Yllka Qosja/Introduction

Yllka and her family fled Kosovo as refugees in 1999 due to the conflict there, but only Yllka and her father, Tarik, survived the trip and started a new life in Vienna; Yllka's mother and brother were killed when a NATO air strike mistook their refugee convoy for a military one. Yllka was four, and the events of that day are the earliest memories that she can bring up with any clarity.

For a long time, though, life in Vienna was pretty good. Tarik was a loving father who worked hard. He loved to boast that his daughter was the smartest girl in Vienna, and that he would work as hard as he had to so he could afford to send her to the university. He would make sure that she'd have every chance fate had tried to deny her... and him.

Then Tarik was murdered and Yllka was taken as payment for debts unsettled. She's rarely ever interested in talking about the details of the time between that day and her death, instead letting her actions now that she's returned to life speak for her.
