Bloodline Gift

With little effort a Link may figure out to whom an individual connects to in the vicinities. All the bonds show like bloodied smears on the floor, and all relationships unearthed are colored by the target's impressions, not the absolute truth. Someone the Link will see as a lover might not love the target back, and wish her ill, for example. This Gift shows only 'one-step' relationships, and won't show the daughter of a target's mentor, unless the connection is enforced through vitae: anything the target has blood sympathy or Bonds with shows clearly to the Link.

Bloodline Bane

The Lynx's Beast is a social creature of a different magnitude than other Kindred's. It needs to belong, and it needs to be part of something. It cannot thrive alone. The Lynx's player picks a group she belongs to: her Covenant, Clan, Coterie, Mystery Cult, etc. This group must have at least two other Kindred to be considered enough to sate her Beast's appetite for connection. This devotion is represented through the devotion and obsession of a Blood Bond towards the organization. Any character in that organization enjoys the mechanical benefits of this pseudo-Bond. The Link isn't infatuated by any particular group member but her dedication and obsession can certainly be mistaken as such. At Blood Potency one the Lynx is considered to be in the First Stage of this Bond. At Blood Potency three the Lynx is at Stage Two, and after Blood Potency 5 she is at Stage Three.

Devotions

Web of Secrets (Auspex ••)

Auspex is the Discipline that exposes secret weaknesses. Web of Secrets further enhances Uncanny Perception, allowing a Lynx to exploit the nature of a target's connections. The following questions provide samples a player may ask when activating the previous powers to understand a victim's relationship with social groups, families, lovers and servants.

Sample Questions:

  • Why does my target love her Childer? The image of bloodied baby shoes. The Childer's reflection as seen from behind a broken mirror.
  • What could my target's son do that would hurt him the most? The smell of gunpowder in young, trembling hands. The sight of a broken Christian cross on the sidewalk.
  • What are my target's feelings towards her Covenant? The cooling feeling of a balm applied to a nasty, aching wound. The feeling of empowerment and the sensation of holding one's gun firmly.
  • What does my target expect of me? The warm beating of a passionate heart. The image of a young lion prowling around an old one.

Realigning The Threads (Obfuscate ••, Majesty •••)

Connections are powerful things and a Link can rearrange them temporarily to her own benefit. When a Lynx vampire uses Realigning The Threads she picks a target and a relationship the victim has: for the duration of this Devotion she can redefine that connection almost entirely. This powerful Devotion is kept a secret from other vampires, for if they knew such power existed it might be the end of the bloodline.

 Cost: 2 Vitae, 1 Willpower

Dice Pool: Intelligence + Socialize + Obfuscate vs. Composure + Blood Potency

 Action: Instant

 Failure: Nothing happens.

Success: The power works as described. A loving couple can be made to hate each other, and a raging enemy can be made to shake in fear at the source of their former ire. The effects last for a scene. This Devotion cannot redefine powerful supernatural bonds such as the Blood Bond and may be resisted by Lashing Out.

Exceptional Success: The effects last a night.

Strumming The Strings (Auspex •, Majesty •)

The vampire picks a connection she wants to stirs in her victim, either heightening them to a fevered pitch or blunting them until the target is completely desensitized. The Kindred doesn't create new emotions; she may only amplify or dull emotions already present in the target, either naturally or created through Realign The Threads. In this way, a vampire can inflame mild irritation into quivering rage or atrophy true love into casual interest.

 Cost: 1 Vitae

Dice Pool: Manipulation + Empathy + Majesty vs. Composure + Blood Potency

 Action: Instant

 Failure: Nothing happens.

Success: A current emotional state is severely dampened or blown out of proportion, inflicting a Condition upon the target as suggested below. The effects are artificial and only last a scene.

Exceptional Success: The effects last a night.

Possible Conditions:

  • Anger may be turned into Tempted or Spooked.
  • Fear may be turned into Scarred or Inspired.
  • Disgust may be turned into Fugue or Obsession.
  • Happiness may be turned into Steadfast or Jaded.
  • Desire may be turned into Wanton or Jaded.

This Devotion costs 1 Experience.

Cleansing The Node (Celerity ••••)

All things come to an end, all relationships end and all emotion fades. The Lynx understand this and they may hasten the process, undoing any outside corruption of one's connections. This Devotion is employed to undo any supernatural power that can be ended.

 Cost: 1 Vitae, 1 Willpower

Dice Pool: Wits + Socialize + Celerity vs. Resolve + Blood Potency

 Action: Instant

 Failure: Nothing happens.

Success: The Lynx undoes one Condition, Blood Bond, Oath or other sort of supernatural influence that ties one character to another, provided these are finite in nature. Whoever corrupted the connection in the first place is aware her influence has ended.

Exceptional Success: The Lynx is aware of who corrupted the natural connection, if she wasn't before.

This Devotion costs 2 Experiences.
