Freehold Hollow

Log

Aurelio Menegi: Aurelio was a man who preferred to keep his hands busy overall, and while he had come to the freehold hollow to relax he also brought a bit of work with him, in the form of a block of wood that he was carefully shaping with the blade in his hand. The Torrent was rather easy to spot, the contrast of black clothes and white marble skin notable against the side of the cottage he was sitting beside.

Petra: Petra was tucking her cellphone away into her bag as she came in through from the human side, and hummed happily to herself. The little Spring bird was surrounded by the scent of fresh turned earth and growing things, and was dressed in jeans and a halter top that let her plain brown wings move freely. She kicked off her shoes and flexed her toe-talons into the ground happily.

Aurelio Menegi: Aurelio looked Petra's way as she entered, smiling a touch while she got comfortable. When he spoke the word were colored by his native Italian, and not in the "we've been here for generations" way one sees in South Philly. "Is good to be able to relax, no?"

Petra: "Stars yes," She said happily. "I'd forgo shoes entirely if floors and sidewalks weren't so vile." Petra beamed at Aurelio. "I'm sorry, I don't think we've met properly. I'm Petra."

Aurelio Menegi: "Aurelio Menegi. Good to meet you."

Petra: She came over and sat sociably near him, watching him shape the wood curiously. "What are you making?"

Aurelio Menegi: When she sat closer the warmth of a half-opened kiln washed over her, the mark of Summer on his person clear to see. "Not sure yet...waiting to see what the wood tells me."

Petra: Petra stretched out her wings, happily basking in the warmth of his mantle. "Literally or metaphorically? Honestly, neither would be a surprise around these parts."

Aurelio Menegi: "More the second, in this case. If there is a working for the first I do not know it." He smirked a touch, turning his attention back to the wood a she continued. "Seeing where the grain goes and what should be shaped next, as it were."

Petra: "That's cool. I'm not really one for crafty things. Except a bit of needlepoint." She chuckled. "Though I rarely get compliments for that."

Aurelio Menegi: "That is a shame. I had an aunt who made lace with wooden holders for the thread...it was facinating to see her make them move and the pattern that came with it." The memory was a good one, a small smile gracing his features. "Was never one for working with cloth myself, but I admire the skill."

Petra: "I usually practice my needlepoint in flesh though. So there's more curses and tears involved. Healer and EMT, not a tattooist, for the record. Do you do anything else besides wood carving?" she asked. "Not that that isn't enough, but the way you said you don't work with cloth makes me think you do other stuff too."

Aurelio Menegi: "Ah...not a bad thing, that." He nodded, making a few more marks on the wood as he continued. "Glass, mostly, but with some woodwork for framing and ornamenting."

Petra: "Glass! Didn't see that one coming. Sounds pretty cool. No wonder you're so hot." Petra fanned her wings at him. "It's like sitting in front of a fire and letting all the stress bake out of me."

Aurelio Menegi: "I was taught in Venice when I was younger and kept with it when I got back. A studio in South Philly uses the same techniques, so I came to work there and do my part." He chuckled at the fanning from her wings, giving another small nod before setting down the knife and offering his hand. If touched the marble was shockingly cold, especially compared to his mantle. "Where I was between was quite cold, so the mark helps fend that off."

Petra: Her eyes lit with interest as she shook his cold hand, and she shook it quite properly, then touched his arm with one hand and held the other close to it, experimenting with effects of the differing temperatures. "Huh! That's cool! I wonder what would happen if I took your temperature with an internal thermometer and compared it with the results of a non-contact infrared one. Hell, I'm not even sure how the mask would deal with that, come to think of it. Would I see different results from a human? Or would the mask affect the results itself?"

Aurelio Menegi: Aurelio let her examine the difference without qualm, an eyebrow arching at the question. "One must wonder. Never really thought to check."

Petra: "Never occurred to me either until now," she admitted, and leaned back to give him a bit more socially acceptable space. "You're the first one with such a stark temperature differential all in one package. I mean Sturm is all frosty but she's Winter. I should find an Autumn to write a paper on the topic."

Aurelio Menegi: "Not opposed." He nodded, sitting back with a small smirk. "Must admit that I am more familiar with anatomy on a visual front than a medical one."

Petra: "So's the rest of my court," Petra teased. "I mean Summer's usually more familiar with internal anatomy than most Springs."

Aurelio Menegi: "Ah...very true." He chuckled. "The better to know where to put the blade, as it were. I tend more towards unarmed combat, but with how we can slip the grasp of one another with a thought I've learned other styles as well."

Petra: Petra nodded. "I'm not much of a fighter beyond basic self defense- and my usual approach is running, jumping, and flying like hell in the other direction. I've pulled the slippery trick on an experienced wrestler once and his look of consternation was pretty damn priceless. Then again... if you aren't fighting our kind then it's not as much of an issue?"

Aurelio Menegi: "To each their own. Wings I have not, but I do with what I have." He nodded with a smirk. "I can imagine, and indeed. My own...gifts fare well with a long touch, so keeping it with those who can not slip so easy does help."

Petra: Petra gave him a long look. "Do... other people around here know you have that kind of gift?" she asked quietly.

Aurelio Menegi: "There was one who knew, although he has left to my knowledge." He paused for a moment, a metaphorical lightbulb flickering on over his head as he looked her over. "I think he mentioned another as well...one not as 'burdened' by it, as he put it."

Petra: "Burdened, huh? Things... didn't go as well in my old freehold so I kept it quiet when I came here." Petra was silent for a long moment. "Did you know that in the Galápagos there are over a dozen different species of finches?"

Aurelio Menegi: "Understandable. I did tell one other of the Autumn of it, as we both tend towards grappling, but she seemed appeased at the fact that I do not use it on those I am sworn to protect."

Petra: "That kind of reaction, the fact that people need to be appeased is why I don't tell people," Petra said with a sigh. "Layers of masks... I trust you won't go blabbing like that other guy apparently did. Shit. I wonder who else he told."

Aurelio Menegi: "Of course. I have no issues being known on that front, as actions speak for themselves, but you will not be known from my words."

Petra: "Thanks." She let out a sigh, then flopped back in the grass. "So do you have a fancy title in Summer? You've got a pretty strong mantle."

Aurelio Menegi: "Page of High Noon, for now. Have only been here a few months."

Petra: Petra offered him a fistbump. "I'm still a page too. Been here a few years but I've been too busy work my work life and don't really have any desire to be a Joyeux."

Aurelio Menegi: "Understandable. Not familiar enough with the Hedge here for a place with the Hunters myself, but taking time to learn is not bad."

He returned the fist bump, the chill from the marble revealed once again at the contact.

Petra: She laughed a little. "I'm not that familiar either. Tromping around in the thorns is not my forte or favorite thing to do except in direst of need."

Gallowglass: There's rustling in the grass, and then - out pops a Gallowglass:-shaped visitor. He trudges into the freehold, big hands slung in his pants pockets. He has a blue fabric flower pinned to the breast of his thin black t-shirt.

Aurelio Menegi: "Haven't had much of a need here, but if the call for aid on patrols arises I will be there."

Aurelio, for his part, was dressed casually in black jeans and t-shirt that contrasted the white marble of his skin, the beginnings of a wooden carving and the blade he was using sitting nearby. He looked towards Gallowglass: at his arrival before giving a nod.

Petra: Petra smiled to Gallowglass:, her eyes catching on the fabric flower for a long moment. "I don't have to go out a lot, but having certain types of fruit on hand is just prudent."

Gallowglass: He ambles closer to the pair, a mountain of a man in cheap black pants and a cheaper black t-shirt. His mien is pale all over; a wash of blank mirror-glass that lacks little true definition. "Hey," he greets the pair, raking a hand through his hair. "I'm Gallowglass:; don't think I met either of you before."

Aurelio Menegi: "Don't think so, no." He offered a hand, the warmth of the open kiln that marked him as one of the Spear countered by the intense chill that came from the marble. "Aurelio Menegi, good to meet you."

Petra: "Oh! You're Gallowglass! Nice to meet you. I'm Petra, we've been texting- actually Aurelio and I were just talking about our little trip into the hedge." She glanced at the elemental. "Peter Wood asked Gallowglass: to arrange an escort quest."

Gallowglass: Gallowglass: brightens considerably, his smile rising complete with dimples. "Oh, you're here! I texted you not that long ago." He shakes Aurelio's hand as well, nodding. "He did, yes. I'll be helpin' Miss Petra here fetch some of her goblin fruits." He studies Aurelio a moment. "You're with the Iron Spear too, yeah?"

Aurelio Menegi: "Ah...I see." Aurelio nodded, looking up to Gal. "I am, yes. Been in town for a few months."

Gallowglass: "Welcome, then. Only been here a few months myself, mostly kept t'myself for awhile. You two mind if I sit? We can hash out th'trip. Peter said to round up other Pages and bring 'em with. You should come with us, Aurelio."

Petra: She quirked a smile at Aurelio. "You don't have to, if you don't want to. Your Desires are your own, whatever Summer says."

Aurelio Menegi: He smiled in kind to Petra. "Not opposed to working with my fellows and aiding another in need."

Gallowglass: He stifles a grin, nose wrinkling; he lifts a large hand to hold between Petra's face and Aurelio's. "Don't listen to her," he stage whispers. "Feel the wrath, feel the burn, let it rise in your chest and know victory!"

Petra: Petra swatted at Gallowglass and laughed. "Yes, yes. You summers are adorable, but it's still Spring."

Aurelio Menegi: Aurelio chuckled at the back and forth between the two, shaking his head with a smile. "That it is..."

Gallowglass: He lifts both hands in surrender, giving her a smile. "Fair. I'm outta bounds. All th'same - you look like you can handle yourself, yeah?" That last is to Aurelio, of course.

Petra: Petra raised an eyebrow to Gallowglass. "How about yourself? You're a big guy, but size isn't everything." Said the tiny bird.

Gallowglass: Gallowglass: laughs, raising both brows. "Are you...are you serious? Yeah. Fightin' is somethin' I'm good at. Maybe it's th'thing I'm best at, even."

Aurelio Menegi: "Have room to improve with some styles, but I can hold my own." Aurelio smirked a touch, having a feeling where this might be going...

Petra: She chuckled. "I try not to rely on stereotypes. Not all summers are going to be the awesomest fighters. Not all Autumns are Dr. Strange- though that would be pretty awesome if they were," she admitted.

Gallowglass: "I like t'think I keep it pretty simple. Or I'm just...simple, in and of itself," he admits, rubbing his neck with one hand.

Aurelio Menegi: "Battle can be waged on many fields, as they say."

Petra: Petra reached out and touched Gallowglass's arm. "No one's ever simple," she said sincerely. "We're people. Wonderfully complicated, deep, and messy. Every single one of us. And I very much appreciate you agreeing to come out to the hedge with me."

Gallowglass: He blinks at Petra in surprise, even flinching at the familiar touch; Gal fidgets, flustered, and clears his throat. "Well, that...that's real nice of you to say," he admits quietly, twisting his large hands together. "I ain't so sure about that, but...I do know that I'm happy t'protect you in th'Hedge so you can get what you need. Ain't no problem at all. I like doin' things for Freeholders."

Aurelio Menegi: Aurelio nodded in agreement with Petra. "We may have just met, but you seem solid. Would be more than happy to fight at your side as a Spear."

Petra: Petra pulled back when he flinched. "I'm sorry, I tend to touch more than some of us prefer," she apologized. "I really should ask and forget sometimes."

Gallowglass: "No!" He objects immediately, lifting a hand. "Uh..no, it's...not that. I think, uh." Gal opens his mouth and closes it again; opens, closes. He sets his jaw and nods, brow furrowing. "I think you're th'first, um...freeholder, or just..person like me, here, that's ever, uh...touched me. And they weren't mad at me. It was just surprising, I'm sorry. All...all right, then. That's great." He laughs a little, brows lifting, and his fingers reflexively brush his little blue flower. "More than great."

Aurelio Menegi: Aurelio remained quiet for the moment, watching the exchange between the two without comment.

Petra: Petra scowled- the tiny bird uncharacteristically pissed off. "What the hell? Why would you have gotten such a poor welcome? Most people tend to be really nice around here, and the fact that I'm the first freehold to touch you in friendship is frankly disturbing and wrong."

Gallowglass: "Oh - no no, um, soothe your feathers," he assures her, lifting both hands. "In their defense, I can be a real prick. I'm just..uh..tryin' somethin' different, that's all. It ain't nobody else's fault, promise. Just been a bit of a rough road, but again, that's on me."

Aurelio Menegi: "Any help you are needing on the new path?"

Petra: "Our Joyeux have clearly fallen off the welcome wagon," Petra grumbled, but she settled again. "Plenty of assholes around here, no need to be unwelcoming assholes though. I don't want to see anyone feel like they aren't welcome in my freehold." She shot a glance at Aurelio, then back to Gallowglass:. "So how many do you want to bring on this little quest?"

Gallowglass: "No, I mean - really, it wasn't anyone's deal. It's just..how shit turned out, but...like I said, new leaf." He shakes his head to Aurelio. "Don't think so. Just tryin' t'treat people better, and...well, y'know, bein' ironside made me realize I can start over. I mean, I gotta, but I can be..whoever I want. It's sort of turnin' out t'be a little bit of a mindfuck. Uh, I was thinkin' three pages and you, but you bring whoever you wish t'bring, little bird."

Aurelio Menegi: He nodded quietly at that. "Was there myself when I returned. I was also gone for...quite some time, so I had a more blank slate than most. Made for interesting times."

Petra: "How much missing time do you have?" Petra asked softly, then shook her head at Gallowglass. "I don't have anyone in particular I'd want to drag along. Your idea sounds good so I'll leave it in your hands."

Gallowglass: Gal offers Petra a nod, gaze shifting curiously to Aurelio. Leaning back, he stretches out to rest in half-repose, his weight mostly on his forearms.

Aurelio Menegi: "Over a century." He answered with a note of hesitance, watching the pair for their reaction. "Took some time to adjust, as you would think."

Petra: She winced. "Shit, I'm sorry. I've heard others have been gone similarly long periods of time. I can't imagine... I barely missed anything myself."

Gallowglass: "Shit, I bet," he whistles, brows lifting. "I was only out for a few years, far as I can tell. Can't imagine what that'd be like. Did you get on your feet okay?"

Aurelio Menegi: "Met a few others here." He nodded to Petra quietly. "Had a good bit of help from those in Venice when I first returned. Still learning some things, but can handle day-to-day well enough."

Petra: "If you were in Venice why would you have come here?" Petra asked, somewhat bewildered. "I would love to go there someday. The pictures are beautiful."

Gallowglass: "I bet it smells fuckin' awful, though," he muses, wrinkling his nose. "Does it, Aurelio?"

Aurelio Menegi: "Work, in part; the studio I work at here uses the same techniques I was trained in. That and it was...both too familiar and not enough, if you follow. Starting fresh made sense."

"Not always, no. Better now than before, to be honest."

Petra: She nodded slowly. "I guess I can get that. And I'm glad we have you! I'd love to see your glasswork sometime."

Gallowglass: "Oh, you blow glass?" His mouth kicks up to one side as he sits up, stretching. "I'd love t'see that. I like anythin' I can do with my hands, just feels powerful. And sadly...you're both wonderful company, but I told myself I had one more thing to set right tonight. But...my number's on th'board, if you ever need a little company, or a good spar. Whatever."

Petra: Petra's smile widened into a grin. "If you get into a sparring match, call me."

Aurelio Menegi: "Murano Glassworks, a few blocks south of Geno's and whatnot in South Philly. There are demonstrations sometimes and a gallery. Would love to see you there." He nodded with a small smile. "Will send a message once I'm outside with my number. Was good meeting you."

Gallowglass: Gallowglass drops his jaw to mimic being aghast at Petra's response, hopping ot his feet. "Bloodthirsty little bird," he chides, grinning. "Are you sure you're not a crow? Crows do love a good fight." He flips a wave to the pair, bidding them a goodbye as he slips away.

Petra: Petra huffed. "Crows, they're just a bunch of hooligans." Then she smiled and shot a look to Aurelio after Gallowglass had gone. "Maybe he's not wrong on the bloodthirsty front though."

Aurelio Menegi: "Perhaps." He nodded quietly, looking her over. "The want to take is ever-present, but keeping it to a need is doable."

Petra: "Yeah. I don't want to hurt people. The opposite in fact. Hell, I'm a healer at heart... even if I do like watching people get bloodied up a bit first. I just don't want people afraid of me."

Aurelio Menegi: "As I said, actions speak for you. What you do for others with what you have will make the mark you wish."
