Freehold Hollow

Log

This scene took place on 9/9/22
Aurelio Menegi: Even with a change in court Aurelio wasn't opposed to doing his part to keep the freehold's armory in tip-top shape, and on this particular autumnal afternoon the Torrent was doing just that. One of the cabins that ringed the central part of the freehold had its door open for others to enter as they wished, with the table covered with a fresh cloth and a number of blades and other implements of war laid across it, along with the gear needed to properly treat them. A faint humming floated through the air as he worked, his focus on the blade in hand but keeping an ear out for any approaching Lost.

Vorpal: A sense of the Wyrd came first, and then Autumn- and with them, a subtle shift in the weapons themselves. Less an intrinsic change, and more a reactive performance to the Wyrd approaching. Sharp seemed sharper, sturdy seemed sturdier, and as Jackie came to the cottage's threshold, it became clear why.

Today, she was wearing Metal.

Not armor, not metallic clothing, but the Element, as her own. The Torrent stood as a gleaming pillar of steel, bladed fingers folded before her, the softer curves of humanity erased for the moment by hard edges and sharp corners. Still, she smiled faintly as she noted Aurelio and his work.

"A bit of handiwork to maintain the armory, is it?"

Aurelio Menegi: The force of the Wyrd and the shift of the blade in his hand caught Aurelio's attention, his gaze turned towards the door by the time Jackie properly emerged. "Si," he replied, giving her a respectful nod. "It is well kept, but I like to do my part."

Vorpal: "I am quite positive that Sigrun appreciates the elbow grease, as it were," Vorpal stated confidently as she found someplace to sit- the floor, if need be- and folded herself down into place. "You know- last we spoke, I did not think to inquire. Is Spanish your native tongue?"

Aurelio Menegi: There was indeed a chair that Jackie could claim if she felt so inclined, the question asked earning a small smirk. "No, Italian. Some words are similar, though, so close guess."

Vorpal: "Darn." She sighed. "I learned Spanish to speak to Teagan in his mother tongue. Hoped maybe it'd help me do the same with you. Alas. Perhaps I can pick it up as well someday soon." In the chair, she shifted her weight, tilting her head faintly. "I have been busy afield for some time- have I missed anything exciting?"

Aurelio Menegi: "Would be willing to teach it, if you wish. Don't get to use it as often here, but for some of the old guard in the neighborhood." He finished up the work on the blade he had in hand, giving it another once-over before setting it to the side. "Some odd dreams, at least on my part, which by your note you are looking into, yes?"

Vorpal: "I shall keep that in mind. I'll have to assess if I've room enough for another language, first. As for dreams! Yes, I am! Would you mind if I inquired which dreams you've been having? I've seen some demonstrable overlap!"

Aurelio Menegi: "From what I remember, an opened book with symbols I do not know, followed by a bird-like mask that falls to the floor and shatters."

Vorpal: Jackie goes still a moment, blinking. "Interesting. I have... only heard of some of this. And the mask, I've heard from another- but it wasn't described. You saw it clearly? And the other was a book with unrecognizable symbols?"

Aurelio Menegi: "Si. Like a bird, with dark purple ribbons tied to it." He nodded, making a motion of his hand to mimic the beak in front of his own face. "And the book opened to the page with the symbols, but I did not know them."

Vorpal: "Hrm. That's- intriguing," Vorpal murmured, setting the thoughts to memory. "I will consult the Book of Leaves later. If I learn anything, you will be informed."

Aurelio Menegi: "Welcome, and appreciated. I am no strega so such symbols in dream are unknown to me, but I am glad to help where I can."

Vorpal: "Strega? Does that mean witch, perhaps?" Vorpal guessed. "Or perhaps fortune teller? And the help is appreciated, of course. I am piecing together ideas of what this all pertains to. I think. I am not sure if it is accurate yet."

Aurelio Menegi: "More the former, yes. What do you think so far?"

Vorpal: "Well, I suspect strongly that the coin telated to some wizard friends of mine. Doubly so due to the tree, though HOW eludes me. The mask I havent sussed out yet. And the book... not sure."

Aurelio Menegi: "Hmm." He sat back in his seat, pondering for a moment. "Odd that it has been both varied and that some see the same thing. Many pieces to the puzzle, no?"

Vorpal: "Aye. Which makes me think it's something of an echo. Something major creating ripples in the Dreaming. Enough to reach beyond our numbers, even."

Aurelio Menegi: "That is telling..." He nodded quietly. "Haven't had too many dealings with those outside the freehold, but those I have met have been sound. More than willing to offer what aid is needed to get to the bottom of this."
