Maddy's Wafflehouse

Log

Kayla Sockum: Kay is sitting in one of the booths and poking at her food with a keen focus on it, her appearance is pretty normal today, a blue shirt and a black pair of pants with some flat shoes. If there is magic active on her, she's hiding it in some way.

Jeremiah Hamilton: Jeremiah bebopped into Maddy's through the portal as one tends to do, a bit of a spring in his step and humming lightly to himself as he went. The Mastigos was dressed casually in jeans, boots and a grey t-shirt, sporting a pair of chunky black glasses rather than his usual non-bespectacled look. Spotting Kay already within he smiled, giving her a quick salute as he headed for her table. "Hey."

Kayla Sockum: "Hey, how're you?" Kay gathers a few things, papers, a shopping bag and her glass of water, to make space for Jay at the table. "Glad you could make it!" she smiles brightly, setting her phone face down on the table.

Jeremiah Hamilton: "Doing pretty well." He replied with a smile, claiming a seat for himself at the table as Kay made room. "But of course. We've been talking about doing this off and on for how long now?"

Kayla Sockum: "I'm betting a few months by now, at the very least." Kay chuckles "Except when I first offered, I was like, barely able to heal myself." She smiles. "Want to get some food first or do you want to dig into the main course, so to speak"?

Jeremiah Hamilton: "I'd say let's get right into it."

Kayla Sockum: "So, where do you want to start from?" Kay asks, taking one last bit from her pancakes and setting them aside to focus on the conversation, giving her attention to Jay in full.

Jeremiah Hamilton: "Good question." Jeremiah sat back in his seat, mulling it over for a moment. "What do you see as the foundation for that particular branch of the path, as it were? With Space, for example, you can basically condense it down to 'distance is a lie', but what's the equivalent for Life?"

Kayla Sockum: "That's a little harder for me to summarize life in such a way, because of how I've approached it as a continuation, a part of the transformation from life to death and death to life." She explains "But in and of itself, you'll find that life is in a lot of place that you haven't considered before. One of the earlier knowing spell you can cast is a spell that lets you detect life and it's kind of overwhelming when you dont specify what kind of life."

Jeremiah Hamilton: "Right...makes sense." He nodded quietly, listening keenly as she continued. "I bet. Need to filter out all the microbial-level stuff or it'll get overwhelming quick."

Kayla Sockum: "I suspect someone with mind might be able to deal with it better though." She grins and winks at Jay. "One of the things I thought I'd do to help for the first few things would be to share the ability to call on the Life Sight so that you could form your own idea of what to expect."

"I tend to learn better through experiences, so I like to offer that when I teach people." she explains.

Jeremiah Hamilton: "Same, honestly." He gave another nod, along with a grin that couldn't hide his excitement. "Sounds like a plan. Hit me."

Kayla Sockum: Kay takes a deep breath and the scent around them changes to something that one might spell when visiting a forest or an area with a lot of plant, a cloud of tiny spores, almost unseen to the eyes, float about her and the room and some of the spore touches and cling to Jay's skin, sharing, upon being fed potentia, the ability to use the Life sight.

Jeremiah Hamilton: Jeremiah watched as the spores were unleashed, eyeing the patch curiously as it settled on him. "Just give it a little juice like normal, then?"

Kayla Sockum: "Give it a moment, I've already spent the potentia, if I don't do it, you won't be able to, since you don't know life yet. I'm not sure this power even would let me let you spend the juice." And indeed, Kay has already paid the cost, Life Sight turning on.

Jeremiah Hamilton: "Got...cha..." The word trailed off when the new sight kicked in, blinking as he sat back in his seat. He turned his attention back towards Kay after a moment, his head tilting as he looked her over. "That's interesting."

Kayla Sockum: "You should be able to tell a few things about me by simple virtue of looking." And indeed the sight would reveal a minor cut, likely caused by shaving, down on her legs and some bruising Jay might link to a random string of curse words heard in the wee hours of the morning. The dreaded pinky toe corner-finder.

Jeremiah Hamilton: "Yeah...small cut on your leg and a bruised toe." He nodded, smirking a touch. "Guessing that's what happened this morning?"

Kayla Sockum: "You could probably try to see if I altered my form or guess other things with the sight on too. It'll let you know if something is alive at all, if you can perceive it, though I don't know what that answer would be if you'd look at a Mind ghost, I don't remember the term." she chuckles.

Jeremiah Hamilton: "There's not a physical component there to track, so probably not." He gave another little nod, looking over the others present at the diner at the moment before turning back to Kay. "That is definitely handy, though."

Kayla Sockum: "Speaking with animals is definitely something useful for our situation here in philly." Kay says with a little smile. "It's part of my daily routine at this point, plus even if I don't encounter fox or Mary, there's always a squirrel who wants to chat."

Jeremiah Hamilton: "I bet...you can do that that early on?" He looked intrigued by the proposition, the gears turning a bit. "Nice."

Kayla Sockum: "It's an initiate spell, yes. I don't have it as a rote, but I do have the sense heightened one, if you want to learn one when you get the chance." Kay offers. "Life at early level gives you a lot of really cool quality of life updates like that."

Jeremiah Hamilton: "Forces was the same way, actually. Gave a lot of little 'here's how to tweak things' effects at the start that you build on from there."

Kayla Sockum: "How do you think you'll work Life into the way you look at magic?" Kay asks, a bit out of no where, sure, but inspiration strikes at odd moments.

Jeremiah Hamilton: Jeremiah started to say something but paused, taking the time to actually think on the answer. "Adding a new set of available chords to the general symphony of the universe, is the best way I can put it. Some of the notes are already there from the mental and spatial presence of different things, but it would add another layer of complexity to it. In a good way, mind."

Kayla Sockum: "So, Magic is like music to you? I'm betting it sounds amazing." Kay says, flattering and half flirting, as per usual. "I'm not sure I can imagine what music for Life or by Life would be, maybe something with an actual voice or hand clapping, foot stomping?"

Jeremiah Hamilton: "For the most part, yeah. It's always been a big part of my life, and I held onto that during my time at the Tower." He nodded with a small smile. "Have to wonder. Could see like a low bassline, yeah..."

Kayla Sockum: Kay ponders for a moment, about the other Arcane, trying to envision her own magic through the same lens, for just a moment. "It's a really 'you' way of working through magic, I like it."

Jeremiah Hamilton: "Since joining the Path it's changed a bit, adding in the light that comes from the spark of the Supernal within everything, but it's still mostly auditory. How does it manifest for you, out of curiosity?"

Kayla Sockum: "It's a transition, a transformation from a state to another, altering a shape to make it into another. Life to Death, Water to Mist, nothing ever being truly lost." she tap her fingers on the table, almost as if about to cast, but she doesn't complete it, or even really start it.

"A worm dies to feed the flowers who in turns becomes fiber from which a hat is made. Different Arcana either adds to my understanding of the cycle or let me peers into another cycle of transformation."

Jeremiah Hamilton: Jeremiah nodded, able to peer through that lens himself for a moment. "Makes sense, especially with the legacy you've crafted."

Kayla Sockum: Kay smiles. "I suppose it does, Do you have any specific questions about Life that would help you out?"

Jeremiah Hamilton: "Is there a particular facet that you would recommend focusing on to try and forge that initial connection?"

Kayla Sockum: "Hmm given your particular way of viewing magic and interests, I think you'd find it rather interesting to focus on bettering your senses and what you could perceive beyond your normal human ears and eyes. Listening to your own music, trying to perceive in more details, in varied methods?" She says with a nod. "Listening to your music with say, the senses of a bat would probably sound very different, as would sensing the vibration from it."

Jeremiah Hamilton: "That it would." He nodded quietly, mulling over the idea. "Can definitely give it a shot; I can already do that in a way via Forces, but focusing it through a more physical lens should be doable."

Kayla Sockum: "More than one way to reach your goal, but only one of them will give you cute bat ear eventually." Kay grins and mimic having large ear with her hands.

Jeremiah Hamilton: "True..." He grinned at the faux bat ears, chuckling. "How far in do you have to study for the more in-depth physical transformations like that?"

Kayla Sockum: "At disciple you can start sprouting animal things onto your body. At apprentice, you learn to manage your own body, that was the level where I got to explore gender a little more with." Kay explains with a little nod. "In the mean time, there's no shortage of people who'd be willing to let you try out something like that."

Jeremiah Hamilton: "Ah...interesting." He nodded, making a mental note. "I can imagine. You, Mary, probably Fox if I asked her right..."

Kayla Sockum: "Yes, I believe Mei might be able to do it as well, but I'm not as certain on that one." Kay acquiesce. "Others may have studied it too, but other than that, you'd start to have to ask to older folks."

Jeremiah Hamilton: "Right. Let me see where I get by myself first and I'll go from there." He said with a smile, looking Kay over. "Thanks again for the help on this."

Kayla Sockum: "I'm always happy to help! Want to grab something to go or do you want to head back home and eat there?" She asks curious "Or do you have other projects?"

Jeremiah Hamilton: "Nothing else going on tonight expect working on this, so grabbing something to go works for me."

Kayla Sockum: "Alright then!" She grins "Let's get going."
