Maddy's Wafflehouse

Log

Klaire Henriette: Klaire was sitting at one of the booths, petting Rook. She sat a little...differently than normal, it was hard to place. A bit more open? She had this smile on her face as she pet Rook that seemed a bit out of character. Klaire? Happy and enjoying herself? That wasn't allowed!

Thespis: Thespis walked in wearing suit pants, white shirt and a red suit jacket, just getting some food in before work. He gave Klaire a polite nod upon seeing her as he ordered coffee and waffles.

Kenzie: Kenzie makes her way in not long after Thespis. Her hair free today dressed in a simple shirt and loose jeans that hang low on her hips with white shoes. She has her bag with her today as she makes her way to a table and sits and orders a plate of sausage.

Klaire Henriette: Klaire's smile fades slightly as Thespis appears, and can't recover much as Kenzie enters, leaving her with an uneasy smile. She waves to the pair. Positive...smile...we can try.

"Care to join me?"

Thespis: Thespis walked over with a smile, "Sure, wonderful morning isn't it?" He said sitting down, offering Rook a hand if he wanted pets, "Are you feeling better?"

Kenzie: She wasn't sure who the invite was for, but she felt the unease as she watched Thespis and Klaire. When the sausage plate comes, Operation test Rook came to fruition, as she holds one low for the dog in attempt to lure him over. "Morning." She offered at least.

Klaire Henriette: Rook was well trained, and didn't go for the sausage, looking at Klaire first. Klaire debated for a minute, she had another half finished plate of sausage here already...but fine. She nodded and Rook snuck over. Sorry Thespis, food is more important than pets!

"Please don't feed him the entire thing. He will have an awful stomach ache later."

She looks at Thespis, conflicted in what to say, but finally settled on a simple.

"I'm doing well." A pause. "Although Fate seems to be testing me this morning."

Thespis: He chuckled at that, "It seems to be giving you plenty of trials." He offered, acting like he never tore her apart word by word, "Adversity breeds strength and resolve, embrace the trials and overcome." He sipped his drink

Kenzie: She grins a bit and feeds rook only one in total before giving him all the love he deserved. "Oh, the rest is for the other dog over there when you get sick of him, I can lure that one away." She teased Thespis before adding. "Constructive criticism goes much further than being a dick though. If you have to be a dick to make your point, its not a point worth making."

Klaire Henriette: "I am at- I am trying my best to overcome that adversity. I would prefer to be called Psyche for today if you two don't mind."

She gives a small smile.

"Kenzie is right, theres a point where criticism becomes cruel."

We wouldn't know what that was like, would we.

Thespis: He winced a bit and looked at his coffee, "Yeah, kinda over did it." He admits, "I. . .am not the most gentle warlock and I find the more I'm invested in someone's growth the more I get. . .well, antagonistic."

Kenzie: She makes her way over to their table and sits next to Psyche, she looks Thespis over, hands on the table. "She, is, not, a, cadremate. She, is, not, your, pet, project. She, is, not, your, responsibility. Unless she fucking asks you, keep your shit to yourself." She takes a deep breath after that and orders Aloha Pancakes and OJ.

Klaire Henriette: "I spoke with Sirius after, he helped get me back on my feet. You are not the most gentle warlock, no, but you did have points. As much as I hated hearing them."

She offers a hug to Kenzie.

"Thank you for having my back."

Thespis: Thespis winced at each word and played with his waffles with his fork, sipping his coffee, "Yeah I'm.. .fuck I'm sorry Pysche, it was less a place of pet project and more wanting to give a. . .friend a push, I shouldn't have said anything."

Kenzie: "Friends are gentle. When it's time for harsh you do an intervention." She hugged Psyche back. "You think you need an intervention yet?" She teased. "Im pretty sure I do."

Canary Quill: While this tense and awkward conversation continues, a certain Lost Boy strolls through the entrance portal to Maddy’s. Putting in her usual order of way too much coffee and some plain pancakes with syrup and butter, she walks over to the table with a few familiar faces. “Kenzie. Klaire. And… I swear we’ve met but I don’t remember your name. Mind if I join you? I don’t want to interrupt anything.”

Klaire Henriette: "I think you need to work on your pushes. I'd ask Sirius for advice on that front, but that's me. Opening with 'you need thicker skin' is likely not the best tactic."

She smiled at the hug from Kenzie.

"Why not...what intervention do I need?"

A look up at Canary joins.

"Hello Canary...Argus? Which would you prefer to use? I'm Psyche right now, not Klaire. Im fine with you joining."

Thespis: Thespis sipped his coffee giving the new comer a nod, "I'd suck at an intervention." He fully admits

Arthur Franklin: Not long after Canary's entrance to the diner Arthur made his way in through the portal, dressed neatly if casually in dark jeans, boots and a grey t-shirt. Those unable to see through the Mask would find his face a picture of placid pleasantness, Customer Service Mode writ large as he scanned the diner to see who was about. Spotting the quartet at the table he gave a beaming smile along with a nod. "Good morning!"

Kenzie: She smiles to Canary sweetly. "Hey beautiful. Would love to have you." She laughs happily to Psyche. "Thats my point, you don't. Thespis is simply being melodramatic. Hollywood runs in his blood. He is all theatrics and bad TV tropes." She teased. She eyes Arther and up nods casually.

Canary Quill: Canary shrugs at Psyche's question. "Psyche. Got it. I don't particularly mind one way or the other, but I'm not on the clock or anything." She takes a seat with the fellow Sleepwalker and two Mages.

Klaire Henriette: Psyche nods. There's a pause of consideration. Its very...not Klaire.

"He is, yes. But Thespis does also attempt to push people in what he thinks will help them. He is ambitious and lets that get the best of him sometimes, but he does care."

She sits back, then turns her head quickly right as Arthur enters, blinking, then turns back around. Its probably a bit concerning for Arthur.

"Good morning."

A nod to the other Sleepwalker

"I'll stick with Argus for now then. How is the Armory doing?"

Thespis: Thespis smiled at her words, he was in the wrong but she saw why he did it at least, then his phone rang

"Yeah, Phil I'm on my way to the office why are you. . .what, Gina is...good God man why are you at the agency, no shut up, I'm on my way, you are not missing your first born-" he got up and took his coffee, "I need to go," he says to the table, "The fuck are you even calling me for, get your ass to the hospital, stop crying!"

Arthur Franklin: The look from Psyche earned a slight quirk upward of the eyebrow from the Wizened, although it faded as soon as it came. He stepped aside to let Thespis pass on his way to the portal, looking over the remaining trio. "Mind if I join you?"

Kenzie: "Its fine to care. Its great to care. Its not ok to say -Psyche, those pants are looking a little tight- though. Good intentions pave the road to hell." She watches Thespis go and others take his place. She motions with her hand for Arthur to sit.

Canary Quill: Canary nods at Psyche. “Pretty well, pretty well. I’ve had no shortage of work, but not too much that I’m swamped. Good balance.” The Lost Boy blinks at Thespis’s sudden departure. “Well that is certainly an ordeal I’m glad I don’t have to deal with.”

Klaire Henriette: Psyche blinks as Thespis leaves, nodding to Kenzie.

"I think...we should put the emphasis on 'attempting'. He could improve too, but it's not a bad thing to need to improve."

She nods to the Lost.

"Of course. The more the merrier. I apologize for the look earlier."

She smiles at Argus.

"A good balance is nice, I hope Phyx has been helping with that side of things too. Any update on that meeting?"

Arthur Franklin: "No worries." He waived off the apology with a smile, claiming the now-vacated seat at the table. "Expecting someone else to come through, I'm guessing?"

"Arthur, by the way." He offered to the trio as he looked over the menu. "Good to meet you all."

Kenzie: She grunts softly on a gruff agreement. Her mother was an Arrow after all she had heard a million times there is no perfection, only growth and getting better. She looks to the two new comers she doesnt know as well as Psyche seems to. "Names Kenzie. I dont expect much except for some fun times and good people."

Canary Quill: Canary frowns. “I haven’t heard that much from him to be honest, but a lot of that is on me. I spend more time than I probably should holed up in my workshop.” She nods in greeting to the newcomer. “Pleased to meet you, I’m Canary, or Argus if you mean business.” She smirks.

Klaire Henriette: "Sort of. My partner is one of the Lost and I was wondering if she had stopped by before work."

She starts to answer, pauses, and then gives her answer.

"I'm currently Psyche, but other times I'm Klaire."

A nod to Canary.

"I don't blame you, you seem to enjoy working on things there."

Arthur Franklin: "Ah, I see. You able to see through things, then?" He motioned to his face briefly with a small smirk, making note of the names given. "I've had good luck with the 'good people' side of things thus far here." He added to Kenzie, putting in an order for coffee and a corned beef scramble skillet with a passing server.

"What sort of 'business' are you involved in?" He asked Canary, eyeing her curiously.

Canary Quill: “Oh you know, the usual. Mechanical engineering, car repairs, mostly, but I dabble. And I shoot lightning from my hands but that’s more useful for other things.”

Kenzie: “I can but I rarely use magic. I’m very restrained for a libertine voter. Magic for all but safety up. Giant magic condom if you will” she lets them talk for a while.

Klaire Henriette: "No...I can feel when the Lost are nearby. It's not as effective in a crowd. But when others are entering one at a time, it can single the Lost out. Her name is Ylva if you've met her. She's a member of your Autumn Court."

She smiles, loving. Clearly she did love Ylva very much and it showed.

"I'm a telepath. I am trying to...flaunt it less."

Arthur Franklin: "Ah! Handy, that." He nodded to Psyche, thinking a moment on the name. "Don't think I've had the pleasure yet. I'm with Autumn myself, though, so I wager I'll run into her soon enough."

"Really...fascinating." He said with a grin to Canary, nodding with a chuckle to Kenzie. "Fair enough. I use what I have access to a fair bit, but to each their own."

Kenzie: She nods. "My kind tend to--- overly rely on magic. If for whatever reason I can't, I have my body left over to do the heavy lifting. So, I focus on body as much as mind. Im not the dude who just left who gets all angry when people use magic or their powers. After all, there is a reason why money means nothing to me." She grins and offers him a wink.

Klaire Henriette: "Entirely possible. I try to not pry into the Freehold too much, beyond what she needs to say to feel safe."

She nods.

"I rely on my abilities quite a bit. But I'm trying to also adjust for when I can't rely on them, like Kenzie mentioned."

She reaches down to pet the pup under the table.

Arthur Franklin: "Nice position to be in, that. I work in acquisitions myself, helping people get what they need in a timely manner." He paused to thank the server with a bright smile as they dropped off his coffee, taking a sip of it without doctoring it and nodding with approval. "Having a backup plan is always a good move. Never know when something might go pear-shaped."

Kenzie: "Also a fan of Inspector space time I see." She joked. "And yes, always good to have a plan A through double Z. As for me? I just take photos and travel. Brutal brutal life I live. though, I do often have to put up with the gentleman who departed when you arrived so--- Thats almost like being in a war zone."

Klaire Henriette: Psyche pauses at his job description, but nods.

"I'm a private investigator, I work in finding missing people. The majority of my abilities are more subtle but pushing them can still cause some problems."

Canary Quill: "Yeah I have some subtler abilities myself, and sometimes trying to use them to find a 'shortcut' or whatever just ends up leading to more trouble than it's worth."

Arthur Franklin: "That bad, huh?" Arthur asked Kenzie with a small smirk, glancing at the portal where Thespis had left through not too long ago. "Sounds like a bit of a wet blanket from what you're saying."

His eyebrow quirked upwards a touch at Psyche's own job description, offering a nod after a moment. "Time and a place for everything. Sometimes the 'easy' way out causes more trouble that it's worth in the long run."

Kenzie: "Stop saying those words, Arthur. Going to make me fall in love with you, and that in itself is a slew of issues." She teased happily. "Time and place is exactly correct. Along with the proper tool for the job. But I suppose thats a mostly me thing." She shrugs and picks some pineapples off her pancakes to eat.

Klaire Henriette: She pauses for a moment. Psyche. Psyche. Not Klaire. She was Psyche at the moment and so looked away from Arthur.

"Indeed. All about what works at the moment. Sometimes mundane means work better than any abilities we may have."

Arthur Franklin: "Is that so..." He chuckled, taking a sip of his coffee. "True enough. It's all about how you use what you have, as I see it."

Kenzie: She nods. "Just because you have a sledge hammer, we don't always have to smash the door open. Maybe a lock pick or--- I dont know! But perhaps check to see if the door is even locked first." She laughs.

Klaire Henriette: She sighs.

"This reminds me of an internet post that Ylva showed me. It was a number pad, four numbers worn away. I got caught up in figuring out what the code might be that I didn't see the last part of the post...that the door was already unlocked."

Canary Quill: "It's very easy to overthink things, yes. I, unfortunately, know that all too well from personal experience." Canary grimaces for a moment, as if thinking of a few embarrassing memories.

Arthur Franklin: "So say we all." He lifted his coffee cup to Canary in a small salute. "Way too easy to get bogged down in the details sometimes."

Kenzie: "Thats what got me into photography to begin with. It helps slow me down and look for those details. To catch those fleeting moments of beauty. It isn't for everyone, but damn does it help me."

Klaire Henriette: Psyche was about to speak, but her alarm went off, and she frowns. Her whole posture seems to change a bit, a bit more reserved, a bit more focused.

"I do need to get going. Rook and I have a client to meet for a new case. It was a pleasure meeting you Arthur, and always nice to see you both." A nod to the other two.

Kenzie: She gave Psyche a quick side hug and a few last pets to Rook before he got into work mode. "See you soon. Perhaps sans Thespis." she wags her brows.

Klaire Henriette: Rook gets up and sits professionally, panting at the pets, and then stopping as Klaire puts on the service vest. He was a good boy! And was now on duty!

"See you soon, hopefully sans Thespis. Lunch tomorrow?"

Kenzie: She nods. "Sounds great! We can meet at -names nice sandwhich spot where Psyche would know-?"

Arthur Franklin: "It was good meeting you as well." Arthur replied, a bright smile on his face. "See you around, maybe."

Klaire Henriette: "Absolutely." Klaire smiles.

"Take care." And she heads out cause I got class.

Kenzie: "Be good to that woman." She said idly to the other two. Soon her focus was on Arthur once more. "So, a procurer of things? That has to be a fun and interesting job. What has been the strangest thing you have been asked to acquire?"

Arthur Franklin: "It has been so far." He replied, sitting back in his seat as he mulled over the question. "Since coming here? Some old journals from a Revolutionary War doctor that someone wanted to get their hands on. Never found out why, but then again in that line of work you learn not to ask."

Kenzie: She chuckles. "My first thought is of a night stalker looking to empower their condition." She gave a half shrug. "Still though, seems like a fun gig." She looks to Canary. "You fix things right? Did I mess that up again? I swear Dory has a longer memory than I do."

Arthur Franklin: "I could see that, yeah. Stranger things." He nodded, thanking the server for bringing around his meal and taking a few bites as he looked towards Canary at the question sent her way.

Canary Quill: "Yes, I fix things. Damn good at it too. I'm also enough of an engineer to turn a sedan into the Batmobile if I can get my hands on the materials." Canary chuckles, though she's clearly serious about being proud of her abilities.

Kenzie: She looks between the two of them. "How much for you to get this woman what she needs to do this? I -have- to see this!"

Arthur Franklin: "I can talk to some people." Arthur replied with a kilowat grin. "Which style of Batmobile, though?"

Kenzie: "Uhhhh, like you even have to ask. Michael Keaton's bat mobile."

Canary Quill: “I may be exaggerating just a tad. From a practical standpoint I could probably get the body sculpt and general speed down. The jet engine is superfluous, and too loud besides. As for the gadgets, those are harder. I’d need to balance armor, weight, and space management to get any of those in let alone make them easy to use from the driver’s seat.”

Arthur Franklin: He paused a moment at the name mentioned, the gears turning a bit before he nodded. "Right, he was in that. Missed when that one came out."

"Sounds like it would be a fun project, at any rate." He added to Canary, sneaking in another bite or two of his meal.

Kenzie: "I didnt expect it to be fuuuullly functional with weapons. Just, drive and have flames out the back." She laughs. She smirks to Arthur. "It was fun to see it opening night. The 80's are fun but I like the 90's more."

Canary Quill: “That I can do. Though I’m not sure it’d be street legal.”

Arthur Franklin: "The 80s were something, I agree there. I was in the the thick of it up in New York." He chuckled quietly, sitting back in his seat. "Definitely prefer how some things have developed now, though."

Kenzie: "Oh thats fine. I will worry about the cops." She chuckles. She nods to Arthur. "Oh yeah, I grew up with internet and cell phones. I have most def grew up in an awesome time. It's just cool to go pretend to be a 90's kid."

Canary Quill: “I grew up in the mid to late 90s. It was what it was. It’s not what all the nostalgia stuff makes it out to be.”

Arthur Franklin: "I was born in '64 myself, so I'm technically a boomer?" He smirked a touch. "I missed a good chunk in between, though, being Elsewhere and all. Just got back last year."

Kenzie: “I don’t know. I’ve been a few times and I really enjoy the lack of cell phones, the giant ass CD players and music shops. I loved the clothing style. It had some cool parts.” She nods to Arthur “the 60s are fun too. But, a little too far back for me to really enjoy. That’s one of the perks when you master time. You can just sort of be any time you want. Bad time to talk? Shit, see you 20 minutes ago before you got that call from your now ex”

Canary Quill: “I meant all the people saying that like… media was so much better then. Like movies and stuff. I dunno, maybe it’s just because I was a kid, but even though there were some absolute classic movies in the 90s I’m partial to other eras. Makes me a traitor of a 90s kid I guess.”

Arthur Franklin: "Master time, huh..." He watched Kenzie for a moment, his features inscrutable behind the mask of pleasantness he sported. "That must be interesting, being able to jump around like that. I've got some interesting tricks on my end, but nothing that extensive."

"Eh, to each their own." He replied to Canary, giving a nod. "I'm still catching up on a lot of media myself, but there's some older films from when I was growing up that I prefer."

Kenzie: she laughs softly. "I mean, all we get today are remakes of shit from the 90's. Jurassic park to world for example. Bad remakes of Ninja turtles. So, with that in mind, yeah, the 90's had an epic movies catalogue." She looks to Arthur curious. "I don't actually off the top of my head know anything from the 60's or 70's movie wise."

Arthur Franklin: "The original Superman movie, The Muppets Movie, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory...there's a good handful of them I remember seeing in the theaters when I was a kid."

Kenzie: "Aaahh yeah. Yeah, those were awesome. I actually did a muppet marathon the other day with a Cadre mate. He had never seen Muppets haunted mansion."

Arthur Franklin: "I haven't either, I'll admit, but I've got a good backlog to work through before getting to more current stuff." He said with a small smirk. "Glad to see they're still kicking, though."

Kenzie: "Owned by Disney so--- they will remake anything to keep those IPs from public domaine."

Arthur Franklin: "True enough. Got to keep those money-makers in hand and all." He shook his head, taking a sip of his coffee before continuing. "They've become even more of a juggernaut than they were when I left, it's almost impressive."

Canary Quill: Canary grins. “Muppets Haunted Mansion is a great one. I’m partial to Muppet Christmas Carol in terms of the specials, though.”

Kenzie: "oooh yeah. That one is a great one." She nods in agreement. "I keep hearing rumors that Apple may buy Disney and that thought sort of breaks me. Like, How huge of a fish to you have to be to even have someone entertain the thought that they can buy Disney?"

Canary Quill: “Last time those rumors came round there were talks of dropping the anti trust hammer.”

Arthur Franklin: "Wouldn't be surprised. It'd be like Ma Bell all over again."

Kenzie: "Ma Bell?" She furrows a brow.

Arthur Franklin: "It was a whole thing with AT&T basically buying up or creating subsidiaries to the point where they owned and operated the telephone service for almost the entire nation. They finally got hit with an anti-trust suit and were broken into various holding companies in the early 80s."

Kenzie: "Ahhhhh. Makes sense. I mean--- capitalism right? Do good enough to control it all, or not be able to afford your employees and lose everything. But you know, people dont want to hear either end. They think that competition can just sprout up and compete with juggernauts and that no business deserves to fail. They would rather see slave labor from children and call it -Work experience- and still think they need a subsidy from the Government for doing them and the kids a favor."

Canary Quill: Canary nods along as she shoves another piece of pancake in her mouth, a muffled “mhm” barely audible from the voracious Lost Boy.

Kenzie: 'Not that I am all commie or anything. Just, I hate ignorant and stupid and entitled people."

Arthur Franklin: "Intentional ignorance is what gets my goat. If you don't know something you don't know it, but if you purposefully shut yourself off from information just because it makes you uncomfortable? Forget about it."

Kenzie: She nods. "Yes, 100% and more along the lines of what I meant."

Klaire Henriette: About this time, Kenzie may notice that there...was a wallet on the seat next to her. Opening it would reveal it to be Klaire's.

Kenzie: "Ooooh, Looks like lunch is on our new Bestie. Thanks Klaire. Told you Money was pointless to me." She joked. She tugs out her phone and sends a text. (The text reading "You have 30 minutes to collect your belongings before a Mustache is drawn on your DL.")

Arthur Franklin: Arthur eyed the wallet as Kenzie spotted it, chuckling. "Hate when that happens. At least getting cards replaced is easier these days."

Kenzie: "I was down in Florida a while back and was spending money in Saint Augustine all the while someone got into my bank and hacked my card. Like, legit changed my banking password and pin number and drained all my funds in South Carolina buying gift cards. Fraud alert never went off. But any time before that, I would go to three stores all next door, it would always set off." She rolls her eyes. "Losing a card suuuucks."

Canary Quill: Canary chuckles. “It definitely does. But at least we know how to return this one.”

Kenzie: "Correct. Scavenger hunt." She nods.

Arthur Franklin: "Oof, that's rough." He shook his head, taking a moment to polish off his meal before chuckling at Kenzie's suggestion. "That could be interesting...as a PI she might enjoy that."

Canary Quill: “Or she might not like being reminded of work when she’s off the clock.”

Kenzie: She giggles more. "I am mostly teasing. I would be so annoyed and she has enough on her plate. I enjoy toying with my friends, but not like this. This is something I would do to someone I was not fond of."

Arthur Franklin: "Good on ya. Knowing where the line is between funny and irritating can be difficult sometimes."

Canary Quill: Canary nods. “Knowing the line between a lot of different things and becoming irritating is often difficult. I know a fair number of people who struggle with that line.”

Kenzie: "I know the line. It just depends on my mood at the time." She admits like the brat she can be and a sly smirk. "Really though, it is all situational. If they were car keys to her second car, sure. Thats funny, and she isn't put out. But a wallet, that is rather harsh. I saw someone pay off the guy who restocks vending machines to put a buddies wallet in it like 4 candies back and they wernt even good candies. So then he was forced to borrow money to get his wallet."

Arthur Franklin: "Yeah, I'd get hot about that for sure." He nodded, a small, sharp smirk gracing his features. "Things usually get sporting if I get angry, though, so I try to avoid it."

Kenzie: "oooh? Sort of like the Hulk? What--- sort of things do you do?"

Arthur Franklin: "You familiar with Black Canary from the DC comics stuff?"

Kenzie: She shook her head. "I am a terrible nerd. I have literally all of the time but I do not have time for many shows or Movies. I--- am a social creature so I am seen out and about more so than hidey holed away doing movies."

Canary Quill: “When I get angry nothing terrible happens, I just have a tell.” She holds up her hand. “Y’know my lightning shtick? I have a penchant to shock people by accident when emotions get high. Nothing serious, just little static stuff, but it lets people know, y’know?”

Arthur Franklin: "No worries, know it's a little niche. It's basically a supersonic scream that can break glass instantly and do some solid damage to both people and things around me when it fires off."

Kenzie: "Oh, so half the girl characters in Lego Jurassic world." She chuckles softly. "Fun times. I just give people bad luck. I am also a master of Fate. The more I talk the more I scare myself with what I can do."

Canary Quill: “Sometimes you don’t realize something until you say it out loud.”

Arthur Franklin: "Mmhmm. You settle into a new normal and then go 'wait a minute' when you actually think about it." He motioned around them briefly. "I'd bet everyone who can get in here feels that now and again."

Kenzie: She nods. "Im just glad we aren't in some battle royal with one another. Its bad enough with the crap groups we have already."

Canary Quill: “Me too. Not least of which because I don’t think I’d survive that.”

Arthur Franklin: "Here here." He raised his coffee cup in a toast. "From what I've heard folks being so buddy buddy here is pretty rare, yeah?"

Kenzie: She nods a bit. "As well as it is here, yeah. Its pretty nice. Not always so other places. But I think mostly it's because the lack of wolves." She joked. Her phone goes off again. "It seems I should go to Klaire and drop off her wallet. You two take care."
