romantic: That is a nice side bonus, for certain. Polly gently settles her hand to rest on Sturm's shoulder as her hand begins to glow. Which is something that can be hard to register, considering Polly is basically a walking light show. But at the end of it all, Sturm's in as tip top shape as magic can make her under the circumstances. Ready to face the day, such as it is. "You call one of us if this keeps up, okay? It takes us no time at all to fix this sort of problem." Her playing at nursemaid ends with her turning back to Jay and blinking owlishly, "Gosh. I had. No idea. I mean, maybe I sort of hoped? But. Uh. We should probably talk. At some point. I guess." She hugs her cookie tin to herself and notes, "I'm fixing minds and bodies at the moment."

Jeremiah Hamilton: Jeremiah let Polly do her Spring thing, nodding when she turned his way. "Wasn't sure the best way to bring it up...suppose this works." He smirked, making an 'after you' motion with his hand. "Don't let me hold you up."

Strum: Though her migraine may have subsided for the moment, Sturm just leaves her head on the countertop for a little bit longer. She flashes Polly a thumbs up. "Thanks."

Anneliese Kiel: "Nice choice of method, by the way," Annie says to Polly. "I usually carry a thermos of tea for that, but it is not as good in this weather." And then her attention turns to Petra. "Yeah? Are you thinking a token, or?"

Polly Romantic: "Feel better," Polly wishfully suggests to Sturm before leaving her to her suffering. Even if that suffering is quite diminished. She then steps on over to Jay and offers him a quick smooch, too, right on the corner of his mouth. "This is a good but unexpected development. Maybe a dinner at my place sort of conversation needs to happen, though, yeah?" She turns to head back to Annie and Petra and reclaim her prior seat. "Hey, Petra. Sorry, Annie. Getting pulled in a couple directions. Also Jay's not a normal person." She hooks her thumb back towards him indicatively, "So. Doing some adjusting, here. Mind if he joins?"

Petra Fichette: "What qualifies as normal here?" Petra mused. "By definition, if you can get in here you're not vanilla human."

Strum: After a few more seconds of resting her head, the Jotunn finally rights herself and slides onto a barstool properly to enjoy the second half of her snickerdoodle by dunking it in coffee. "Fuck, this is so good," Polly gets another thumbs up. "Thank you again."

Jeremiah Hamilton: Jeremiah smiled at the quick kiss, leaving a light one of his own before Polly got too far away. "Sounds good to me." He then looked to Annie at the Torrent's question, not wanting to interrupt.

Anneliese Kiel: "No objection here," Annie says, shrugging one shoulder. "Anything interesting happening in your life, Jay?"

Polly Romantic: "I mean that I just found that out and it's-- nevermind." Polly lets out an sigh of semi-exasperation, then tucks her tin back into her bag so that she can put said bag in her lap and make room for Jay at the booth. She scoots in a little more, then reclaims her menu.

Petra Fichette: Petra wiggled with enthusiasm, wings fluttering for a moment before settling again. "So what's happening? Tree defeated, Summers duct taped back together. What's going on now?"

Jeremiah Hamilton: "Other than this?" Jeremiah motioned between himself and Polly with a small smirk as he took a seat at the table. "Not too much. Came by to see if Maddy was in to put an order in for some tea for the cafe."

Anneliese Kiel: "Restored, not defeated," Annie contradicts Petra gently. "Destroying it was the fallback option, and one I am glad it did not come to." There's a pause as she takes a sip of her water, then, before glancing at Polly and reaching across the booth to touch her hand. "You okay?"(edited)

Strum: Sturm finishes her cookie, and brushes off her hands before sliding off the stool, and then stepping into the back.

Petra Fichette: Petra waved her hand at the difference between restored and defeated. "She protects them but to be honest, she always kind of creeped me out."

Polly Romantic: "Haven't seen Maddy, nope," Polly assures, peering after Sturm with some additional concern. She calls after the retreating snowskin, "You okay?" She does a bit of a double-take back to Annie with a bob of the head in the affirmative, "Yep. Just adjusting and trying to make sure everyone's okay. We may have taped everyone back together physically, but people's noggins are still reeling, so." She gives Annie's hand a pat of reassurance, "I'm good."

Anneliese Kiel: "Okay," Annie says, smiling softly at Polly. "Let me know if that changes? Taking care of people's mental health is just as important as their physical, after all." And then she's glancing towards Petra. "Really? I thought the tree itself was majestic, honestly, even if some of the experiences within it were less than pleasant." Beat. "I should thank Lif for all the work she put in at some point. We likely could not have done it without them."

Strum: "I'm good, thanks." Sturm shoulders the door back open, leaning her head out from the kitchen. "Still a little bit groggy, but that migraine hit me on the way and really knocked me on my ass for a bit." She ducks back inside to finish prepping her to-go order, but hollars through the closing door: "Appreciate you for helping me out, though. Really saved my date from disaster."

Jeremiah Hamilton: "I'll leave her a note, then." Jeremiah nodded, glancing over to Polly and offering her a hand to take if she so wished along with a small smile. "Sorry for springing it on you, even if it was unintentional."

The talk of the tree made him pause, giving the gathered Lost a curious look. "This tree local, out of curiosity? If you can say, that is."

Polly Romantic: "Nah," Polly answers Jay with a shake of the head, but she doesn't clarify where not local happens to be, either. "And it's okay. I'm just in that awkward state of wanting to talk to you about it and knowing this isn't the place, is all. Like I said, overall this is probably a good thing, even if the way I found out was less than spectacular. Not your fault, though." Polly sets her menu aside and agrees, "Yeah, Lif saved out butts. They're good people." Polly gives Sturm a big thumbs up, "Who's the lucky person? Brag it up!"

Anneliese Kiel: Annie also looks curious as to who Sturm is going on a date with.

Petra Fichette: "Majestic, sure," Petra agreed. "Beautiful, glorious, perfectly embodying the seasonal shifts of the region, blah blah blah. I grew up there, and was a member there when I first got out. It's not a bad place but it's not my favorite either. And she's creepy."

Strum: There is no response from the kitchen. Yet.

... but Sturm shoulders her way back through the door, carrying a cup of coffee. She pauses briefly at the counter to fetch the pot, and top herself off, and then drags a stool over to the table from the bar. "Well, I'm the lucky person." She tops off the mugs of anyone at the table that needs coffee before having a seat. "But y'all probably know Teagan, right? We're going to a rage room to smash stuff. It's the kind of date you take a Summer on."

Petra Fichette: Petra laughed at the date idea. "That does sound like fun, even if I'm not a Summer. I should bring Guy there, that'd be pretty hot..."

Polly Romantic: "Oooh. They're hot. Sounds like it'll be fun, too! Not often you just get to break stuff for fun, you know? Usually people frown at you. Excuse me, miss, this is a Target, and so on." Polly does not elaborate on what is clearly a heck of a story. She does go ahead and accept Jeremiah's offered hand, though, holding it with both of hers, even. "Petra has a good idea, though. Watching people smash things might even be better."

Anneliese Kiel: "Probably relies on them being the muscular sort, though, " Annie chuckles quietly.

Jeremiah Hamilton: "Yeah...that does tend to be frowned upon in most places." Jeremiah nodded, also giving the air of having a story to tell there. He gave Polly's hand a small squeeze as well, smiling a touch.

Strum: "Yeah. They really are." Petra's laugh must be contagious, because Sturm chuckles. "Well, it is in public, so Guy would have to tone his shit down or else risk causing a scene, but." She says this like someone that's been punched by Guy once or twice, and pauses to sip her coffee. "Speaking of Guy -- and watching people smash things -- how's he doing lately? I've been so busy with Business that I haven't had a chance to get in the ring much lately." There's a beat as her brain registers what Polly said fully. "Please tell us about the Target that you clearly ruined in that story. "

Hahaha. Yeah. Tell the Sun Banisher about the scene you caused. She seems to be in pretty good spirits at least...

Petra Fichette: Petra offered Polly a fist bump for the solidarity. "I'll have you all know that I am perfectly capable of fighting... my way out of most paper bags." She huffed with mock outrage. "And Guy's doing pretty well. He's been building a super awesome family lately, and we're still dating and it's pretty serious."

Anneliese Kiel: "Oh? Are you allowed to tell us who is in it?"

Polly Romantic: Polly returns Petra's fist bump with a bright smile, "Family is important! And you seem happy, which is what matters most from where I'm sitting. Good for you! And for him." Polly then glances aside at Jay in a 'do I dare tell this story' manner before letting Sturm's pleading get the better of her.

"Okay. So. We're on tour, right? And we're driving through fucking nowhere Montana on out way to Denver and we stop at this Target for like. Road food and stuff? And we're pretty ... not sober. Anyway. You know those caged ball displays? With, like. The balls you used to buy for kickball and four square and dodge ball and stuff? So our drummer sees this thing and gets it in his head that he's going to get the ball at the bottom. Has to have it. He decided it was the loneliest ball and needed a friend. So he climbs in the thing, right? Except these frames aren't really built to have people climbing into them, and the whole thing comes apart. Balls go bouncing everywhere. Some kids see it and they start laughing and kicking the balls, so we start laughing and kicking the balls. And it turns out the guy who was working the electronics section used to be really good at Bombardment? And he gave our guitarist a black eye and his phone number."

"And they say to this day, if you drive through rural Montana, you can still hear rubber bouncing on linoleum." She wiggles her fingers spookily.(edited)

Strum: "That's good, I'm glad to hear that. Usually my fists take motherfuckers apart, not push 'em together." Yeah, Sturm is taking credit for Guy and Petra hooking up apparently. "... and you know, if you wanted to learn how to fight your way out of more than just paper bags, I could show you a few pointers."

There's a little snort of laughter in response from Sturm, but it bubbles into something more genuine by the end of the story. "Fuckin' wild. If it'd been my store, I'd have probably shit a brick, but I'm glad that random employee had a good day." A beat. "What kind of shit do y'all play? Or rather. Do you still play, or was that past tense?"

Jeremiah Hamilton: Jeremiah nodded to Petra at the mention of her beau. "Glad things are going well. He seemed like a solid guy the one time we met."

The Warlock gave Polly a solemn nod when she looked his way, sitting back as she spun her tale. He was smiling by the end of it, shaking his head. "That does sound pretty fun."

Petra Fichette: "Wouldn't have met him without you," she winked at Sturm, happy to give credit where credit was nebulously due. "And I don't think it's a secret or anything," she told Annie, "but I'll let him talk about it instead of stealing his thunder."

Anneliese Kiel: "Good for your guitarist, too, " Annie giggles softly.

Polly Romantic: "I mean. We stuck around to help clean it up, we're not total savages. Admittedly, it probably would have taken less time if we hadn't been helping, but. Yeah. It was pretty funny. That poor ball cage." Polly's head shakes a little, her smile turning lopsided. "Hmm? Oh. I'm the lead singer of Flout? We're the band that The Naked and Famous get compared to? And they're the band we get compared to. Them or Grouplove, I guess." Polly points over at Annie and nods her head, "Indeed. That boy looked like a discount Hemsworth."

Jeremiah Hamilton: "They're really good, too...and no, I'm not biased or anything." Jeremiah said with a smile to Polly, then looked back over to Strum. "Jay, by the way. Just realized I hadn't introduced myself."

Strum: "Sturm." She offers Jay a calloused hand, and a ridiculously firm handshake before turning her attention back to Polly. "Oh, that's pretty dope actually. Not really my particular scene, but I've heard of y'all. I think y'all opened for someone I saw recently. Well, I wasn't in the room, 'cause I work security, but it sounded like you put on a damn good show. Ball cage or no."

Anneliese Kiel: "I mean, you are allowed to be biased, if you have a thing going with a band's lead singer," Annie points out to Jay, before glancing towards Polly. "Speaking of shows, do you have any gigs coming up? I would love to hear you play live."

Petra Fichette: "It would be fun to go to a concert," Petra agreed rather wistfully.

Polly Romantic: "Well. We just got back from a tour last month. So we're not really itching to start playing shows again just yet. Though we'll probably do some fill in out at the Stone Pony if someone drops off. Which usually happens. If you all like, I can let you know when tickets go on sale? And slip you some comps if they sell out?" Polly glances about to ensure this is, in fact, acceptable. "We're sort of boning up our brains for recording our next album. Which we plan to do at Jay's studio, in point of fact."

Petra Fichette: "You guys should play a set for the freehold," Petra suggested. "Or here, though a diner isn't as glam as a theater I guess."

Jeremiah Hamilton: Jeremiah's handshake was firm in that 'professional businessman' sort of way, his own callouses calling towards instrument use rather than hard labor. "True," he commented to Annie with a smirk, "but I enjoy their work not only because of that."

"Indeed. Looking forward to seeing what you guys come up with." He nodded to Polly, adding in a curious look at Petra's suggestion.

Strum: "You'd have to check with Maddy about that," Sturm snickers. "I don't think we're exactly up to code for a live music venue." There's a pause as her cellphone rings, and the sound of seaglass windchimes fills the air. "... but unfortunately, that's my cue. Time to grab breakfast out from the kitchen, and then go pick up Teagan." She slides off the stool and offers a little nod to the table. "I'll catch y'all around. Thanks again for the Excedrin, Polly."

Anneliese Kiel: "Jay's not allowed Hedgeside, so that might make it harder as well," Annie adds. "Though I have been talking about doing a collaboration with a bunch of the musicians who are." Beat. "See you around, Sturm. I hope your date goes well." And then she's glancing at Polly. "Sounds like a plan to me."

Petra Fichette: "I wouldn't trust electric guitars in the Hedge either, but there are places Ironside that could host us all," Petra countered. "And do we really care about code in a magically accessed diner? What kind of health inspector is going to be able to get here anyways?"

Polly Romantic: "There's also the small problem of my band being unable to visit the diner," Polly points out with a wry grin. "We could totally do an acoustic jam in a park, if youse want. Or if you want to go the electric route, I'm sure someone in the Freehold has a ridiculously large home with good enough wiring and plenty of space to host us. If you provide the food and the beverages, maybe sell tickets and provide the profits to a charity, I bet I can talk the guys into doing it, though. Free food and money for a good cause is totally a thing we'd do."

Jeremiah Hamilton: "Good meeting you, Strum." Jeremiah gave the Snowskin a salute as she got up to head out before looking back to the others. The talk of 'Hedgeside' being a place he couldn't go earned an arch of an eyebrow but he deigned to ask about it, instead giving Polly a quick "question for later..." look before nodding. "I can put some work into finding a location, too. I know people who know people, as it were."

Anneliese Kiel: Annie shrugs one shoulder. "I mostly do busking and open mic nights, so I do not really have any useful contacts for hosting a performance, sorry."

Petra Fichette: Petra stood and stretched. Back arching and wings spreading wide, she managed to achieve a very satisfying series of pops all up her spine and then grinned. "I bet you could find us a whole place designed for music even," she told Jay. "And hell Annie, it'd be fun to have you do open mic stuff too. Maybe we should have a whole classic variety show with mundane acts first and magical shit after an "intermission" where we kick all the vanillas out."

Petra Fichette: She relaxed back down. "I love you all but I love Guy more and I have errands to run before he gets up for the night shift. Could someone get the door for me please?" Then Petra shifted into a little brown finch, and flapped around obnoxiously until someone was kind enough to let her out.

Jeremiah Hamilton: "You got it." Jeremiah nodded with a smirk as Petra shifted, not phased by the sight in the slightest. He hopped up to grab the door, holding it open to let her out. "Have a good one."

Polly Romantic: Polly uses this moment to slip out of the booth, since Jay's already hopped out himself. "Hey, Annie? I just wanted you to know that I'm glad we're friends, and that I really enjoy spending time with you. I hope you feel better, okay?" Polly leans back in to give her a quick peck on the cheek, then a fond smile, and finally she's turning about to follow after Petra. "Jay, give me a call, okay? I want to talk about..." Polly gestures between the both of them, then around at Maddy's "Stuff. I'll cook. You have to pick the cuisine this time, though. No cheating."

Jeremiah Hamilton: "Will do." Jeremiah nodded with a small smile. "Mexican, then? Bet we're both missing it at this point."

Anneliese Kiel: "See you around," Annie nods, smiling softly at the cheek peck.

Polly Romantic: "That sounds like a plan," Polly assures Jay. He's the recipient of a tight hug, another quick kiss, and a hasty, "Call me!" And then she's off again, she and her tin of medicinal cookies.

Jeremiah Hamilton: Jeremiah returned the hug and kiss with a smile, waiting until she was well on her way before letting out a quiet breath. "Not quite how I pictured that going..." He said quietly, more to himself than anyone else, then looked back to Annie with a smirk. "Should get going myself. Catch you around."

Anneliese Kiel: "Sure thing, Jay. Be well?"

Jeremiah Hamilton: "You too."
