Camp Constantine

Log

Constantine: Jeremiah received an invitation -- "invitation" -- to Camp Constantine to meet with... well.

Constantine.

The Arrow Factotum has set up a charcuterie board on the dining table, and a jug of ice water. Simple, healthy fare - exactly what one expects from a Perfected Adept, really. Xe sits in one of the chairs, flipping through the contents of a manila folder, occasionally pausing to make a note on one page or another with a heavy, high-quality pen.

Jeremiah Hamilton: Jeremiah arrived at the camp promptly after the 'invitation' was sent out, giving the Arrow a respectful nod as he made his way into the meeting space.

Constantine: "I apologize for bringing you on to this," begins Constantine, without so much as a 'hello.' That, of course, fits xis reputation perfectly -- blunt, straightforward, direct to work. "I wasn't aware at the time that you had a social link to one of the individuals, though I should have guessed as much, given her new-made association."

Xe opens the folder. "I don't think you've had the opportunity to read Master Kaminari's report to us," and xe pushes the folder across, "so let's start there, and with anything else you're aware of."

I have nothing to hide so this is my testimony and, if necessary, I am willing to submit my memories as evidence if you believe that to be required. My relationship with Master Bones started last month. Things went well with them and we ended up going on a date which went even better. We ended the night going back to my home, the same home that Bones and Klaire decided to spy on me from. My . . . type of intimacy is different than that of many others. Needless to say I feel a deep connection with the element of lightning which stems down to me wishing to create a legacy surrounding the mythical creature known as a Raiju which is a lightning beast. I assumed a form that I only take on in private and made sure the Bones knew that the place was safe from any prying eyes of mortals and that they could use magic within its confines at the time. They did at the time and even assumed a similar form to my own. Everything was going well from there until one night were we had a discussion about an issue that Bones was having with their Fate and a lot was said that night. Different theories were being thrown all over the place about why this was happening and what to do about it. Bones and her Cadremate Thespis left that night.

I believe about a week or so later I met Master Bones and Edward who was a lost while I was jogging in the woods. We started to get into a discussion about what had happened last time and our feelings on the matter. I told them that there was no point dwelling on the matter because it was in the past at that point and they weren't really feeling that specific headspace. I didn't want to continue to speak about a private matter in front of another person and leave them feeling left out because that's impolite. So I informed them the last thing I was going to say about the matter was that they seemed like a people please which was fine but that they were ignoring a very important person health who they should place above others, and that was their own.

Bones attempted to continue the conversation and I simply offered a shrug at their response. Perhaps not the correct response but I do my best to uphold my word. I started speaking to Edward about anime Bones then said "Ba" turned invisible in front of the both of us and rushed away. This is my mistake and I own up to it. I used Time to go back a few moments and try to reconcile that interaction to prevent them from feeling like they had to use magic to leave in the first place. When the time returned I tried to speak with Bones about what was really on their mind and that if they wanted to have a discussion we could do that, my only issue was Edward feeling left out. Bones informed that they were upset by the change in their time which I understand. At the time I merely wished to try and avoid a situation where they felt they needed to use magic to escape. Which caused a bit of friction between the two of us. Bones ended up going invisible again anyways and I continued the conversation I had with Edward the exact same way I had prior.
That is my fault. I acted hastily in an attempt to try and salvage a situation with someone important to me and ended up hurting them. I gave it sometime and reached out a little later and apologized and learned a little more about them and we discussed that I felt like them just running away like that was pushing me away and they told me about their issue with time. I then understood why they felt the way they did and tried to assure them that what I did was just make it so we had a second to talk before they left but I don't think Bones believed me. We hadn't seen each other since then, partially because I wanted to try and let the bridge mend a little bit while the other part was because it felt like the right choice to give us time.

I was contacted by Klaire about my investigation and I wanted to meet in person because it felt safer and I offered up my home as a location because I don't personally like offices. I've been a solider most of my life and I don't like having my back against a wall and this way we'd have exits worse case scenario with less sleeper eyes on us. It felt like the tactically correct choice. I believe Klaire arrived magically because I saw her leave that way, which in my opinion was reckless. She is lucky my apartment area is a bit secluded, it's also why I chose it as my sanctum. She came in and I asked if there was anything that I could get her and she asked for water so I brought her an unopened bottle of Fuji water that I keep in my fridge for guests. We spoke for a time and I informed her that I had submitted everything in my initial report before questioning if she was implying that I was withholding details. I informed her about the only detail that I really left out because it wasn't important or constructive and that was that I grabbed a ride with the bartender to get to a random location before returning to my motorcycle. I told her I had looked around the bar for the same MO as the entity had give off last time which was flickering lights, something that has already been confirmed between other testimonies.

It was at that point that she started to complain that she had travel 20 miles away from a bar. I remained calm with her and informed her that my home felt more secure and since distance has never seemed like an issue to us before and that I was an Adept of Time so that felt redundant. I informed her that I could understand why she might be a little annoyed that it was no reason to lash out at me. I told her I wished to remain apart of the investigations because of the nature of them, as an arrow I have spent a good amount of time in my life honing myself for use without the need of magic during combat which against an abyssal entity . . . I don't believe I need to explain the reason why that's good. She continued to complain about distance I tried to inform her about my dislikes of offices and why. I offered to help get her back if she needed it or heal her if she needed it. Continuing to provide hospitality to someone who was beginning to feel like they were only there to insult and attempt to goad me. She then suggested that "I should learn Space so there are as many exits as I could want" and then said that I wasted her time and implied that I do not care about saving lives.

At this point I had; had enough. I have spent over ten years as an Arrow and a member of this consilium. I have learned Life to help heal and save lives and being insulted to that degree no longer settled well with me. She then asked if she should just contact me when they were ready to go to the bar, I stood up and walked to the door and calmly told her to contact me when they were ready. Then I saw her vanish once more, and in front of my home which again, thankfully there were no sleepers around to witness. I have already provided you with the text messages between Bones and myself. Knowing that I was being spied upon in my own home by both of them was extremely violating. While the trust between Bones and myself may have been a little rocky at the time I did not dare believe it to be to the extent that my home would be violated by their gaze as they conspired with their deputy to be present without my knowledge.

Perhaps my sanctum is not on any official map but I do NOT believe Bones to be so foolish as to not have at least a modicum of an inkling that it was a Sanctum for we did share a single Magical night together and that would not be possible outside of such a location. So I believe, fully, that even if it was not on a map Bones knew. Which if the only thing that hinges this case on is their knowledge of it being a sanctuary, it's right there. Unless Bones claims complete ignorance which I simply can not believe.

This concludes my report, I will gladly submit my memories for evidence if requested by the Council.

As a final notice, I still wish to work with everyone if possible. I realize this issue will cause further friction but this is something we as a Consilium MUST overcome. We can be strong so long as we remain united on all fronts. Yes issues will arise to test us and try to break us, but we owe it to this world to rise above those challenges. Thank you.

Jeremiah Hamilton: "Thanks. Things happen like that sometimes." He replied, claiming a seat at the table and looking over the contents of the folder. His eyebrows climbed upwards now and again as he reached some choice sections of the report, sitting back in his seat as he finished. "Well then."

"The only contact I had with Psyche about the matter after her meeting with Master Kaminari was a brief text exchange where she vented about being called out to a meeting when all of the pertinent information was apparently already submitted, and I can provide those if you need them. Since the investigation was announced I haven't spoken to Master Bones directly and only spoke with Psyche once in the Consilium Hall with Master Thespis present on matters not pertaining to the investigation."

Constantine: Xe simply nods in response, where others might put filler language in. Likewise, when Jeremiah continues, xe doesn't begin with stock phrases like 'to be honest' or anything of the like. Xis gaze stays level and focused on the Ladder. "I do not believe that your private correspondence is relevant to the matter at hand, and I feel that the matter itself is largely cut and dry."

"For the rest of this conversation, please do me the favor, in the name of conversational efficacy, of assuming anything I say comes with the prefix phrase 'in my opinion' or 'I think.'" A beat, and Constantine continues, "It is not in the best interests of the Consilium to weigh in on the matter of Emeritus in this particular matter. Was Sentinel Kaminari disrespected in her home? Clearly. Were Deputy Sentinel Psyche and then-Sentinel Bones disrespected if there truly was no new information given? That could be successfully argued. Then we would have to delve into who, precisely, is deserving of Emeritus here."

"Therefore, it is in the best interests of the Consilium to declare the matter essentially a wash, and remand the issue of Emeritus to the Duel Arcane, should the affected parties feel the issue unsettled. Deputy Sentinel Psyche has the right to choose a proxy to stand in for her if she feels her position within the Consilium is disrespected."

"Do you concur with this opinion, Factotum Sirius? If not, what course of action do you suggest?"

Jeremiah Hamilton: "I'm inclined to agree. It's the smoothest way to handle the issue."

Constantine: Xe makes a note on xis legal pad with that heavy pen. "Very good." Xe taps xis pen on the table. "That simply leaves us with the matter of disrespect of the Sanctum." A pause. "I would like to hear your thoughts on the matter, as far as what you feel the applicable points of the Lex are in this situation." Clearly xe has an opinion.

Jeremiah Hamilton: "What was the extent of the spying, if that's known?"

Constantine: "That is the point on which I seem to have conflicting information. Now... firstly, Psyche has confessed and essentially thrown herself on this hand grenade. However, that confession is irrelevant if Bones participated, so while I take it as read that she is attempting to take the consequences, it is not relevant if Bones participated actively."

Xe makes another small note. "The question hangs upon whether Bones merely reviewed her memories after the fact, or whether Psyche and Bones had some sort of active psychic or Mind link which allowed Bones to observe in real time."

Jeremiah Hamilton: "Indeed. I know that Psyche has requested to have her past actions reviewed by others before to see if she had misconstrued something that turned out to be of importance after the fact, so it may have been that sort of thing here. If Master Bones hasn't been asked on that front yet I am willing to do so."

Constantine: "Good. I look forward to reviewing your separate questioning of both of them. Let us establish the facts as they happened, and then we may determine the best path forward under the Lex." Another note. "Let us consider the precedent we wish to set. Do we wish to establish "your home is considered by default a Sanctum?" What about "you don't have to declare a Sanctum and can argue 'you should have known'?" Both are potential outcomes, and the former requires a sort of declaration in any case."

Jeremiah Hamilton: Jeremiah sat back in his seat, thinking that over for a moment. "The 'you should have known' portion sticks out to me, personally. There was a lack of communication between the two of them on that front, and an assumption that Bones would have known without it being declared as such is putting the onus on them."

Constantine: "A lot will depend on whether Bones of Magic was observing live, and what precedents would be set." Constantine leans back. "The agreement between the Councilors was that I'd officially lead the investigation due to your known link to Psyche and Sentinel Kaminari's request that an Arrow be involved. However, I have no intention of running the investigation per se. I look forward to the results of your interviews with Master Bones and Deputy Sentinel Psyche. We'll move forward carefully, and together."

Xis tone seems to draw the meeting towards its conclusion, which is further borne out as xe asks, "any further concerns at present?"

Jeremiah Hamilton: "Not at the moment. I'll arrange meetings with them soon and report back to you as soon as possible."
