Log

Runs concurrent with Market Crash

Eyrgjafa Freyjasdottir: They might be in need of a new Wyrm's Nest, but for now the Dragons are still using the former one's location for their Academy. Which is why Eyrgjafa is sitting on a couch in one of the reading rooms, alternating between flipping pages of a book and making notes on her laptop.

Floretta Williams: Floretta comes into the Academy, walking slowly and carrying a large envelope in her hands, sealed and such. She slotting it into a binder and carries a backpack over her shoulders. She's dressed with a black, loose hoodie and loose sweatpants, her hair is braided, no makeup, but the Blush is on. Herbert's head is poking out of the backpack. "Hey, something going on tonight?"

Daniel Hawthorne: Daniel was looking for some research material of his own, perusing the shelves for something of interest. The young Haunt was dressed neatly but casually as was his wont, a dark grey scarf wrapped firmly around his neck. Hearing Floretta's entry he peeked out around the shelves, smiling and giving her a nod. "Evening."

Eyrgjafa Freyjasdottir: Eyrgjafa glances up at Floretta's arrival. "Not a lot. How've you been?" The Siren is dressed casually herself: dark purple denim jacket, black jeans, red teeshirt. Daniel gets a nod.

Floretta Williams: She delicately set the backpack down on the nearest seat, unzipping the backpack to let her dog out of it, letting him roam around her and sniff each of the kindred's feet. "I've been having A Day. But it's a little better now that someone turned the light off." she points vaguely toward outside. She grins up at the fellow Touati family member. "Hey! How're you?"

Daniel Hawthorne: "Well enough. Work's keeping me busy, so I decided to take the night off for some reading." He smiled a touch as he looked down to Herbert, curious to see how the pup would handle the aura of weird that his blood tended to carry.

Eyrgjafa Freyjasdottir: "Oh? Have any new designs to show us?" Eyrgjafa asks, seeming genuinely interested. When Herbert reaches her, she bends to scritch the puppy behind his ears. "You've heard about the Nereid situation, right?"

Floretta Williams: Herbert does not seem to care much about any weird auras for the moment, sniffing at the feet indiscriminately, though he seems familiar enough with Eyrgjafa. Flo nods. "If Herbert bothers you, I'll keep him close, don't worry." she speaks to Daniel. sitting down.

Daniel Hawthorne: "More worried about bothering him." He allowed himself a quiet chuckle, reaching down to give the little fella a quick scritch behind the ear before moving to join the others.

"A few, and I'm waiting to hear back on another show that's supposed to be happening soon." He claimed a seat of his own, nodding at Eyr's question. "I have, at least in passing. Any new developments on that front?"

Eyrgjafa Freyjasdottir: "A few." She recaps the known info for the pair, glancing between them. "I didn't know you had a show planned, what's the theme?"

Floretta Williams: "Oh he's not bothered by much yet." She pluck the dog from the ground, giving it a few kiss on his head, then set him down next to her, securing the envelope into her backpack. "Unforunately Herbert, that means you'll have to walk a bit." She then looks to Daniel and await his answer, with wide eye interest.

Daniel Hawthorne: "That I don't know yet. Waiting to hear back from the organizer for the details. It's meant to be something of a re-do for the designers that were initially going to be doing the show at the Museum, without all of the politics involved."

Eyrgjafa Freyjasdottir: "Oh, yes, I heard about how that turned into a disaster. Something about the stagehands walking out right before it was meant to begin?"

Guy Dagenham: Guy makes his way into the reading room, taking everyone in for a moment. “Hello everybody, how are you this evening?”

Floretta Williams: She makes Herbert waves at Guy when he shows up. "Hi." she then lets the dog go, and he choses to lay there on her lap for now. "What happened at the last show? I don't think I had gotten out of my study-daze by then."

Daniel Hawthorne: "Indeed. Not that I fault them for it, mind; Shiri pulled their donation to the show for a reason, after all." Daniel nodded to Guy at his entrance, then looked back to Floretta. "From what I heard the stagehands walked out in protest, as the money being raised was going towards charter schools rather than the public school programs as was usually the case."

Eyrgjafa Freyjasdottir: "Because the charter schools need it so much more, of course." Eyrgjafa's sarcasm is obvious to anyone who knows the Serpent. "Not that I understand why the public schools aren't fully funded out of taxes, not charity."

Guy Dagenham: He moves to sit in a chair, nodding along to the conversation. “I heard about that. Good to hear things resolved at least peacefully...”

Floretta Williams: "How're things for you Guy?" She asks, setting her backpack aside, curling up on herself. "Did you find anything about a potential spot?" she then looks to Eyrgjafa "Charter school are privately owned school right? Or something like that?"

Daniel Hawthorne: "Because the money has to go towards more important things." The sarcasm was equally thick from the young Haunt with his reply, shaking his head. "I'll fully admit I went to private schools myself, but I'd rather see people get access to the education they deserve instead of scraps off the table."

Eyrgjafa Freyjasdottir: "Just the parish school for me, but." Eyrgjafa shrugs slightly. "There weren't a lot of organised options for education in late 19th century Iceland, private or public."

Guy Dagenham: “Haven’t found anything yet, specifically, maybe a couple places worth looking into, though. I’ll let you know if I have something to lock in on.” He scratches his chin, thinking.

Floretta Williams: Floretta smiles at him and gives him a thumbs up. "Good, been keeping an eye out myself." A look to Eyrgjafa "I went to public schools. Never had the money for private. Kinda sucked too."

Daniel Hawthorne: "I can imagine. My mother's aunt was a teacher, and I heard some horror stories over the years."

Eyrgjafa Freyjasdottir: Eyrgjafa shrugs again. "Most of my education has come since I was Embraced, so. Attending regular schools for that wasn't exactly an option."

Guy Dagenham: “I never went to school, spent two months powering through English and reading and writing, but that’s about it...”

Floretta Williams: "Damn, two months to learn english? I've speaking it for fifty years or so and I still fuck it up." She gives him a thumbs up, she looks to Eyrgjafa and Daniel "I'm guessing you had private tutors then Eyrgjafa?" a beat "What school did they teach at? Was it a local one?" She ask Daniel

Daniel Hawthorne: "Two months...that is impressive." Daniel nodded, then looked to Floretta. "No, in Boston. My family's been there for quite a while."

Eyrgjafa Freyjasdottir: "Correspondence courses, for the mundane stuff, actually. Not anything on our side of the fence, of course." Eyrgjafa glances at Daniel. "Really? I might have run into them while I was there, then. That was a century and some gone, mind."

Guy Dagenham: “I’m still getting better. Have to think about the rules a lot. Stupid rules. Memorizing how all the words sound was the easy part.”

Floretta Williams: "Yeah, that'd be a good idea, online course for stuff I need to work on." She considers options for a moment, inspired by Eyrgjafa's story. "Being a teacher as an official job would've been great." Floretta smiles at Guy "What other language did you speak before then?"

Daniel Hawthorne: "Possibly. We've served under Lord Randall Gardner of the First Estate in some form or fashion since the Revolutionary War."

Eyrgjafa Freyjasdottir: Eyrgjafa nods at Guy's words. "They use do for everything. It's strange, even after a century. Even if the pronunciation was easy, but coming from another Germanic language probably helped with that." Daniel gets a headshake. "Not a name I recognise, but I was only there for a few months before moving on."

Guy Dagenham: Guy nods to Eyrgjafa in agreement. Turning to Floretta, he says, “Deutsch. It made things a bit easier, but English is...weird.”

Floretta Williams: "I don't disagree on that." She leans back into the couch and still plays with her dog's fur as the canine slowly drifts into slumbers. "Really? That's what is a big To-Do about English?" The pun is attempted and awaiting judgement.

Daniel Hawthorne: "Understandable." He nodded quietly, taking a moment to clear his throat before continuing. "I learned French in school and American Sign Language after...well, this." He motioned to his throat briefly, a wry smirk on his face.

Eyrgjafa Freyjasdottir: Eyrgjafa groans at Floretta's pun, glancing at Daniel. "Yeah? Do you have any tutors you'd recommend, I haven't studied any signed languages."

Guy Dagenham: Guy blinks and tilts his head at Floretta. “Hmm? What do you mean, the big to-do?”

Floretta Williams: "I made a pun with what Eyrgjafa said about English and how it uses the verb 'Do' for everything and I apparently earned a groan from her." Floretta says with just a touch of pride there. "Do we have any linguistic expert somewhere in town?"

Daniel Hawthorne: "Not locally, but I'd be willing to help with it if you'd like." He nodded to Eyr at that, then thought a moment on Floretta's question. "Not that I know of off-hand."

Eyrgjafa Freyjasdottir: "I mean, not to brag or anything, but I do know six different languages." Eyrgjafa shrugs. "Linguistics is technically a different field to just learning languages, though."

Guy Dagenham: He nods along, taking out his phone and flipping it open. He freezes for a moment, then sends a few texts. “Cordray is neutralized,” he says quietly, putting his phone away.

Floretta Williams: "I'm guessing it does help to know a lot of different languages. In the linguistic fields though." She looks over at Guy and open her eyes wide. "Oh?"

Daniel Hawthorne: Daniel's eyebrow arched at Guy's announcement, a rare look of surprise for the man. "Really...do you know how?"

Eyrgjafa Freyjasdottir: Eyrgjafa takes her phone out at around the same time as Guy, also sending a few texts before glancing up. "Took her brand of recruitment one step too far around Atalo, apparently. I haven't asked for details." A shrug. "I doubt any of the Academy are going to miss her, and few outside it, for that matter."

Guy Dagenham: He shrugs. “Don’t known details, just wish I had been there. Changeling friend let me know, so...probably not going to end well for her.”

Floretta Williams: Floretta goes a little quiet and focuses her attention sharply on her dog, running her finger through his fur. A little shake of her head. "Hmm, I can't imagine we'll see her again no."

Daniel Hawthorne: "I imagine not, no." Daniel shook his head. "She proved herself to be quite the Icarus, all told."

Eyrgjafa Freyjasdottir: "Indeed." Eyrgjafa glances at Daniel. "Did you ever encounter her personally?"

Guy Dagenham: He relaxes a bit in his chair, leaning his head back. “A real piece of work. No concept of boundaries.”

Floretta Williams: She looks at Guy with a little smile "You doing okay?" She ask curious and a little softer than she was speaking previously.

Daniel Hawthorne: "I did once, at Atalo's. Made quite the show of herself, along with offering to help me get back in with the Estate." He smirked a touch. "Told her I was quite happy where I was."

Eyrgjafa Freyjasdottir: "I bet she was overjoyed to hear that." Eyrgjafa snickers. "I know not all the Inwictoos are in it for petty games of privilege, but she was one of the worst I've met in decades."

Guy Dagenham: “Hmm? Oh, I’m fine. Just...remembering things. Done properly it’s a pleasant way to pass the time. Still listening. I agree, I’ve met a number of pleasant Invictus. She was utterly not.”

Floretta Williams: Floretta takes a deep breath and sits up a little straighter, careful not to accidentally shove Herbert from her lap in the process. "Sir Knight Phillips was polite enough when I met him, but, that's not an endorsement."

Daniel Hawthorne: "She was definitely up there, and I grew up around the Estate."

Eyrgjafa Freyjasdottir: "Actually polite or just politely bitchy, Floretta? All too many of the Inwictoos are the latter." Eyrgjafa shrugs. "Then again, that's a flaw my own clan tends to fall into, as well."

Guy Dagenham: He grins slightly, then straightens back up. “Clan stereotypes. Always interesting...”

Floretta Williams: "Sir Knights Phillips was a nice little mixture of both, but I got a negative impression of him with how he was treating Henry." Floretta explains. "I was kind enough to him not to require a proper public title adress."

Daniel Hawthorne: "They can be..." Daniel looked to Guy briefly, allowing himself a small smirk. "Then again, moving past those stereotypes makes one's evenings more interesting, as I see it."

Eyrgjafa Freyjasdottir: Eyrgjafa grins. "Just being a Dragon makes me a fairly unusual Serpent, I will admit. Even if I am the Convenor."

Guy Dagenham: “I...am fairly stereotypical. Doesn’t really bother me.” He gets up and starts looking at books, though he seems to be more pacing than searching for reading material.

Floretta Williams: "I'm aware of what kind of stereotypes my clan is meant to make me, but I don't think I'm fitting it much." She looks down at her hand and her arms there. "Then again, not one to fit expectation in general."

Eyrgjafa Freyjasdottir: "Stereotypes only have value in so far as you don't get them confused for intrinsic traits." Eyrgjafa shrugs. "Something everyone forgets, from time to time."

Guy Dagenham: “There are...places, if you will, where the lines blur, I think. Certain Disciplines encourage a state of mind to develop, refine...but largely, you are more than what the blood makes you, it’s true...”

Floretta Williams: "Yeah turning into a dog or like spiders is kind of a really specific mindspace." She points to her head and let Herbert down when he wants, he stretches and sniff the floor.

Daniel Hawthorne: "Indeed." Daniel nodded quietly to Eyr. "And I can imagine. Using what I had been taught by my regnant compared to the gifts more in line with my blood now do feel somewhat different, I've come to notice."

Eyrgjafa Freyjasdottir: "Really? I've not had the chance to talk to many former ghouls who were embraced into a clan other than their regnant's." Eyrgjafa seems genuinely curious as she leans in.

Guy Dagenham: He turns back to the others. “That does sound interesting. How long were you a ghoul, if that’s not too rude? Even in rough terms.”

Floretta Williams: She smiles there and cross her arms, watching her dog sprawl on the floor. Her interest seems to match, at least in part, Eyrgjafa's and Guy.

Daniel Hawthorne: Well, he invited this onto himself, now didn't he...

Daniel smirked a touch, sitting back in his seat. "Close to five years."

Eyrgjafa Freyjasdottir: "Only barely shorter than you've been in Philadelphia, then." Eyrgjafa seems somewhat surprised. "Do you mind if I ask why you decided to come here, over any other city?"

Guy Dagenham: He’s quiet as he paces over, sitting back in his chair to listen.

Floretta Williams: She looks to Guy as he sit back down, she tentatively guide Herbert toward him, but seems ready to pull the pup back, just in case his presence isn't welcomed. She does direct a question to Daniel too. "Did you retain anything from it ? or did you have to relearn everything from scratch? Also, please feel free to not answer anything if you don't feel like it"

Daniel Hawthorne: "I had some contacts here through my design work, for one. That and it was far enough to get out from under the cloud of my Embrace that didn't involve going clear across the country. I am glad I came here, though; I know that cloud would have followed me regardless if I had stayed with the Estate."

"I will." He nodded to Floretta before continuing. "I did retain it, although there was a bit of adjustment from pulling on my own vitae rather than what I had been given."

Eyrgjafa Freyjasdottir: "Well, I'm glad you decided to join us, rather than stay with the Inwictoos." She makes a point of using the Roman Latin pronunciation.

Guy Dagenham: He leans to offer his hand for the dog to sniff. “I’m sure you’ve had an interesting journey in life. And it’s always good to have more Dragons.”

Floretta Williams: "He likes you!" Herbert sniffs and licks Guy's offered hand and resume his curiousity about the area. Floretta looks to Daniel. "Well, that's an interesting piece of information to have. Not that I'm planning on embracing anyone ever, but it might gives some answer to some things in the future."

Daniel Hawthorne: "As am I." He smiled at that, a proper one this time. "It has been interesting, even thought it was in ways I wasn't expecting, but I look forward to seeing where it goes from here."

Eyrgjafa Freyjasdottir: "Well, I hope it goes well for you." Eyrgjafa says, rising. "I should be going, though. Errands to run."

Guy Dagenham: He pulls out his phone, face brightening up as he texts. “I think I’m gonna go too, Petra wants to go out.”

Floretta Williams: "Tell her I said hi!" She says to Guy, then looks to Eyrgjafa, waving to her. "Good luck on the Errand, I'll be here looking over whatever we need to move to our new location and what we can leave behind."

Daniel Hawthorne: "Good talking with you both." Daniel nodded to Eyr and Guy as they rose from their seats, keeping his own for the moment. "Have a good night."

Guy Dagenham: He nods to everyone. “Petra says hello, and I’m saying goodnight.”

Floretta Williams: "Still sticking around?" She asks toward Daniel as she stretches out a little bit (rest well!)

Daniel Hawthorne: "For a bit, yeah. Don't feel like heading home quite yet. You?"

Floretta Williams: "I'm good to go for a bit, I mean, I was litterally here to do some work on our archive and documentation." she points vaguely in that direction.

Daniel Hawthorne: "Fair enough. Came to do some reading on the Ascendant myself...wanting to go back into the Chrysalis soon."

Floretta Williams: "Oh? What do you already know." Her interest perks up almost immediately, her eyes lighting up. "I can maybe help you along this path."

Daniel Hawthorne: Seeing her perk up caught the young Haunt's attention, sitting up in his seat as well. "I've reached the third tier thus far. You?"

Floretta Williams: "Same." She explains and nods. "I might be able to assist you but not actually teach you on moving further. I'm currently trying to look into other mysteries, help me with other stuff."

Daniel Hawthorne: "Won't say no to the help." He nodded quietly. "What else are you looking into, if you don't mind my asking?"

Floretta Williams: "Not entirely sure yet, I'm curious about the blood and wyrms, but I might eye another possibility if the occasion present itself." A shrug. "I'm focused on other stuff though at the moment."

Daniel Hawthorne: Daniel watched her a moment before nodding. "I'll likely look towards the blood next myself, but I want to finish the Ascendant first."

Floretta Williams: "Ambitious! You'll probably need a whole damn lot of fire and candles. If you need someone to handle them, I don't frenzy from 'em."
