The Seeker of the Flow

The Aeolians see the winds as symbols of enlightenment, and thus are constantly seeking not only knowledge to know but to understand. Like the blowing winds they travel far and wind, and flit from interest to interest as they search for those things deeper than mere fact: the Truth. Like Wind, it doesn’t exist in stillness; Enlightenment must be shared with the world or it is purposeless. The Tamers of Winds serve as the lore keepers and secret finders of the Elemental Mysteries, if you can get them to focus on learning one thing for long enough.

Prerequisites: Forces 2, Occult 2, 3 dots among the following Skills: Academics , Science, Expression, Crafts

Initiation: The Tamers of Winds have no fixed criteria for recruitment, and most take on a protege based on the prospective Tamer’s desire for Understanding. Young professionals are the group most commonly recruited from, but any Awakened of significant skill with the means and desire to learn and discover might be invited. Potential new members are sent a letter, video, or other piece of information media with all obvious signs of the identity of the sender obscured. The missive explains the philosophy of the Legacy and the expectations of new members, as well as instructs the recipient to find the sender. Upon doing so, the new member is inducted.

Yantras: Presence of a steady, moderate breeze (+1); success in an Occult roll (+2); ink, radios, internet streams, and/or other representations of the spread of information (+2); sharing a truth or factually correct piece of information (+1, +2 if the information is secret or potentially dangerous to be shared)

Oblations: Dis- and reassembling a blu-ray player or streaming box, keeping a perfect journal of a day, spending an evening helping expand wiki articles, leaking local government secrets.


Attainments

First Attainment: The Wind Whispering in Your Ear

Prerequisite: Initiation

The Wind carries many secrets to those who listen, and Aeolians listen harder than anyone. The Tamer with this Attainment can hear above and below the range of human hearing, from the rumbles elephants use to communicate to the chirps of ultrasound machines. The duration of this benefit moves up the Advanced Duration chart for every dot of Forces except the first, and due to being able to hear things others can’t, gives a bonus similar to the Danger Sense merit equal to 1+ every two dots of Forces, as well as a +2 to checks related to naturally occurring sounds outside the range of human hearing (Survival or Science for weather or geological events, Survival or Animal Ken for animal communications, etc). This Attainment resembles the "Receiver" spell, except it can only benefit the Tamer, with the Reach assigned to Advanced Duration.

Optional Arcanum: Mind 1

The Wind hears all things, and when beckoned can remind an Aeolian of what they already know. The Tamer can remember with perfect clarity a number of things they’ve perceived, even if they weren’t actively paying attention, equal to their Mind dots. This Attainment replicates the "Perfect Recall" spell, with Reach assigned to instant use.

Second Attainment: The Wind on Your Lips

Prerequisite: Forces 2, Occult 3

Sound is the information most readily carried by wind, and a Tamer of Wind may manipulate this information, doubling or halving the sound in an area one step for every two dots of Forces, plus one. The area affected can be up to a large house or building, and the duration of the change moves up the Duration Table for every Forces dot after the first. The Attainment functions as “Control Sound”, except the Tamer cannot alter the tone of sounds or “steal” sounds to listen in on something. Reach is as assigned to Advanced Scale and instant use.

Optional Arcanum: Mind 2

A Tamer of Winds can manipulate the flow of thought in their own mind, becoming capable of performing two Mental or Social actions at the same time as long as both actions have no purely physical components. The duration of this benefit moves up the Advanced Duration chart for every dot of Forces except the first, and emulates the "One Mind, Two Thoughts" spell, with Reach assigned to Advanced Duration and the ability to take two Instant non-physical actions at the same time.

Third Attainment: Summoning the Four Winds

Prerequisite : Forces 3, two dots in a second Skill among the initiation Skill list

Aeolians may guide the Wind to physically help or hinder the motion of their surroundings, doubling or halving the current speed of an object or being up to Size 5 one step for every dot of Forces. If a colliding vehicle or projectile weapon is under the effect of this Attainment, the collision or impact adds the Mage’s Forces dots to the weapon rating of the vehicle or weapon. The duration of the change moves up the Duration Table for every two Forces dot, plus one. This Attainment replicates the "Velocity Control" spell, with Reach assigned to Instant use.

Optional Arcanum: Mind 3

Truth is universal, and thus the Aeolians come to understand it in all its forms. They duplicate the "Universal Translator" spell except it only affects the Tamer, and grants 9-again to mundane checks where perfectly understanding a language would grant additional insight (Academics, Empathy, or Politics checks being prime examples), and the Reach is assigned to Advanced Duration, meaning the duration moves up that table for every dot of Mind after the first.

Fourth Attainment:Thought Born on Wind

Prerequisite: Forces 4, Three dots in one of the Legacy requirement skill list.

The Wind becomes the hands, the arms of the Tamer, their control extending to the physical realm to lift and move with the power of thought. The Strength, Dexterity or Speed of this force may be raised to the Tamer’s Forces dots, chosen at activation; the other statistics are at 1. The duration the force can be wielded moves up the Advanced Duration chart for every two dots of Forces. This Attainment resembles the "Telekinesis" spell, and Reach is assigned to Advanced Duration and changing the primary factor to Potency.

Optional Arcanum: Mind 4

Enlightenment unshared is useless; Wind that is captive is not Wind. The Aeolian may share their thoughts with others by forging a link between minds for a day. The number of subjects affected is at most 10, and all subjects must be touching the Tamer of Winds when the Attainment is activated. Subjects gain a bonus on skill rolls to intuit or emote to each other equal to the Tamer’s dots of Mind, and a penalty to rolls to deceive each other. This Attainment replicates the spell “Telepathy”, with Reach spent for Advanced Scale, Advanced Duration, and to allow all subjects to send and receive thoughts.

Fifth Attainment: The Soul of Wind

Prerequisite: Forces 5, Occult 5

Buoyed by the Wind that emanates from their soul, Aeolians become able to fly as their physical mastery of Wind becomes complete. They may move freely through the air, retaining their Defense and making Dexterity+Athletics checks to avoid obstacles as normal, with a Speed of their Gnosis+half their Forces dots+1.The duration of this benefit moves up the Advanced Duration chart for every dot of Forces except the first. This Attainment replicates the “Levitation” spell except it can only affect the Tamer and can be activated as an instant action, and the Reach is assigned to Advanced Duration and true flight.

Optional Arcanum: Mind 5

Open to the Truth of Wind, information constantly flows through the mind of an Aeolian, and by directing this internal Wind, the Tamer can channel the source of understanding. Known by many names, the Soul of the World, the Aetheric Record, the Root of Knowledge, by tapping into this purest Wind, the Aeolian can add 3 dots (as Potency) to their rating in a Skill they already have dots in, even above their normal cap on Skill values. The benefit can last for up to a year or until the Aoelian spends another Instant action to reactivate the Attainment and choose a different skill. This Attainment replicates the “Enhance Skill” spell but can only affect the Tamer, with Reach spent to allow ratings to go above cap, Advanced Duration, and instant use.
