Setting

Freehold Hollow

Log

Lux: Lux is leaning against an outer wall of one of the cottages, legs tucked up with a drawing pad in their lap. They're scribbling away at it, not paying too much attention to their surroundings.

Sigrun Ljosdottir: It's chore time. Sigrun has hauled a crate of weapons out of the summer Hollow and set them down near her favorite rock perch to begin sharpening them with a whetstone. Their burrs and nicks must not be too terrible if that's all the work they need, either that or she already ground some of them down. In any case, the singing of stone on steel soon fills the air. She offers a wave to Lux as she works, glowing as she always does.

Arthur Phoenix: One of the entrances to the Freehold slips open and in slides Arthur, his backpack slung over his back and two large tupperware containers balanced in hand.

Looking focused he heads towards the Summer cottages only to stop when he hears the ring of a whetstone.

His eyes slide over to Lux and then back to Sigrun. "......"

Aurelio Menegi: Aurelio made his way into the freehold from the non-Thorns side, dressed casually in the all-black ensemble that he tended to prefer which contrasted the white marble of his skin. A comfortable heat radiated off of the Torrent as he walked, giving those already gathered a nod before also eyeing the weapons crate curiously. "In need of a hand?"

Lux: Lux doesn't look up immediately, but the singing of the stone against metal eventually draws them out of their sketching, looking up and over. "Oh." They blink, then stuff colored pencils into a backpack and tuck the drawing pad under their arm so they can stand and make their way over. "Hey. Sigrun, right?" Then spotting Arthur, Lux offers over a wave and easy going smile. "Hey Artie. Or Arthur. Which do you actually prefer?" Aurelio, meanwhile, gets a curious up and down look as he wanders up.

Sigrun Ljosdottir: "I wouldn't say no to the help," Sigrun admits to Aurelio as he turns up to offer his assistance. "There should be another stone or two down there. I trust you've done this before?" She pauses her work to run a thumb along the edge of the blade she'd been sharpening to test if she's gotten the burrs out. Satisfied, she turns the blade over to repeat the process on the opposite edge. "That's right. And you're Lux. Hard one to forget." She gives them a grin at this praise, then resumes her work. "Hey, Artie."

Arthur Phoenix: The wizened seems anxious (what else is new), unsure of how Sigrun would react to him after their last encounter. And even as she addresses him, he wasn't quite sure but there was at least a buffer in Lux and.... A guy.

"Uhm... I-I don't mind ei-either. Arthur makes me sound old though..." He admits shyly.

Aurelio Menegi: "A few times, yes." He nodded, moving to claim a stone and a seat for himself. At the curious looks from the other two he gave another nod. "Aurelio, good to meet you."

Lux: "Hm, you're not wrong," they reply to Sigrun, preening and grinning back at the praise. They peer down at the weapons, shouldering their backpack as they rock energetically on their heels. "I'd offer, buuut... I'd be more likely to cut a finger off."

"I'm Lux," they say to Aurelio. "Nice to meet you too. Oh--wait, you're the glass dude, aren't you?" A more curious look towards Aurelio, before nodding to Artie. "I dunno, Arthur is kinda cute. Like, got a nerdy chic ring to it. But got it--Artie it is." They thumbs up towards him.

Sigrun Ljosdottir: Sigrun nods to Aurelio. Good enough for her. She scoots over on her perch to make room for Aurelio, looking aside at him with a raised eyebrow. "Glass dude?" Given that he is very clearly a marble dude, she asks the obvious question. "I could teach you how to sharpen a weapon, Lux. If you can paint, you can sharpen a blade. I promise. Assuming you're actually interested." She offers no opinion on the Arthur/Artie debate. Apart from having called him Artie.

Arthur Phoenix: Artie also gives Lux a confused look. What'd they mean by glass dude? Then again Lux did just kinda know things. Maybe cuz he ran around a lot? Talk about putting in leg work...

"Or I could show you if you want Lux? Could start small with uhm... Kitchen knives. I-if you don't do weapons a lot I mean. Y-you cook right?" He queried.

"Oh uh... Hi Aurelio. I'm um... Arthur.... Obviously..."he mutters with a slight blush, a molten orange glow beneath his cheeks familiar to all the metal workers. It looked as if hot metal coursed through his veins in place of blood.

Aurelio Menegi: "A hint of recognition lit up his eyes at the name given, followed by a note of pride in his voice. "I am, yes. And you are the street painter? Good to put a face to the name. And good to meet you as well, Artie."

The confusion from Sigrun and Artie earned a small smirk. "I am a glassblower by trade. Currently work at a place in South Philly that uses the same techniques I was trained in at home in Venice."

Sigrun Ljosdottir: Sigrun's curiosity turns into awe. Being an aspiring crafter, meeting a Venetian glassblower is like being an aspiring quarterback and meeting Peyton Manning. "You make Murano glass?" She stops sharpening the blade in her hands and stares at Aurelio like he's some sort of rock star. "Where's your place? I need some for our new place. Oh, man, I'm going to have to save up some pennies."

Lux: Lux glances around at the offers to teach, then shrugs. "Eh, sure. Why not. How's this thing... work?" With a gesture to the whetstones. "And no, I don't cook. Don't really got the patience for it. I survive off of candy and fast food." They smile at Aurelio. "I'd love to see your work, sometime. I don't have any experience with glass."

Lux plops down beside the group, picking up a knife to examine.

Arthur Phoenix: "Oh. That's really cool. I've never made glass before. I saw it on a video once though. It's so pretty. Just like sugar sculpting but hotter." Boy he would love to watch someone blow glass in person.

To Lux he considered for a moment. "Well it's kind of like really controlled sanding or grinding. People think of metal as really hard but actually it's rather brittle really. So when you use it like we do, it gets dinged and nicked and dulled which is bad for cutting. And its not quite as simple as running the whetstone over the edge. Metal has a grain to it just like um... Wood or meat and the angle is important too." He tries explaining. "Does... That make sense?"

Aurelio Menegi: Getting the starry-eyed look for his work was something of a new experience for the Torrent, the smirk shifting to a proper smile as he nodded. "On South Franklin off of Tasker, few blocks south of Geno's and all that. There is a gallery there as well as the workshop, with demonstrations now and again."

Lux: "Uhh..." Lux squints a bit towards Artie. "Kind of, yeah..." They reach for a whetstone. "So you go... with the grain?" The starry eyed look made the Bright One snort softly in amusement. "I'll stop by, sometime. Sounds awesome."

Sigrun Ljosdottir: "I will be there with bells on. I love Murano glass. That's so cool." Sigrun has no criticism of Artie's instructions, though she does hold her blade up to the light so that Lux can better see the striations in the metal. She points out the grain, then runs her blade along the stone with a hiss of metal. Just demonstrating the practice. "Like petting a cat," she suggests to Lux, "mess it up and you'll have a cut on your hands."

Arthur Phoenix: The smith smiles as Lux seems to understand. "Mhm. And you don't have to push too hard either. Cuz what you're doing is shaving off itty bits of the metal so you have to be a little careful not to take off too much on either side. Here," he says setting down his tupperware.

Stepping over, he pulls a folding knife from his pocket and holds it out. "See? Look down along the edge there. See how it's sort of a uh triangle? From sharpening both sides to give it an even edge geometry. The more acute the angle, the sharper the edge." He grins wide, still hoping he's being understood.

Aurelio Menegi: "Look forward to it. Haven't met too many here who know of it as of yet, glad to hear it's still appreciated." As he spoke he reached over to claim one of the weapons from the crate, looking it over see where to start. "Takes a bit of practice to get the technique down, but is usually worth it."

Lux: Lux looks to Sigrun, then to Arthur, following along with a little nod. "Okay. Doesn't seem too hard..." They lean over, squinting at the blade as they start to slowly, carefully slide the stone across the edge. "By the way, Sigrun... Teagan talked me into buying some armor from you. If you have the time."

Arthur Phoenix: "Oh? What Kind of armor do you need Lux? I didn't know you fought stuff." He asked curiously, surprised the Bright One needed that sort of protection. Then again, who didn't?

"It's kind of cool to meet another craftsperson, Aurelio. Did you just move here?"

Aurelio Menegi: "In January. Been getting settled in, for the most part." He started working on his own blade as he spoke, the movement of the whetstone slow and sure. "What sort of work do you do?"

Lux: "Oh, I don't fight at all." Lux smirks. "I'm more likely to run away from a fight than anything. But, I mean, come on, if I have the opportunity to wear a skin-tight rainbow leather catsuit, why wouldn't I?"

Sigrun Ljosdottir: "I don't really sell armor or weapons, I just make stuff for folx. Right now I've got more time than money, so I can take on extra work if people can fund the resources for it. What sort of armor did you have in mind?" Sigrun finishes off her blade, tests the edge by running her thumb along the flat, then wipes the blade down with an oil cloth and sets it back into its sheathe and places it in the finished pile. Another weapon is taken up for similar work. "It's always good to have armor, even if you don't fight. Being a noncombatant is no guarantee combat won't find you."

Arthur Phoenix: "Oh uh... A bunch of stuff. 'M a tailor and a smith mostly. I make clothes and armor and weapons and trinkets and food mostly but I. Like making things so I try pretty much whatever." He points a soot black finger at a poster on one of the cottages. "Those are my posters telling people to stop by my place for jobs and stuff. I'm actually trying to find a photographer to help me do a photoshoot."

Then he blinks at Lux's question. "I don't know why you wouldn't. You don't already have one?"

Aurelio Menegi: Aurelio paused at Lux's comment, looking the Bright One over briefly before smirking. "Can see that being a good look on you."

"Ah...I see." He glanced towards the poster in question, giving a nod. "Done some woodworking in the past but not recently, mostly for frames and whatnot. Never had much of an eye for cloth."

Lux: "I want a skintight rainbow leather catsuit," Lux replies to Sigrun, apparently completely serious. "And yeah, I meant like--commission you for it."

"...I mean yeah I have a catsuit but it's not, like, workable as armor. Just looks hot." They consider Artie. "I should come by your shop sometime and check out your clothes. Do you make, like... sexy stuff, ever?"

Sigrun Ljosdottir: "Skin tight rainbow leather catsuit." Sigrun repeats in a manner that makes it clear she was not expecting that to be the response to 'what sort of armor'. "I... can absolutely create something like that. You. I mean. Obviously that won't help you hide, you realize. You'll be a walking advertisement for yourself. Which isn't always what people want out of their armor. But if you're set on it, sure. I think we got some extra hides in from the last patrol that ran afoul of briarwolves."

Arthur Phoenix: Artie's eyes go wide at the Winter courtier's question, that orange glow returning around his ears. "S-s-sex....y? I- uh.... I d-don't.... I gue-guess I could do it..." He stammers out, averting his gaze. He'd not really thought about his clothes being sexy before but now that it had been mentioned, lingerie and underwear and stuff wouldn't be too hard to make. But no one had ever asked him for sexy stuff before. "I d-did make a boobie bra for a drag friend though. S-so she didn't have to to..stuff it every time. Does that count?" His orange glow was growing ever brighter by the second.

Fortunately, Aurelio's comment saved him a little. "Really? I love working with fabric. It's so soft and elegant and orderly and so many colors and patterns and stitches! It's as endlessly imaginative as drawing but you get a cool useful thing at the end. And when you make clothes for people tbey look so happy when they like it. It's the best." He sighs wistfully, the ambient light around him glaring as he gets just a little passionate.

Lux: Lux stops running the stone over the blade and looks to Sigrun, squinting. "I realize we've only met a couple times but... when am I ever not a walking advertisement for myself? Also I literally glow neon all the time. I don't really bother hiding. If I really need to, that's what Light-Shy is for." They grin. "Teagan said they'd take me out hunting for more leather, so I can supply that--just let me know how much it'd cost for the time put into it? Or if you wanna trade favors or something? I'm down with whatever." They pause a beat. "Also preferably something I can move around in easily, which I realize isn't really the best thing when you throw in skintight leather, but... I trust whatever judgement you decide to go with."

They look back to Artie, blinking as he blushes. "...Uhhhh... Kinda, I guess...? Based on that reaction, I'm gonna guess that's not your usual clientele. Which is fine! If it's something you're interested in trying out though, I'm always on the lookout for hot clothes." Their lips quirk as they listen. "I like how passionate you are about your art."

Sigrun Ljosdottir: "Oh, I am too. I'm not judging. I just wear black armor and a helmet, despite being an alabaster lamp of a person. Not that I hide much. I just try to make myself hard to hit. If you're fine with rainbow, I'll not judge." Sigrun resumes sharpening the second blade, putting most of her focus there. "How much are you willing to invest in the materials and all that, by the way? And how strong are you? I'll have to do some design work, and I try to design to budget and physicality as much as I can." She gives Artie a grin as he waxes poetic about his work, nodding her head in approval.

Aurelio Menegi: Seeing the young Wizened light up, both literally and figuratively, when talking about his craft brought a smile to Aurelio's face. "Agreed...is always good to see that passion in others."

Arthur Phoenix: "Oh...i... Er... I just like it when people are happy and free...and clothes help. Humans don't know any better but helping them find things that tell the world 'this is me!' Is super great." He says despite his flush.

"And uhm... I... I could try to make hot clothes. What ... Makes clothes hot?"

Teagan: "Usually it's how they accentuate the person inside them." Teagan is suddenly just there next to Sigrun, as though they've been there the whole time. Maybe they have: they sort of sum up the idea of 'benevolent stalker.'

Lux: "Uhh... average strength? I'm good at climbing and shit, but not... strong." They lift their rather lean arm to flex. Not much there. “As for budget... Umm... Probably not a super high budget. I'm broke, but I can steal stuff to pawn and get some cash, easy peasy. Or--well, I have a possible gig to paint a mural coming up soon that might pay a lot..." Their head tilts in thought. "But that's kind of up in the air right now, so I'd have to get back to you about that."

Lux blinks as Teagan appears, looking up to eye them a moment before huffing out a breath, grinning. "Hey Teagan."

Then to Artie, "That's about right, though. Sexy doesn't always mean half naked. Though, you know, personally I'm not against walking around half nude."

Sigrun Ljosdottir: "I am the exact opposite. If I'm not in a long skirt and a blouse, I feel naked. Except when I'm around home, anyway. I'm not used to being stared at. I don't like it." Sigrun hunches her shoulders up briefly, then resumes sharpening her blade. She is getting used to Teagan being a jerk with light shy, so she just pokes them in the ribs with the hilt of the blade she's sharpening. ENTIRELY BY CHANCE. "Oops. Didn't see you there." Ha. "I can work up a few designs for you at various cost levels. If you can find someone to pay for it for you, awesome. If not, I can pay for it once my queue has emptied out. I'm making armor for Laura and a sword for myself next. So."

Aurelio Menegi: Aurelio blinked in surprise at Teagan's sudden appearance, giving them a nod after the moment passed. "Aurelio. Good to meet you."

Teagan: "Hey, I'm Teagan," The Mirrorskin offers, and oofs when they're poked in the ribs, but only a little tiny bit because gosh someone made them the best armored coat ever and it doesn't hurt so much. "Oh no, that will surely teach me consideration," they deadpan, then lean down to kiss the corner of Sigrun's mouth. Their Summer Mantle rolls into the conversation right like they do: the smell of cooling asphalt after the sun goes down, the distant crackle of milspec radios, a burst of hot air. "Speaking of a total lack of consideration, can I pry you away when you're done talking shop? Please?"

Arthur Phoenix: Artie nods vigorously at Sig's comment. "It's weird when people look at you all at once. I don't like it either." He admits.

He too has become used to sudden Teagans so he doesn't jump but he does seem a little sullen. "Oh... Uhm... Then I guess I usually make sexy clothes. A lot of what I do during the week is make well fitting stuff that hugs or moves well on the people. It's usually suits or dresses cuz people think only expensive stuff has to be fitted." He shrugs.

"Oh you settled on a sword over an axe?"

Lux: Lux pauses and looks over at Sigrun contemplatively. It's clear the thought of a Bright One not wanting to be stared at is strange to them--but there's no judgment, at least. "A few designs would be rad. I'll let you know as soon as possible, but naw, there's no need for you to pay for it. I'll work something out."

They nod to Artie. "Then I'll definitely stop by sometime."

Sigrun Ljosdottir: "Yeah, I was just sharpening the blades in the armory." Last week she was patching the gambesons. Always a chore to be done! "I can keep going tomorrow, though. Or these nice folks can take over for me, maybe. Aurelio here makes Murano glass. He's a legit Venetian glassmaker. I already told him we're going to raid his shop for pieces for the house." Sigrun finishes sharpening her second blade and slides it back into its sheathe, setting it down with its finished twin. "Where are we heading?" Sigrun gives Lux a grin, "I didn't always used to look like this. People treat me differently now." A short, simple explanation for something that is probably a lengthy story better shared over drinks.

Teagan: "Word, no rush, whenever you're done, Significant," Teagan agrees, absently resting their hand at the small of Sigrun's back. And they seem to mean that. "Oh, cool. I'm assuming that's a very cool kind of glass?" A vague, brief smile toward Aurelio. "No offense meant. I'm an uneducated lout." They say this very casually, rolling their shoulders, and then tip their chin up toward Lux. "Sweet, y'all talked about your catsuit?" One corner of their mouth curls up. "I'mma definitely stalk that fitting. I mean, help out."

Aurelio Menegi: "None taken. It's specific to the city, or was for a long time. They used to have all of the makers live on one island in the lagoon and there were harsh restrictions from leaving the city, but a good bit of clout within it."

Lux: Lux nods to Sigrun, smiling reassuringly. "Oh. Well... you look great now! I'll try not to stare... too much." They wink, then smirk towards Teagan. "Yep! Sigrun said she'd do it. I'm excited. I'll get to look hot and badass." Their nose wrinkles, eyes narrowing playfully. "Who says you get to be around during the fitting, huh?" They blink over towards Aurelio. "What, seriously? That sounds awful."

Sigrun Ljosdottir: "The Venetians were the finest glassmakers of the Renaissance period. It's super cool that he's got that training. I'm totally going to try and pick his brain, but act like I'm not." Of course now the secret is out of the bag. She glances aside at Lux and lifts her eyebrows slightly. "I looked fine before. People just didn't stare at me about it." Sigrun then asides to Teagan, "But, yeah. I'm working on their catsuit."

Arthur Phoenix: Artie simply listens to the back nd forth banter, learning as the others simply discuss things.

Bending over, he retrieved his containers of food. "Well I'm gonna go set these up in the holow for people to eat after patrols. I'll be back in a bit."

Teagan: "Oh, word, word," agrees Teagan, nodding toward first Aurelio and then Sigrun when they are further educated. "That sounds like balls but I'm glad you have such cool training, at least." A snort at Lux. "How you gonna stop me if I want to be?" they answer, in the same playful tone, reflecting Lux's mannerisms back at them. "It's gonna look badass," comes their affirmation, finally. "Later, Artie."

Aurelio Menegi: "Was good meeting you, Artie." He nodded to the Wizened as they headed off, then looked back to the group. "It was done to prevent their secrets from leaving to competitors during the art's heyday. Mind you this was centuries ago; not so much of an issue when I was learning." He said with a small smirk, looking over to Sigrun at her comment. "It's been in my family for generations, and I've been proud to do my part to keep it alive."

Lux: "Ohh, got it." They nod to Sigrun, then pause to wiggle fingers at Artie. "See you."

They squint at Teagan. "...I don't know if I'm turned on or creeped out by that thought. ...Mostly turned on."

"Huh. So it's really that rare of a skill? Definitely will have to come check it out. Do you let people watch you work?" they ask Aurelio.

Sigrun Ljosdottir: "Yeah," Sigrun says in response to Lux 'getting it'. Whether or not they do, she's content to leave it at that. "Well, Aurelio, we'll be by to check your place out for sure." With that, Sigrun is hauling herself up to her feet and gathering up the finished blades to return them to the summer armory. "Shall we take a walk, Teabutt?"

Teagan: "That's pretty fucking cool, then," Teagan agrees in Aurelio's general direction, and then flashes a grin at Lux: it's quick, and sharp, like the glint of a knife caught by moonlight briefly. "On another day," they droll in the neon Bright One's direction. "Let's," they agree with Sigrun, looping an arm around her waist comfortably.

Lux: "See you two around," Lux says with a lazy wave as they head out. They eye the knife in their hand and tuck it away into the box of weapons, then roll up to their feet. "Not sure this is my thing--gonna head out too. It was nice meeting you, Aurelio. I'll stop by your studio sometime soon."

Aurelio Menegi: "Look forward to it. Was good meeting you all." With that he gave the departing Lost a nod and turned his attention back to the weapons at hand. Never a good thing to stop a job mid-way, after all.
