Log

Kayla Sockum: Magic is being worked in the Hallow room, their yew bowl filled with water, runes traced with the tip of her fingers against the floor, leaving tracks of water quickly fading.

Kay takes a deep breath and whatever spell she's been working on is dismissed, with the back of her hand. "That's just a bad idea." They tell themself.

Kay is wearing a loose black hoodie and a pair of basketball shorts.

Jeremiah Hamilton: There was a quick knock on the door before Jeremiah stuck his head in, smiling as he saw his cadremate already there. "Hey. Got a minute or are you busy?"

Kayla Sockum: "I got time!, come in, come in." Kay stretches her legs out and set her ritual tools aside, turning her attention to Jay, grabbing on to a cushion and hugs it against her chest. "What's on your mind."

Jeremiah Hamilton: He slid into the room properly at her bidding, claiming another cushion nearby to sit on. "It's something I've been bouncing around in my head since I took my most recent step towards the Watchtower, honestly, but what you said at the cafe yesterday brought it up again. The whole 'woes of going out in public' bit. How has that shaken out for you in general, tapping into that superhuman potential for development?"

Kayla Sockum: "In my case, it's developed in the form of being supernaturally good at reading people and their motivations. To the point of not being able to stop it." Kay says "It's reading the room, the interactions, the mood shifts, the connections you can pick up."

Kay leans back "And I can't stop it, I can try to dull it with magic, but it's not a perfect solution."

"The whole thing can be exhausting, honestly. But, I will say, it's also been a boon to navigate things in ways, I couldn't have imagined before."

Jeremiah Hamilton: "Pros and cons there, for sure. I have pushed past that mark as far as natural expression goes, which makes my work easier in terms of spotting talent at a glance but can be grating at times. All the little foibles in human speech catch my ear and can pile up after a while."

"The thought of progressing further in the core parts of myself has been the main thing rattling around, but considering how people-facing my work is I'm not sure if it's a step worth taking at the moment. I can boost them magically but having it as a baseline could get sporting."

Kayla Sockum: "Yeah and be careful if you actually have to perform, because I'm pretty sure it can draw the weird sort of attention." Kay says "People get really suspicious when you call bullshit on their stuff within two words of their speech." A soft chuckle.

"You might make people throw their underwear at you if you do a bit of street busking. Jeremiahmania and such."

Jeremiah Hamilton: "True enough. I've had to dial it back a bit during mentoring sessions already." He nodded, letting out a snort of laughter at the comment that followed. "Lord...definitely don't need that."

Kayla Sockum: "Sometimes, just sometimes, Wisdom can get pretty boring." Kay jokes slightly. "But it's probably better for everyone if you don't crowdsurf your way down to do groceries."

"Maybe we could get you a personal announcer if that happens." she clears her throat. "Ladies and Gentlemen, Jeremiah has left the building."

"In all seriousness, it's hitting your toes on the fallen world in exchange for ... " she makes a mind blown gesture with their hand.

Jeremiah Hamilton: "Mmhmm. Phenomenal cosmic power, itty bitty living space." He said with a chuckle. "It's jarring, in a way, knowing that we should be able to pursue that level of development but the world isn't ready to face what they can be. At least not yet, anyway."

Kayla Sockum: "The day will come, that day will come." Kay says with a nod. "I don't know how yet, but it will."

"Have you been inspired to write anything new because of it?"

Jeremiah Hamilton: "Here here. I work towards that every day, one grain of sand at a time."

"I have, yeah. Got a couple new tracks in various stages of completion."

Kayla Sockum: "Do you feel like they're any different than the ones you wrote and made before?" Kay asks, curious. "Or is it just easier?"

Jeremiah Hamilton: "Some of them, yeah, if only because I feel I can do more with the notes, if that makes sense. Little tonal shifts and the like here and there that you may not notice consciously but registers all the same."

Kayla Sockum: "I'd be curious to listen to them when you're ready to share them." Kay nods and stretches.

"Aside from that, anything happened after I left last night? Anyone took the social step ladder with the tall lady?" Kay chuckles

Jeremiah Hamilton: "It got...interesting, actually." He replied, a wry smirk on his face. "Valeria is newly-minted with the local Kindred - not one herself, mind, but bound to one - and she was on the paranoid side about the 'little too weird to do my day job' conversation that started up with one of the local Lost who came in after you left. Said Lost tried to smooth things over but Val got spooked and left, which hit said Lost pretty hard by all telling and she left soon after. I was able to convince Val to come back inside and talk in my office and I think I got the point across that being too cautious about spooky stuff in public was more likely to bring attention to her than not."

Kayla Sockum: "Oh, Spooky things." Kay nods. "Sorry to hear things went complicated after I left. Wish I could've helped."

Kay stretches a little bit again, standing up.

Jeremiah Hamilton: "Same, but it turned out alright in the end." He moved to stand as well, smirking a touch. "By the by, I've been working on developing my mastery of Forces and can levitate things now, so if you ever need a speedier way to get around while in mini-mode let me know. I tried it out earlier and it was wicked."

Kayla Sockum: "I've picked up a trick or two lately too. I'm planning on polishing the time stuff with Cookie Monster soon." Kay explains with a smile.

"That way I can give the bad guy a cupcake of my own."

Jeremiah Hamilton: "Nice. That's one of the few Arcana I haven't dabbled in yet, let me know how that goes."

Kayla Sockum: "It's been going for a bit, but it's been... complicated. Timelines are fucking bullshit." Kay chuckles. "It's one of the hardest magic for me to grasp. Even Spirit's not that bad. I get spirits and what they are."

Jeremiah Hamilton: "Sounds about right. Part of why I haven't delved into it yet myself, I'll admit." He smiled, giving her a little shoulder bump. "Knowing you, though, you'll get it figured out."

Kayla Sockum: "Thank you! And I'm sure you'd manage it too if you ever want to learn it."
