Maddy's Wafflehouse

Log

Ylva Theodulus: Ylva is wearing one of her new plaid skirts that is a little longer than she is used to, its not modest by any means but she doesnt look like a slutty schoolgirl in this one. A black crop top and fishnets accent the outfit with her leather jacket slung over the back of the booth.

She is sitting in one of the corner booths sipping at a pot of coffee with a few empty plates of food scattered around her.

Hands drawing furiously into her tablet, muttering under her breath as she does.

Daniel Hawthorne: The portal into the diner did what portals do, allowing the ingress of a well-dressed gentleman with a slim leather laptop bag slung over his shoulder. He glanced around the space behind a pair of black sunglasses, an eyebrow quirking up at the new face before a small smirk formed at the flurry of artistic expression happening. When he spoke he sounded almost British, the old-money Boston Brahmin coming through loud and clear. "I see I'm not the only one who stopped by to get some work done..."

Ylva Theodulus: Ylva chuckles lifting an eyebrow a smile on her face.

"What can I say, good coffee, power plugs and I dont have to watch my p's and q's so to speak."

Looking up there is a gentle wave. "Care to join me?"

Daniel Hawthorne: "Don't mind at all." He moved to take a seat across from the Courser, setting his bag down beside him. "Daniel, by the way."

Ylva Theodulus: She slides her tabled to the side a little as he sits, drawing her cup of coffee closer as she sips.

"Heya Daniel, you can call me Ylva. A pleasure."

Daniel Hawthorne: "Nice to meet you as well. New in town, or have I just not run into you here yet?"

Ylva Theodulus: "New to, uh, this side of town. Lets go with that. Only gained access to Maddys since the 10th of August." There is a little chuckle at that. "Lived here almost a decade before that though."

Daniel Hawthorne: "Ah hah." He gave a knowing nod, glancing at the menu before continuing. "Been here for about...eight years now myself?"

Ylva Theodulus: She runs her hand through her white hair ruffling it slightly, fingers grazing the tips of her ears as she does.

"Its a nice city. Most people dont look twice at an Albino Dwarf which is a nice change."

Finishing off her coffee she sets it down with the other plates and chew her lip as Daniel looks at the menu.

Daniel Hawthorne: Daniel smirked at that, wry little thing that it was. "Philadelphia is rather accepting of the unusual, I do agree there." Not that the Haunt looked particularly odd himself, at least at first blush, but who could say...

When the server came round he put in an order for a coffee and some of the pumpkin pancakes before looking back to Ylva. "What brought you to Philly?"

Ylva Theodulus: She orders another round of waffles and coffee before handing them all her empty plates with a tip.

"Honestly its about the furthest place I could get from home and be accepting. Its got a good tattoo scene. Enough to keep me busy."

Daniel Hawthorne: "Know how that goes...had a pretty hefty cloud hanging over me in Boston, and coming here was a good way to get out from under it." He glanced over at her tablet at the mention of her profession, the gears turning a bit. "Tattoo artist, huh? I'm a clothing designer myself. Run a little studio off of Rittenhouse Square."

Ylva Theodulus: There is a little nod at that. "Oh? I might have to come visit if I ever decide to change my assthetic. Havent been able to work since, everything. Hoping to get back to it soon."

Daniel Hawthorne: "Would love to have you." He took a moment to pull a slim card case from his pocket, offering her one of the business cards within that had the info for the shop and a second number written on the back with immaculate penmanship. "Number on the back's my direct cell, easier to get a hold of me that way."

"Hope you get things straightened out soon as well. Adjusting to being on this side of the weird is always interesting, from what I've gathered."

Ylva Theodulus: She takes the card offering him one of her own.

"Im not working at the moment but the shop is still ticking over."

"Heres hoping, one day at a time. Hey I can come to Maddys that is a step in the right direction."

Daniel Hawthorne: Daniel took the offered card, looking it over briefly before putting it into the case with the rest and slipping it back into his pocket. "My sister's been looking into getting something done, I'll send her your way."

"Always a plus. Food here's fantastic, and the company's usually pretty good too." The last was said with a smile, settling back into his seat.

Ylva Theodulus: "Ill never say no to new clients. Itll keep the girls busy."

"Food is good, coffee is good, company is fantastic and I dont have to worry so much about what I say."

Daniel Hawthorne: "Mmhmm. Wish we'd had a place like this in Boston." He nodded to the server as they came over with their orders, offering a quiet thanks before she headed off once again. "Being able to...mingle more with other folks has been a nice change, and often pretty enlightening."

Ylva Theodulus: "Yeah its been nice, figuring out we arent alone."

She tucks into her new order of Waffles with vigor and they are gone almost before the server is back to the kitchen.

"Heck, I only just found out we exist, its nice to know there are other brands of weird in the night."

Daniel Hawthorne: He blinked as the waffles vanished as quickly as they did, looking more impressed than anything as he started to tuck into his own meal. "Which group are you with, if you don't mind my asking?"

Ylva Theodulus: She hesitates for a moment sipping at her coffee before shrugging. "The Lost. Got back a little over a month ago. Yourself?"

Daniel Hawthorne: He nodded, polishing off his bite of pancake and swallowing it fully before answering. "Vampire, going on close to a decade."

Ylva Theodulus: Ylva tilts her head at that looking at the meal he is eating.

"Didnt, uh, excuse me if its insensitive but I didnt think you could eat, uh, normal food?"

Daniel Hawthorne: "Normally not, no. There's some steps you can take, though." He smirked a touch, taking a sip of his coffee. "It doesn't really do anything, but the taste is usually worth it."

Ylva Theodulus: Ylva smirks in response. "Fair enough, is it bad if I say the same is almost true of me? There are a few of mine that keep recommending me to talk to the Vampires of the city about it."

A little chuckle before she continues. "Apparently im in luck."

Daniel Hawthorne: "Oh?" Cue a curious arch of the eyebrow. "Seems like it."

Ylva Theodulus: She looks down at her empty plate sliding it to the side and sipping at her coffee.

"Hunger issues. Not many of my kind know how to deal with that and, well, its pretty intrinsic to yours."

Daniel Hawthorne: "Ah hah." He nodded quietly, snagging another sip of his coffee before setting the cup down. "That it is. Always in the back of your mind, pushing towards the next meal even if you don't 'need' it."

Ylva Theodulus: "Yeah, something like that. Always wanting to know what people taste like. What it would feel like to take a limb."

She leans back in the booth. "I know my certain brand is a little more violent than blood but im sure you can relate."

Daniel Hawthorne: "I can, yeah. On our end having a readily accessible source helps to keep things more manageable, but I imagine that's not quite an option for you."

Ylva Theodulus: "Its kinda an option, its a complex option. I have ready access to an alternative that keeps me distracted but not satiated?"

"I crave what I was fed during my, uh, trip away, and that meat isnt so sustainable."

Daniel Hawthorne: "Right." He offered a nod, mulling as he sat back in his seat. "Finding an alternate source with the same 'oomph' may not be easy either, I take it."

Ylva Theodulus: She looks down at her hand turning it over a few times.

"No. Id rather not eat my friends."

Daniel Hawthorne: He watched her for a moment at that, head tilted slightly like he was listening for something. "It's good that you feel that way, for what it's worth. I've seen others that have slid so far down that path that they wouldn't care, and it's a hard place to climb back up from."

Ylva Theodulus: "Yeah, I know it is. I nearly ate my wife when I got back and then tried to bite someone during coitus the other day."

Daniel Hawthorne: He winced at that, giving her a sympathetic look. "That's rough, yeah. Gotten close like that a few times myself, but thankfully nothing too bad came out of it."

Ylva Theodulus: "My wife is human, so like she wouldve died. The person the other day probably wouldve live because she is one of my kind."

She shrugs before continuing sipping at her coffee and trying to relax.

"Guy was right that you would know what I meant."

Daniel Hawthorne: "He's a good man. We run in similar circles on our side of things." Daniel nodded, reclaiming his own cup to take a sip. "It's not an easy urge to fight against, but it is doable. I'm sure you'll find a way, and if there's any help I can offer I'd be willing."

Ylva Theodulus: "Thanks. Any advice would be appreciated but really thats about it. Just trying to fight past the urge. Even right now. Having the urge to know what yall taste like."

Daniel Hawthorne: He sat up a little straighter at that, the thumb on his left hand idly rubbing against the side of his finger. "Don't find out, if you have the choice. It's highly addictive, and can get you wrapped around their finger in a heartbeat if you do it too much."

Ylva Theodulus: "That is the ever present question isnt it. How much of what I have been made into is my choice and how much control do I have over that fact?"

Daniel Hawthorne: "One thing I've learned, especially since coming here, is that you may not have had a choice in becoming what you are, but what you do with the hand you've been dealt is the important thing. Forging your own path forward with all the issues that may have come with that 'gift' may not always be easy, but it's worth the effort to come out the other side with something you can call your own."

Ylva Theodulus: "Yeah, I guess your right."

She chuckles. "You sound a lot like all of my friends. I guess that is true. Thanks for the reminder."

Daniel Hawthorne: "You're welcome. It was a lesson that took me moving here to learn, after I was brought into the night under rather ignoble circumstances." He gave another wry smirk at that, taking a moment to polish off his meal. "I can safely say that I'm no longer that mess of nerves and unresolved self-hatred, at least, so I'll take that."

Ylva Theodulus: "Well, im glad you could learn that lesson. Im hoping that being in this city can teach me the same. It might just take me more than a month and change."

She finishes off her coffee eating the cup and then looking awkwardly at Daniel. "Whoops."

Daniel Hawthorne: "Here's hoping." He started to say more but his eyebrows shot up as Ylva finished off the cup as well as her coffee, simply staring at her for a moment in surprise before he chuckled. "That...was impressive."

Ylva Theodulus: She chuckles trying to play it off and slides down in her chair. Hand pushing her hair out of her face.

"Turns out my new body will eat pretty much fucking anything."

Daniel Hawthorne: "Handy trick to have at times, I imagine."

Ylva Theodulus: "I dunno, just ends up with me eating a lot of plates and owing Maddy money mostly."

Daniel Hawthorne: "Fair enough. She's a good sort from what I've seen, though, and losing dishware's part of the business over time."

Ylva Theodulus: "Sounds it, ive never had the pleasure."

"Thanks for hanging out, though I think I should get some more work done if you dont mind?"

Daniel Hawthorne: "Not a problem. Got a design for later this week that I need to finish myself." He patted the laptop bag beside him with a smirk. "Was good talking with you, though, and if you need an ear feel free to give me a call."

Ylva Theodulus: "Thanks Daniel, have a good night."
