Emissary of Renewal

Under the shadow of The Underworld tree, lies a rotten fruit from the Martyr’s Tree, in the darkest shadow of the darkest place, you can find what was lost, but you can’t recognize it. Breathe in the cloud, can you feel your heart burning? Can you feel the struggle within your soul? The fear within me is beyond anything a mundane soul can make. You cannot kill Truth in a way that matters - Inspired by Tumblr user Personsonable

History

In the Underworld, there is another presence from the Martyr’s Tree. Its fruits are rare and prized for the Mysteries and knowledge that it can bring. The history of the Legacy is nascent and vibrant. The mage travelled the darkness of the Underworld, in search of answers about her awakening, about the knowledge that was lost, forgotten, due to the fumbling steps of her youth. Upon reaching the glade of the Martyr’s Tree in the Underworld, she found a field of rotten fruit beneath the shadows of its branch, rings of luminescent mushroom, spores clinging to the trunk of the underworld tree.

The mage and her companion laid down for a rest amidst the glade, protected by the looming presence of the tree. There she laid, her dreams perfected, the shades’ whispers refusing to leave her to her slumber. The lessons imparted from her dreams, she took a long, meditative look at the mushroom and realized the Truth. The Fruit were not lost, they simply died and returned through death and now lived within the mushrooms, just like the fruit she consumed at her awakening wasn’t lost, it was just transformed into something else. Transformed by the realization, she took it upon herself to take the lesson to her soul and change her very being with it She beseeched the gleaming mushroom through death and life, drawing their wisdom into her soul in the form of a soul-rattling cloud of spores, altering her magic, altering her soul with the wisdom thought lost forever. (definitely something that will get updated when it happens IC to reflect the events)

Origins

Parentage: Moros or Children of the Tree

Nicknames: Mycologists

Background: The Legacy could draw anyone interested in restoring lost knowledge in new forms. Bringing new life to old methods. Relearning old, lost knowledge and modernizing it.

Appearances: The Sporelings don’t have a uniform, but they tend to favor a blending of style of old and new, sometimes to the point of strangeness.

Doctrine

Prerequisites: Life 2, Death 2, Empathy 2 and one of the following skills at 2: Science, Occult

Initiation: The applicant studies the soul of their tutor while under the effect of a specially prepared mixture of hallucinogenic mushrooms and other various poisonous or rotten fruit. As the mixture causes them to lose consciousness or if they resist the effect, be put under a sleeping effect by the tutor where they will experience the Spores invading their dreams and thoughts from under the branches of the Martyr’s Tree. Where they experience a piece of lost history, lore or knowledge and process it down into their soul and being in a completely different manner. Failure causes a point of resistant aggravated damage that completely refills the applicant’s pool of Potentia. They may attempt it again once the resistant aggravated damage has healed.

Organization: Obsessed with messages as they are, Pathfinders communicate with hidden messages in just about every form of media accessible. White noise in radio broadcasts, the midnight channel in television, and innocuous random posts in internet forums - all those things are a useless for most, but the Sphinxes display an uncanny ability in using them to communicate with each other and host gatherings.

Theory: What was lost can be regained, what needs to be understood is that its form might be changed. Sometimes the things lost are too alien, too different from the world to return to it on their own, through the natural cycle of things, to succeed at the Blooming is to understand that change, adaptation, is needed.

Magic

Ruling Arcanum: Life

Yantras: Speaking in a dead language +1, Eating a mushroom or a fruit +1 +2 if eaten with the seeds/if poisonous or rotten, Gardens +1 (+2 if harvesting from it), Burial +1 +2 if the burial is for a person

Oblations: Planting flowers on a grave, Speaking with a ghost, Being poisoned by a natural toxin

Attainments

First: The Soul Spores

Prerequisites: Initiation
The Sporeling’s Nimbus changes on a fundamental level upon breathing the soul spores, it may resemble the previous one or it may be entirely different. The result is almost always somewhat vegetal in theme.

It’s not only a cosmetic change, it’s an empowerment. Add the Sporeling’s dots in the Life Arcana to the available number of bonus or penalties you can craft the tilt with. The Sapling can spend one mana and make one instance of her active nimbus tilt last for the scene. Once per story, the sporeling can spend a WP to change their nimbus tilt.
Optional: Death 2
The Mage can see through the lens of her new nimbus with an eerie clarity. Whenever someone she physically touches or is affected by her nimbus tilt within her line of sight, she can use an instant action to peer into their soul directly, to see the root of their being. This function as the Soul Marks spell with the Instant Cast reach applied.

Second: The Dispersal

Prerequisites: Life 2, Empathy 3
While targeting someone is affected by the Sporeling’s nimbus’s tilt or carrying their signature nimbus, the Sporeling can use Life spells at sensory range with a cost of 1 mana instead of using a reach..
Optional: Matter 2
Through the lens of her nimbus, the sapling is capable of analyzing objects that carry her Signature Nimbus for a length of time equal to their ritual interval and understand the knowledge and soul that was put into them, the intent behind them. This function as the Craftsman’s eye spells with advanced duration & the 8-again reach

Third: The Germination

Prerequisites:Life 3, Empathy 4
The Sporeling’s soul starts growing and permeating her body more actively, making it particularly easy to tap into the deeper reserve of the soul and makes it less damaging than it is for others to do so. Add the Sporeling’s Life dots to the number of times per day they can scour their pattern for Potentia. Furthermore, by spending a point of willpower when they scour, they can reduce the ill side effects: Scoured attributes only last for a scene.
Optional: Death 3
Because the soul is so present in the Sporeling’s body now, it’s much harder to affect than usual. This function as the Soul Armor spell in an instant casting and has advanced duration.

Fourth: The Growth

Prerequisites: Life 4, Either Occult or Science at 4
The Sporeling's awakened soul suffuses the body thoroughly and makes short work of the usual limitations between them. Add half the Sporeling's Life dots (rounded down) to the number of Mana per turn that can be spent and increase their maximum reserve by twice the number of dot in the Sporeling's Death Arcana.

.
Optional Matter 4
The Sporeling’s body is filled with the ebb and flow of her awakened soul and it makes it possible for her to manipulate her body and change the size by expanding or lowering her size. This function as Shrink and Grow but only on herself and carried items. (Instant casting, Advanced Duration reach) .

Fifth: Harvesting the Mycoid

Prerequisites: Life 5, Either Empathy, Persuasion or Science at 5

The Sporeling's awakened soul is well and truly alive and it's very difficult to cause lasting damage on them. So much so that portioning it off to create a soul stone is easier, safer for them. Creating a Soul stone no longer limits potential gnosis growth. It's also much easier on the mage creating it, instead of expending a dot, the Sporeling can spend a point of willpower and 1 point of potentia to create it.

Creating a soul stone does not limit gnosis potential as the Sporeling’s awakened soul is well and truly alive and will heal the portioning off of their soul readily. It’s also rather easy to make a soulstone and instead of a Willpower dot, the Sporely can spend a point of Potentia to create one with a point of willpower instead.
Optional Matter 5
The Sporeling’s impart a small portion of his awakened soul into an object and gives it a facsimile of life in the process and may even decide to impart a ghostly entity within the object if one is available. This function as the Golem spell with the Advanced Duration and instant casting reach applied.
