Lodge of the Children of the Three

Log

To say that Kay was shaken by their recent discoveries would be an understatement but they're here now, meditating, or at the very least trying to. Eyes closed, sitting cross-legged, hands resting palm up on their knees. They're wearing a set of yoga pants and a sports bra.

Moss grows where makeup would be, a flower grows in their hair, fingernails are made out of wood and magic is woven into their pattern, remnant of their recent travels to the underworld.

A deep breath, very deep, and their eyes open to the room.

Mary steps into the room, pausing as she sees Kay and smiling slowly, head canting as she takes them in. Dressed in plain leggings and grey t-shirt, she's far more subdued in appearance then the clothing she normally wears. Circling around Kay she adjusts the sword on her back and sinks to the floor opposite them, forming a mirroring mediation pose. "I'm fighting the urge to think of you as a dryad."

"That might be an apt comparison, I do have a favorite tree after all." A warm smiles blossom on their lips and their hand extend toward Harmony, quietly requesting hers to hold. "How are you doing?"

"I'd be lying if I said I wasn't rattled." She takes hold of the offered hand, entwining fingers with Kay. "The Abyss is growing, and.." A breath. "I can't help fighting the feeling it's hunting us."

They cling to Harmony's hand firmly, like it's keeping them from floating. "Would you allow me to cast a spell to peek into your future?" Kay asks, obviously their worries about the topic resurface clearly.

Mary raises her free hand, resting it against Kay's cheek. "My future, whatever form it takes, is yours. Yes, but." She hums quietly. "Did something happen to make you worry for me in particular?"

"I worry about a significant amount of things because of how I view the world, but with recent events being what they are?" A shaking breath follow "I worry about you specifically because you're in front of me." they lean into the touch as they trace some form of mudra against Mary's hand and with their other hand, withdraws the little diamond-shaped wood piece they often cast with, from the purse next to them.

"The future isn't fixed Kay, we both know that. Seeing the forms it can take means we can guide it, to a degree. And seeing the forms it didn't take, but could have, solutions in timelines that never were.. When there are infinite options, they are infinite possibilities when we both make it. Where everyone else we care about makes it with us." She closes her eyes as Kay focused on her casting.

It takes more than one attempt (two) for Kay's magic to function, their first attempt resulting in a mild, momentary headache "Wow, yeah the paradox just hit me in the face." a shake of their head, as if shaking off. Their second attempt functions, revealing the future.

"I'm getting a metric ton of questions, by the way, if you have any about your future, do let me know." a smirk.

Time's a complicated thing. How much strength does a potential future hold? Enough that for a moment, Kay exists in one with a future version of Mary. Albeit only a few moments into one possible future.

"I know Fate, better then Time. But, I gather this is a peek into my future, which arguably means only you will remember any of this? Don't answer that, it'll make my head hurt. What questions did you have?"

"Oh you have no idea about your head hurting"

They thought, amused by the sheer scope of her questions, she peers into the future and possibilities of having that conversation with Mary, bravely peeling away at the layers that obscure the answers.

"I was visited by a future version me, to warn me about seers de-stabiliziing our timeline to stop us from victories earned in the future. Victories earned in a war, not like we are now, all out war, against them. We were winning, I was told, but they came to this timeline to remove our victories."

Mary grimaces. "Yup. Headache. I know enough to know that's dancing on serious Paradox. They came back because they're losing. But if they stop that from happening, they have no reason to have come back. So they're desperate." She frowns. "And if your future self came back.. you're caught up in it. Now, you only know about what they're doing because you came back to try and stop what they're doing." A slow exhale. "And even if we try to prevent them having come back.. we're only doing that because they did. ...Fuck."

"It starts with Balm's trying to ascend to her golden road." she replies, using another few of their questions "So it starts soon. It start then" a shake of her head "I know Fox got visited, I know Master Yoshitsune is in that fight too." a deep sigh again, clearly this is hard on Diamond too. "I don't think they meant 'winning' against the local seers only either"

"Its dangerous, it brands us criminal, but if we win? If we finally find a way to free the world from this jail? Does it matter?"

Mary purses her lips, thinking. "It matters when it comes to the cost. If this Paradox grows, it could risk everything. You need to step very, very carefully my love. Because this Paradox? I'm worried it might resolve itself by erasing everyone tangled in it." She tugs Kay closer. "Even worse, though, that's bad enough for me, it could damage timelines. I don't know for sure, I'm not a Time mage at all, but, Fate. Fate I.." She stops, lips parting. "Fuck. Fate. I think that could be a possible solution. What if they'd always come back, the Seers? What if us winning the war is, in fact, caused by them trying to prevent it? Destiny. If you can shape Fate enough, if you can trap them in one that's self fulfilling, maybe it'll mean their own defeat was caused by their actions. I don't know if that'd contain the Paradox, but.." She winces. "My hope is that it would, and that it'll protect you from it too."

"They can't keep getting away with rigging the game and then pretending they won fair and square." Kay makes the statement with a bit of fire "They almost destroyed the Tree by just removing 1 conversation from the timeline and that wasn't even them trying hard, we have to fight back somehow, the cost are potentially high, but I think if enough people are with us, enough people like you, who care, we can figure out a way to win." another sigh as the number of questions grows thinner.

"Kay." Mary leans in, eyes half closed. "I will stand with you. I always will. You need to decide how much to tell me. But, no matter how much, or how little, you do, I'm with you. We need to defeat them, but in a way that doesn't do the damage they don't care about. And I think we're capable of that."

"Do you have any question for your own future Mary?" Kay asks pulling themself out of the spell-induced dream sequences. "I got one left, I... asked a lot more than what I anticipated I think." They take a deep breath, leaning in forward to kiss Mary's forehead, waiting for the asnwer to that question.

"Be careful of the Paradox." Mary warns with a frown, resting a hand on Kay's shoulder as they kiss her. "And a question to ask myself.. I don't know." A rueful laugh. "Wait, hm. Ask her, what she thinks the most important thing for her to tell me is?"

"It's a divination spell, Mary, I don't think an acamoth is coming for my face for asking questions in a safe way." Kay makes the statement with a little chuckle and with that, they ask the question to the spell "What does future Mary think is the most important thing to tell her present self?"

Future Mary grins. "To make sure to fucking keep you safe, dummy. But she'll.. I'll, already know that, of course." TheUserWin - She/They — Today at 4:06 PM "To make sure to keep me safe, apparently, and you think I'm a dummy for asking too." Kay giggles cutely, leaning forward to kiss her nose. "Also, I think we might need to have conversation somewhere private, if you don't mind?"

"You peeking into my future wasn't?" She grins. "And, should have seen that answer coming." A quick kiss to Kay in turn. "I do not mind. Lead on, and I'm all for that."
