Finley's apartment

Log

By the time they get back to Finley's apartment, Calamity's black eyes are gone, as is the bruise that was spread across their cheek. A fast healer, indeed. About halfway back, they disentangled their hand from Fin's so they could hold onto their ribs.

The other hand, of course, is busy finishing off the pack of cigarettes they always seem to have - chain smoking at this point. They don't say a word, on the way back.

Finley let them go, staying quiet during the walk back. Once they get into the apartment, down the stairs, Finley stops to look to Calamity. "Let me look at your nose."

"Wh?" They frown, and pull away instinctually. "Why?"

Zher lip curls with annoyance. "Do you want it to heal straight or not?"

"...Don't really give a fuck, long's I can breathe out of it. 'S been broke before, hurt like hell to make it heal straight."

Finley's eyes narrow. "You don't want my help? Fine." Zhe steps back and stalks towards the bedroom.

"...Fin -" their face falls, and they recoil a little in surprise. "What's wrong?"

"Nothing is wrong," Finley growls, shoving the door to the bedroom open.

"Bullshit." Calamity's voice goes a little hard. "Never seen you like this before."

"Maybe it's because I killed two people for you," Finley says in a low, growling voice, turning to look back at them. "And you're acting like an ungrateful brat."

Calamity flinches away, crumpling under their gaze immediately. "I...I tried to get you to stop - I didn't want -" Their voice wobbles and they stop with a grimace.

"You didn't want what?" Finley steps closer, but it feels more like being stalked by a predator. "You didn't want to be best friends with a monster? Too bad. This is what I am."

"No - you didn't have'ta kill 'em for me -" the last word comes out as a choke sob. "An' - an' now you're different, somethin's different, an' it's 'cause'a bullshit that I dragged you into..."

"They deserved to die," Finley growls, stopping just in front of them, glaring. "Why are you upset?"

Calamity shrinks away. "'Cause I think it fuckin' broke you, an' it's my fault."

Finley pauses, eyes widening. "Broken?"

"You - somethin's different. You're actin'...mean. An' that's...it ain't you. You never been mean. Ever, to me."

Zhe stares for a moment, face falling briefly, because zhe growls again. "Then why don't you just leave?" zhe snaps. "Before you get broken too!"

"I broke a long fuckin' time 'fore we ever met." Their voice has gone...cold. "'F you want me t'leave you better take your key back, too, save you the trouble'a trackin' me down." They don't make a move to take it out of their pocket, but level their tired gaze at zhem.

"You want me t'leave, fuckin' say it like you mean it."

Calamity's coldness is met with another snarl, and then suddenly Finley is just... on them, throwing them down to the ground to pin there. Zhe growls down at them, gripping hard enough on their shoulders to possibly bruise. "Of course I don't want you to leave! You're mine, Calamity," Finley growls, those sharp teeth just inches away from Calamity's face. And throat.

"Fuck -" Calamity lets out a yelp of pain when Finley grabs them, and another when they hit the ground. Their nearly healed lip splits again, and tears well in their eyes. "Fin what the - whatthefuck -" They're breathless, their heart hammering in their chest, eyes wide with pain and fear.

"Get off me!" But it's not like they can struggle much, given the damage they've taken.

Finley doesn't reply, at first. Zher eyes focus on Calamity's lip as it splits, hand moving from their shoulder to brush zher thumb over the split slip, smearing the trace of blood across it.

Then zher eyes lift to Calamity's, pausing when zhe sees the fear there. Finley frowns and lets go of them, scrambling backwards.

They let out a quiet whimper when zhe touches their lip, and stays frozen, starting to tremble beneath them. When Finley finally moves, Calamity gasps for air, taking a moment to breathe before they lift their head to look at zhem, the fear practically rolling off them.

"How - what -" their heart is still beating wildly, but their face is pale. "D'you want me t'be afraid of you?"

"No," zhe whispers, scooting backwards a few more feet to put distance between them, then curls their legs up against their chest tightly. "I'm... I'm sorry. You... should go. It's not safe for you to be around me right now."

"What's - see that's the Fin I know, is...fuck. Nevermind I don't wanna make shit worse..." their voice is a breathless whisper, scared and in pain.

They have to hold onto the couch to pull themself to their feet, giving Finley nervous looks as they do.

Zher head lowers to bury zher face into zher knees, hands moving to cup over zher ears. "The beast... it's so loud... I can't think," zhe growls softly, fingers curling against the side of zher head. "Please, just... go away." A desperate whimper comes into zher voice.

"You...gonna be okay alone?" Their voice cracks with emotion.

"Just go, Calamity," zhe growls.

"...Okay."

Something clacks gently on the table, before they make their slow, painful way up the stairs.

The door shuts quietly, barely a sound at all.

And then they're gone.
