Jeremiah Hamilton: It was a relatively quiet Wednesday night at the cafe, with the evening's performers already wrapped up for the evening and grabbing food at one of the corner tables. Jeremiah had just finished checking in with them and once again applauding their performance and was headed for the counter to get a cup of tea for himself, chatting quietly with the young woman behind the counter with a small smile on his face.

Kayla Sockum: Kay emerges from the bathroom, never having gotten in through the main door of the building. She's wearing a pair of tight-fitted jeans, platform heels and a low-cut white shirt.

"Hey, I'd like some tea with honey and lemon please." She asks, leaning against the counter near Jay.

Jeremiah Hamilton: A wide smile formed as Jay caught sight of his cadremate, sliding in next to her for a quick hug. "Hey there. How goes?"

Kayla Sockum: "I'm fine, I'm fine..." Kay says with a bit of a smile and fakes a shaking hand as she set her card down on the counter. "What about you?" she taps him on the shoulder playfully.

Jeremiah Hamilton: "Decent night overall, can't complain too much." The shaking hand was noted but not commented on just yet. "The band for the night just wrapped up, should be smooth sailing for the rest of the night."

Kayla Sockum: "What kind of music did they play? I missed them and sound doesn't quite reach where I came in from." Kay says with a chuckle, rolling her shoulders and now adding the lemon to her newly acquired tea.

Jeremiah Hamilton: "More on the blues side." He claimed his own cup of green tea from the server and tilted his head towards his normal table near the doors. "What've you been up to?"

Kayla Sockum: Kay follows toward the normal table, they move much slower than normal, on account of the heels and how little they actually use platform shoes in general.

"Same old, same old, been hoping to catch Mary for a conversation, but mood or circumstances haven't been right in a bit." Kay says.

Jeremiah Hamilton: "Those are new. They look nice, though." He commented on the shoes as they walked, nodding as he pulled a chair out for her before getting settled himself. "Good luck there. Waiting for a meeting with Constantine myself, which will hopefully come sooner than later."

Kayla Sockum: "I've been trying a few accessories lately, just, trying to express the feminine side in different ways. I'll need to rework how I approach some pieces of it." She sips on her tea. "Constantine? Something big happening?"

Jeremiah Hamilton: "Gotcha." He lifted his tea cup in a small salute before taking a sip, nodding at the question that followed. "The business with the former sentinel and current deputy. I've been asked to assist in the investigation."

Kayla Sockum: "Oh I see, I sort of stayed clear of that business." Kay says, continuing to nurse her tea. She rolls her shoulder a bit. "Still working on a few classified projects but I've been distracted."

Jeremiah Hamilton: "I would if I could, barring supporting Klaire as I can, but duty calls and all that." He let out a quiet sigh, clearly torn over the matter to his highly-empathetic cadremate, then looked Kay over as she tested her shoulder again. "You sure you're good? You seem a little...tense."

Kayla Sockum: "Well, my conversation with Mary's going to end with a very specific question." Kay says with a bit of a squirm. "And the conversation is a big, heavy one, so I'm nervous as to how this is going to go."

Kay produce what looks like a ring made out of polished stone, along with a shattered version of it. "Been practicing."

Jeremiah Hamilton: A brief moment of confusion flickered across Jeremiah's face before Kay pulled out the rings and the 'ah hah' settled in. "Ah...yeah, that's understandable. I was nervous when I asked that question myself, so that's natural."

Kayla Sockum: "Yeah, I bet your conversation didn't invole huh... some of the stuff mine will." Kay says with a worried smile. She pockets the stone rings and subtly tap her temple. "if you want the details."

Jeremiah Hamilton: He nodded, focusing for a moment before the connection between the pair locked into place. All set.

Kayla Sockum: I feel all kind of weird working toward what I presume is Ascension for myself and then asking Mary to marry me. It's making me nervous, but I don't want to ask without her knowing what I'm getting into you know. Kay says with a quick unloading of her thoughts. A deep drink of her tea and she set it aside. "You know, casual couple shit."

Jeremiah Hamilton: He went quiet for a moment, a mix of both pride in and concern for Kay coming through the link before he nodded. "No kidding."

He offered her a hand, along with a reassuring smile. "I think that no matter what may be on the horizon, having her at your side will be important."

Kayla Sockum: "It would be for me, but people get weird about death and mourning." Kay shrugs and takes a soft sigh. Truth be told, I'm also sort of nervous about the conversation because I'm basically holding back on working on the Ascension part until I know how Mary's going to react to it.

"But there's still a lot of work for me to do to reach my destination."

Jeremiah Hamilton: "True, on both counts. Knowing her, she'll want to be there with you no matter what."

I get that. I doubt she'll like it, but she should also respect whatever decision you make. Love can get us through a lot of hardships.

Kayla Sockum: "Yeah probably." Kay chuckles and takes a deep sigh. Thanks for keeping my feet on the ground on that one

"How's everything on your end? Learning new things? Working on new spells? Pupils I haven't met?"

Jeremiah Hamilton: You're welcome. Happy to help. he thought with a small smile, nodding as she spoke her next question. "Yes to the first two. I've been idling over expanding my repertoire for a bit and finally decided to bite the bullet. Maddy has been kind enough to start me on a more fateful path, and it's been an interesting shift in perspective."

Kayla Sockum: "I've recently started helping her out with Life too." Kay says with a nods. "Also, I can give some pointers there too, if you ever need a fatalistic, grim view of it." Clearly, she's joking there.

I may have been studying Fate and Time under Cookie Monster recently and oopsed in an extra Mastery or two

Jeremiah Hamilton: "You, grim? Never." He said with a chuckle, giving her a nod. "Might take you up on that, though. Learning the basics from different perspectives can make for a deeper foundation, I've come to find.

Really...impressive. I'm close to a fourth on Prime myself.

Kayla Sockum: "I try not to be too grim, but sometimes, I can't help it." Kay continues teasing. "And yeah, especially when you get to the really complex questions."

I'm not sure what higher level prime looks like, I've been sitting on Adept for a while.

Jeremiah Hamilton: "Can't fault you for it. Lord knows I can be a proper devil on one's shoulder from time to time." He smirked, taking a sip of his tea. "Exactly. As much as we all study the same thing we see it through our own lens, so getting out of your own head from time to time can do wonders."

Pretty heavy stuff, from what I know: forging hallows and eidolons from scratch, creating null zones, that sort of thing.

Kayla Sockum: "You? A Devil?" Kay makes an incredulous face and finishes her tea. "I think I went a little too heavy on the lemon."

Oh wow, that sounds like you could fuck-up the city with this.

Jeremiah Hamilton: "Only on occasion." He offered his own cup to help wash down the overly-lemony dregs of her tea, smirking a touch. "Hate when that happens."

Mmhmm. I'm interested mainly for legacy purposes, as it can grant a modified version of the spell that lets you share Mage Sight.

Kayla Sockum: "Nah, I'll endure the lemon, it's not that bad." Kay chuckles. "It's mostly my fault for squeezing this hard."

What kind of modification are we talking about?

Jeremiah Hamilton: "Figured I'd offer." He nodded, reclaiming the cup and taking another sip for himself.

It keeps it from being as draining on the will to use for longer periods, and can offer protection from the mental breaks that sometimes come from viewing the Supernal unprepared.

Kayla Sockum: "Thanks for the offer." Kay chuckles slightly, stretching and rolling her ankles a little.

Speaking of which, I've spoken to a woman recently, Aya Jabir. Keep an eye out for this woman, she's an inspiration beyond word. She's got an interested in the dead too. She's one of the mortal influence that helped me with some philosophies.

Jeremiah Hamilton: He perked up at that, naturally, walker of the Ilumined Path as he was. Really...I'd heard she was in town, but not that she was part of our side of things. Good to know.

"You have anything planned for the rest of the night? Can wrap up here pretty soon myself if you want to head back home, maybe get food on the way?"

Kayla Sockum: "We can totally head home if you want. Depending on how you came here, I might even hitch a ride." Kay says, standing up.

Jeremiah Hamilton: "I drove, if you think you'd be comfortable riding along. Otherwise we can take the quick way and I'll come back and get it later." He took a moment to polish off his tea, collecting their cups to help bus the table for the staff while waiting for her reply.

Kayla Sockum: "I can try again, but don't go too fast, okay?" Kay says with a bit of a nervous touch as she stand up, following him around

Jeremiah Hamilton: "Of course." He said with a reassuring smile, checking in with the manager on duty to let them know he was heading out before leading the way to the parking lot. "If you get too uncomfortable let me know."

Kayla Sockum: "I will." Kay says and decides, fuck it, steps out of her heels and walks barefoot to the car.
