Maddy's Wafflehouse

Log

Anneliese Kiel: Having gotten off another late shift at her work, Annie is in the mood for food she doesn't have to cook herself, even to the limited extent of "remove from freezer and place in microwave". And Maddy's is a great place to obtain that, since she doesn't have to be too careful about what she says.

Jeremiah Hamilton: While he had technically come by for business - leaving a message for Maddy to talk about 'ordering' a particular tea blend for his own place of business that she often got for him on her travels - there was no way in hell that Jeremiah would leave without getting something from the fantastic kitchen. Thus Jeremiah had laid claim to one of the booths, dressed casually in dark jeans and a t-shirt but wearing it well nonetheless, looking at the menu through a pair of chunky black glasses as he mulled over what to order.

Diamond: Kayla comes into the dinner, heading toward Jay, raising her hand in greetings, she's dressed in a bright pink shirt and a darkly grey pencil skirt. She whistles along the way and slide into the booth. "Hi"

Anneliese Kiel: After a moment, Annie approaches the booth as well. "Mind if I join you two? I could use company to keep me awake right now."

Jeremiah Hamilton: Jeremiah looked up from the menu at Kay's approach, giving his cadremate a smile. "Hey." He then turned to Annie, giving a nod and making an 'after you' motion towards one of the free spots in the booth. "Fine by me. Jay, by the way."

Diamond: "I'm Kay, not this wasn't a planned thing." She smiles a little bit, tilting her head to the side to invite her in. She pluck the menu and looks over it. "What's your name?" a kind, warm smile.

Anneliese Kiel: "Annie. Pleasure to meet you, Kay, Jay." She takes a seat opposite Jeremiah, snagging a copy of the menu for herself. "Do you come here often?"

Jeremiah Hamilton: "Decent bit. Best waffles in the city, at the very least." He replied with a smirk. "You?"

Diamond: "Oh god she put in the Etiopian food in..." Her order is immediate after that. Kay smiles brightly. "I do come here when I can, I teach a few things to the owner and she does so too."

Anneliese Kiel: "Best waffles in the city," Annie grins. "Also the Green Forest omelette is excellent." She glances at Kay, then. "You like Ethiopian food, then? I have only had it the once."

Jeremiah Hamilton: "Haven't tried that one yet, I don't think..." He eyed that part of the menu briefly before going for the sweet tooth special that was the tiramisu waffle, looking back to the pair once his order was in. "Only had it once myself from here, but it was pretty good."

Diamond: "It's my ancestral home food, warms the heart." she place a hand over her heart and she drum her fingers on the table too.

Anneliese Kiel: "Ah, that makes sense," Annie nods. "The connection to your heritage can be invaluable." Glancing at the server, she requests a glass of water and the Green Forest omelette, before returning her attention to the others in the booth. "Did you grow up there, may I ask?"

Jeremiah Hamilton: Jeremiah remained quiet, barring asking for a cup of coffee for himself, letting Kayla answer the question posed.

Diamond: "No, I was born here, from Immigrant parents actually." She nods and smiles. "And it is!" Kay smiles "Where are you from?"

Anneliese Kiel: "What is now Germany, originally. That was a long time ago, though." Annie's smile fades. "Much has changed, in the intervening years. Most of it for the better, admittedly."

Jeremiah Hamilton: The mention of losing time made his eyebrow arch a touch, but the fading of Annie's smile fended off most of the questions that came to mind. Instead he simply nodded, his expression sympathetic without being pitying. "Nothing that fancy on my end, admittedly. Scottish immigrants that came here before the Revolutionary War and stuck around in Massachusetts after the fact."

Diamond: She grins a little bit there and shrug her shoulder. Her curiosity is piqued a little bit. "Hmm, I always forget the people that come here aren't usual." She looks to Jay with a raise of her eyebrow(edited)

Anneliese Kiel: "Really? I would have thought that would be one of the main draws of this location." Annie seems genuinely surprised. "There are many places to eat publicly where one has to watch their words, after all." She glances at Jeremiah then. "Massachusetts is to the northeast, yes? I am still learning the geography of this land."

Jeremiah Hamilton: Jeremiah gave his cadremate a curious look in kind. "That's part of why I come, other than the food being good in general. It's a nice place to just...be, in whatever way you can't be out in the wider world. Tend to get into some interesting conversations, too."

"It is, yeah." He nodded to Annie. "Grew up about an hour south of Boston, then was up and down the East Coast until college."

Diamond: "I come here for the coffee, the owner and the food." She chuckle, embarassed a little but, all good naturedly. Kay receive plate and take a few bite from it.

Anneliese Kiel: "Fair enough. It is good food," Annie admits, smiling slightly. "Are you affiliated with Maddy's organisation?"

Jeremiah Hamilton: Jeremiah smirked a touch, giving Kay a nod before looking back to Annie. "I am indeed."

Diamond: "So am I." Kay smiles "Jay and I are sort of part of a small unit together too."

Anneliese Kiel: "Ah, right. My side of the fence has those too, though I suspect we use a different name for them than you do." Annie shrugs slightly. "Not that I know all that much about your side. I only found out about it a week ago, after all."

Jeremiah Hamilton: "I haven't done a lot of co-mingling on that front either, admittedly...at least knowingly, anyway." Jeremiah nodded, claiming his cup of coffee from the passing waitress and doctoring it with a good bit of sugar before continuing. "Which side of the fence are you on, if you don't mind my asking?"

Diamond: Kay laughs a little bit and she looks straight at her phone for a moment, she put the phone face down and she keeps eating. "I think I'd like to co mingle with a Vampire, I'd like to meet one at some point."

Anneliese Kiel: "Oh, I am with the Freehold. Not a vampire, you will have to meet one of them another time." Annie arches an eyebrow at Kay's behaviour.

Jeremiah Hamilton: Jeremiah started to say something but paused at Kay's laughter, giving her a "really?" sort of look that nonetheless showed amusement on his part. "Not that kind of co-mingling...although I'm not one to judge without trying it first." He shook his head with a smirk, taking a sip of his coffee. "Freehold...not familiar with that set off-hand, I'll admit."

Diamond: Kay seems a little embarassed for a moment and roll her eyes. "I'm sorry my mind's been in a weird space lately, so I see things like that." She shrug her shoulder. "I met with one of yours recently, then. And I'll see a Vampire when I see a vampire, i'm not in a rush."

Anneliese Kiel: Annie shrugs slightly. "There are members of your set I would not be opposed to that kind of co-mingling with, to be fair." She pauses to take a sip of her water then.

Lethia Rose: As if summoned by the repetition of Vampire three times, Lethia Rose returns to investigate this strange spaceand acquire more waffles. Doing a small double take at the number of people, she smiles and waves to those assembled and exposes her fake fangs.

Jeremiah Hamilton: "Oh? Do tell. Can pass on a good word if you'd like." He replied with an oh-so-charming smile, then looked up to Lethia at her arrival and gave a polite nod. "Evening."

Diamond: Kay looks over her shoulders and then looks over to Jay, wondering just how he goes about that little conversation, she finishes eating her plate as she does so.

Anneliese Kiel: "I think she is already aware of my interest, but thank you anyway." Annie shrugs again, following Jeremiah's line of sight towards Lethia. "Hi."

Lethia Rose: "Evening!" Lethia approaches the group. "And hi there! Mind if I ask a quick question about this place? Do you know who owns it?"

Jeremiah Hamilton: "Fair enough. Figured I'd offer." Jeremiah nodded to Annie before looking back towards Lethia, a touch curious in his own right. "Her name's Maddy, but I don't think she's in at the moment. Needing help with something?"

Diamond: "Yeah that would be her." She nods to confirms Jay's information. "She's a pretty nice lady." She wipes at her mouth with a napkin. "She's here pretty often though, even if it's not now."

Anneliese Kiel: "What they said." Annie takes a bite of her omelette, chewing thoroughly and swallowing before she continues. "Is this your first time here?"

Lethia Rose: "Ah, no second time, and I was just wondering if she was a Mage?" Lethia asks, all curious innocence. "And where this waffle house actually is?"

Jeremiah Hamilton: "That's for her to say, and I...actually don't know, now that I think about it." He spared a brief glance out the window, smirking a touch before looking back to Lethia. "I know you can drive here, but I've only ever come in from the entrance in the city."

Diamond: "Pretty much the same answer." A shrug of her shoulders. "What's your name?" she asks the kindred, curious smile appearing on her lips.

Anneliese Kiel: "Somewhere on Earth, presumably." Annie shrugs slightly. "Do you mind if I ask why you want to know?"

Lethia Rose: "Curiosity mostly." She says with a shrug. "And my name is Lethia, what's yours?"

Jeremiah Hamilton: "Friends call me Jay. Good meeting you, Lethia."

Diamond: "I'm Kay." She return the answer with a bright smile. "Pleasure to meet you Lethia."

Anneliese Kiel: "Annie. Nice to meet you, Lethia." Annie pauses to take a sip of her water before continuing. "I take it you are not a Mage?"

Lethia Rose: "Jay, Kay, and Annie. No, I'm a vampire. Couldn't you tell by the fangs?" Lethia grins. And those are not the fake fangs she had on when she walked in. Those are definitely real fangs.

Jeremiah Hamilton: Jeremiah's eyebrows went up a touch at the sight of the proper fangs, followed shortly thereafter by a chuckle as he looked towards Kay with a smirk. "Well, there you go."

Diamond: Kay's eyebrow shoot up and there is a little surprised gasp "And here I was just saying that i'd like to meet one of your people."

Anneliese Kiel: Annie arches an eyebrow at the actual fangs. "Interesting. Do you know if those show up under an x-ray?"

Lethia Rose: "I have no idea. I don't think I show up on an x-ray enough for it to matter." Lethia smiles at Kay. "You were? Well, here I am! Mind if I sit?"

Jeremiah Hamilton: "Feel free." Jeremiah scooted over to give her room, grabbing his coffee to take a drink from it as he got settled.

Diamond: "Yes, I've heard several people mention the existence and it's piqued my interest quite a bit." she explains and leans onto the table. "And join us, I'd love to."

Anneliese Kiel: "Not at all," Annie answers. "You do not mind if we continue eating, do you? I have never met a vampire outside of my work." Beat. "That I know of, anyway."

Lethia Rose: Lethia slides into the offered seat with a nod of thanks to Jeremiah. "Nope, don't mind at all. I know how good the waffles here are. And you've probably met a couple, but just didn't know it." She faces Kay more and asks, "So, what about us has your interest?"

Jeremiah Hamilton: Speaking of waffles, Jeremiah's rather dessert-like order of a tiramisu waffle arrived as Lethia got settled, with the Warlock giving the staffer a smile before he politely began to tuck in. He let Kay answer the question, watching the exchange curiously.

Diamond: The Necromancer smiles, it's genuine and warm, she finishes her cup of coffee. "Honestly, the fact that I've been made aware of your existence only recently was a humbling experience and I've been curious about the nature of it since."

Anneliese Kiel: "Quite possibly," Annie shrugs in response to Lethia, before glancing at Kay. "We all have more to learn. No matter the field, there are always new things to discover."

Lethia Rose: "The nature, huh?" Lethia thinks for a moment. "Well, I drink blood, burn in the sun, don't experience bodily functions, and live basically forever. Unless you mean metaphysical nature, like, 'Do I have a soul', or 'What defines humanity'?"

Diamond: "Yes." Kay says with a soft nod. "I'm curious just about everything you just mentioned." she drum her finger on the table in a somewhat erratic rhythmn. "And I know, it's just sometimes, things evade your notice even when you look at them." that last part toward Annie

Anneliese Kiel: Annie shrugs again. "Some things you have to know to look for before you can see them." She glances at Lethia. "None at all? Not even emotions?"

Harmony: Mary is bright and cheerful on entry, and sweeps in wearing a sky blue dress, immediately kicking her shoes off at the door and picking them up before approaching the group. "Goooood evening!" Kay and Jay are both offered warm hugs and she smiles to Lethia and Annie. "Hey. Sorry for ambling in this way. I'm Mary."

Lethia Rose: "Well, we have some bodily functions I suppose. As for whether we have a soul or not, the short answer is 'Yes but.' And I'm not old enough to be able to know what defines humanity." Lethia admits quite candidly. "And hi Mary, we're discussing vampires. Care to join us?"

Jeremiah Hamilton: Jeremiah gave Mary a smile and a salute with his coffee cup as she headed in, returning the hug as best as one could while on the far end of a booth. "Been an interesting conversation so far."

Diamond: She welcomes Mary to the table with a warm hug, even scooting to the side to give her space to sit next to her, if she so wanted. "Hey Mary." She grins an then turn to Lethia again. "I was curious specifically about the soul part, among other things."

Anneliese Kiel: "Annie. Pleasure to meet you, Mary." She glances at Kay, then. "What are your views on the soul, if you do not mind my asking?"

Harmony: "Ah. Then you are.." Mary pauses, nodding at Lethia. "Well, it's good to meet you all." A light smile shows. "I'm, mm, souls are a very complex thing too. You'd know a lot there though Kay." She settles back in her chair, getting comfortable next to Kay. "I personally feel that if you can feel emotions, you have one, even if there are differences."

Lethia Rose: "The soul..." Lethia puts her chin in one hand. "Well, to start this long and convoluted explanation, I'm going to begin at the beginning. To be turned into a vampire, you have to die and then fed vampire blood. This draws the soul back to the body, but it also brings something else. After that, the soul is in a near constant state of conflict with that something else that could also claim to be the soul even if it is more predatory in nature."

Jeremiah Hamilton: And poit goes the Mastigos at that little tidbit. "That is interesting..."

Diamond: "My views is that the soul houses our potential and that there are act and events that can help shape it and make it into something else entirely." Kay smiles at the conversation and the turn it's taking, her eyes light up with curiousity and amazement. Though when Lethia starts explaining the process of the embrace, she seems to sober up just a touch, her curiosity tempered with something else. "That sounds like a terrifying ordeal." a beat. "I have the ability to look at someone's soul, would you allow me to do so on you?"

Anneliese Kiel: "How narrowly targeted an ability is that?" Annie asks pointedly.

Harmony: Mary nods slowly, eyes focused on Lethia as she explains. "This other entity, the one in conflict. Does it bind with the soul, do they mix, or do they just, ah, exist side by side? And does it mean you're tugged between two different natures?"

Lethia Rose: "I personally believe they mix and form something greater. And it's really just tugging towards a vicious nature, and trying to maintain your human nature." Lethia remarks. "I suppose it can be terrifying, but I rather enjoyed it. By all means, look away!"

Jeremiah Hamilton: Jeremiah sat back as he mulled that over, nodding quietly after a moment. "Must be a feat to keep that in balance over time."

Diamond: "The ability is targeted to the person I desire to look at" Kay points to Lethia in particular. "This means I will target her only" Kay reaches inside of her purse and withdraws a braid made out of glowsticks and twists it until it turns into a circle, she looks through the glowsticks donut and something must happen as she gasps, staring into Ash's very soul.(edited)

Anneliese Kiel: "Very well, then." Annie shrugs slightly, sitting back and finishing off her glass of water.

Harmony: A slow nod at Lethia's explanation and a glance at Kay as something's mulled over. She taps fingers on the table. "Mm." In agreement with Jay. "I guess the balance is staying where you want between the two?"

Diamond: "Oh, did you want me to look at you also?" She asks toward Annie, curious and tilting her head to the side. Kay grabs a glass of water.

Harmony: Mary grins thoughtfully, seizing up some orange juice for herself and looking Annie's way curiously.

Anneliese Kiel: "No. Just making sure you did not slip and forget the rules." Annie shrugs slightly, glancing at Mary. "Are you a migrant to this city as well, Mary?"

Diamond: "Hey I'm good at following rules." Kay pleasantly push her shoulder against Mary and smiles her way warmly, as if she'd know something about it. She stash the glowstick braid into her purse.

Harmony: She nudges Kay back, offering an impish smile in return to the mention of following rules, before looking to Annie. "Born and raised here. I had my eyes opened around seven years ago though. I'm not a vampire, mind."

Anneliese Kiel: "Well, that much I guessed, since you are having orange juice here," Annie counters. "I am not one either, obviously enough." She takes a forkful of her omelette then, as if to punctuate her words.

Diamond: "Yeah I never know what kind of information is going to get me in trouble." She shrug her shoulder there and sigh. "I've had my eyes wide open for like 17 years I think?"

Harmony: "Information often comes hand in hand with trouble." Mary muses philosophically. "But that's part and parcel of understanding." A light smile to Annie. "Fair enough. Are you, mm, one of us?" A quick glance to Kay.

Anneliese Kiel: "Oh, no, not any more than you two are part of my community. Unless you are hiding it for some reason." Annie arches an eyebrow at them then. "I am with the Freehold, I do not know if you are familiar with us?"

Diamond: She looks to Mary and smiles. "Dandelion and I work with one on a pretty important court case, A Lost, I think." She turns to Annie to see if the terminology is okay.

Harmony: "I'm still learning." She admits to Annie. "But we're not hiding, no." A nod to Kay as she explains about the Lost. "We're known as mages, or willworkers."

Anneliese Kiel: "Lost is the collective term. A single member of the community would be a Changeling." The mention of the court case gets a blink. "Is it the one relating to what the pigs pulled two weekends ago?"

Diamond: "Specifically, I'm a Necromancer, if that can explain my interest in vampires." A soft chuckle. And Kay nods at the question. "Yep. That is linked to that."(edited)

Harmony: Mary scowls. "I heard about that, yes. A lot of good people suffered needlessly. And I'm a Shaman myself, my focus is Life."

Anneliese Kiel: "Okay. Those terms relate to how you became mages, not your affinity groups within mage society, yes?"

Diamond: "Yeah pretty much." Kay adjust her sitting position so she's resting a little bit on Mary's side.

Harmony: She nods, patting Kay's shoulder lightly as she's leaned on. "It does deal with our grasp of magic too. Necromancer for understanding Death, Shaman for understanding Life. Both are equally valuable." She stage whispers. "But I love being able to sharpen my senses from time to time."

Anneliese Kiel: "Sharper senses can be useful," Annie admits easily, glancing between the two. "Are you both part of the same affinity group, or different ones?"

Diamond: "Different." Kay answers. "What about you? Is that safe for you to tell?" She asks a little curiously.

Harmony: "But we work together." Mary adds with a nod, before giving Annie a curious look herself.

Anneliese Kiel: "Oh, you two I can tell," Annie shrugs slightly. "Sleepwalkers, I believe Fox said the term was, can be at more risk, depending on the extent of their powers. Sleepers very rarely." She pauses to pour herself another glass of water. "To answer your first question, I am one of the Fairest, and a member of the Spring Court."

Diamond: Kay blinks once and seems to be a little confused for a moment. "Okay, thank you for the answer. I have no idea what any of that means."

Harmony: Mary's eyes widen and she beams. "You know Fox?" That clearly delights her greatly. "They're wonderful, yes." A keen nod. "But, also, mm, I'm not sure what those terms mean either."

Anneliese Kiel: "Ah, well. The courts are our affinity groups, and being Fairest is a reference to how I was reshaped, in my time Over There." A shadow passes over her face briefly. "And yes, I know Fox, though not especially well, as yet."

Diamond: Kay gives a little sideglance to Mary for a moment there, her eyebrow quirking along with a little smirk, she reaches up to poke her nose. "I met Fox in passing a few times."

Harmony: Mary grins at the poke, shaking her head wryly and musing quietly in Kay's ear before answering Annie. "I'm a member of the Adamanative Arrows. Warriors. And, yes, I know I might not entirely look the part." A quiet laugh.

Anneliese Kiel: Annie shrugs once more. "Being a warrior and looking like a warrior are not necessarily the same thing," she points out. "Especially in a civilian setting, like this one."

Diamond: Kay fans herself following the whisper in her ear, she rolls her eyes but never loses the smile. "My group is a little harder to define than that, we're a very local one." she explains summarily.

Harmony: "I like your group." She notes to Kay. "I might well have joined you if things had gone differently, but you already know that." She hands Kay a menu to help with the fanning. "And true." She smiles at Annie. "I know fighting, but more of what I do is to support and bolster others. I'm also partial to having a strong ability to heal."

Anneliese Kiel: "Healing is important," Annie nods. "I am a medical student out there-" she gestures to the windows "- and a novice healer amongst my community."

Diamond: The menu fanning gets hair into her mouth and she spends a few moment sputtering out and moving her hair backward with a loud laugh. "I'm planning on learning how to heal soon."

Harmony: "Mm. I need to spend more time with you and Maddy on that." Mary nods, grinning at the hair mess. "And that's the thing for me Annie. "I can heal any wounds, pretty much. Aside from rare ones of a supernatural nature. Even the most grievous. But I can't do that on Sleepers, or around them. I've a basic ability, but, I'm not even a student, so you'd outpace me there."

Anneliese Kiel: "Oh, well. If you want to learn mundane first aid, there are courses for that, I believe, even if you are not looking to be a full paramedic." Annie shrugs slightly. "I can only heal minor wounds supernaturally, not anything which would require visiting an emergency room. Yet."

Diamond: "Yeah I have more things to learn on that front." Kay drums against the table in some kind of rhythm "And yes, I'm still waiting on the framing of the picture of you who got licked by a cow."

Harmony: "I might look into that." She nods to Annie. "And I'm unsure how your blend of supernatural would work in relation to mine, but, it could be interesting to study, I..." She stops, cheeks going a little pink as she blinks and looks at Kay. "...I hate you. Hmph."

Anneliese Kiel: "I do not know either," Annie admits. "Exploring the interactions could be interesting, when we have the time." She pauses to take a sip from her water. "I think the only magic one of your community has worked on me so far was to make me luckier."

Diamond: Kay looks at Mary and for a moment, pout at her declaration of hatred but resume a normal expression following that. "That sort of magic's really handy but it's really out of my methodologies right now so I'm not sure how I'd work it in."

Harmony: "You can make it up to me later." She tells Kay wryly, nudging her. "And I suppose I should give Maddy the picture I took too once I have that framed." Annie's offered a considering look. "Hm.. the idea does appeal when we're both able. I'm curious as to the differences involved and what can be learned there."

Anneliese Kiel: "Could I get your contact details, then, so we can work out a time that fits both our schedules?" Annie asks, pulling out her phone. As she unlocks it and pulls up the contacts app, a rainbow magen david is briefly visible on the screen.

Diamond: Kay pulls her phone out of her purse and takes the contact information. "If you want my information too, just in case, here." her eyes catches the rainbow imagery on the phone and she smiles fondly.

Harmony: "Of course." She smiles, producing her own phone and offering up her number. "Time to study with you both would be good."

Anneliese Kiel: "I should warn you that my schedule can be rather tight," Annie says lightly as she adds their details to her phone. "Perils of attending medical school while working as a bartender to put myself through it."

Diamond: She chuckles at the texts and nods "pleased to have met you." she roll her shoulder. "I'm going to have to head home soon" (need sleep soon!)

Harmony: "That's fair. Hopefully we can sort something." She smiles, nodding at Kay. "Me too as well. But it was good to meet you Annie, and thanks for the conversation."

Anneliese Kiel: "Pleasure meeting the pair of you, too." Annie smiles at them. "I hope you get home safe."
